1 in Greenwood (Leflore Co.) 3 in Hattiesburg (Forrest Co.) 2 unknown cases (Still contacting families)

Southern Miss has a huge ESL program and a ton of international students. I would be more surprised if Hattiesburg didn’t have confirmed cases.

Was told by someone who works at the hospital in Bay St Louis that they had a case there. This person is also a sociopath.

I'm afraid the number is going to rise quickly.

I'm updating it in the thread I started this morning just to get a feel for how quickly it grows.

Was watching the MSDH briefing yesterday with a coworker on the WLOX Facebook feed. There were a couple of people that claimed to be in the medical field (take that for what it’s worth) that posted in the comment section that there are 2 in Ocean Springs, 1 in Biloxi, and 1 in Lucedale.

You do realize the number of unconfirmed cases have to be an order of magnitude higher than confirmed cases, right? Incubation and all those without severe symptoms.

I hope people take this seriously

And soon.

Simple math suggests the number of cases will be much larger in the coming days.

Thank those in the medical profession. They are going to be the true heroes here.

Yall need to accept that the numbers ......

are going to appear to explode. We haven't been testing, now we are. We will have a true picture of it in the US in two weeks or so as testing ramps up. Just remember that according to the only real controlled study, the Diamond Princess, 50% of those that tested positive never showed symptoms. Also there were 3-4K people on that boat, it was something like 700 that actually got it, on a CRUISE SHIP.

My wife, who works at St.D, just got a call that there is a case at the hospital. That is obviously picking up steam.

Isn't it possible that if there are 6 confirmed cases, there may be thousands of unconfirmed carriers? Testing is slowww and seems like a low priority.

My cousin treated one of the first confirmed cases in Georgia (put the guy on a ventilator). He (my cousin) was tested, and has been waiting 5 days for results. In Atlanta, home of the CDC. They're still letting him treat patients in the er with a mask until he is confirmed, then he will be on a 9 day quarantine (if positive) and until he passes 2 tests that confirm he doesn't have it.

I agree with your points of view. I do have a question though.

Has it been verified that you need to show symptoms in order to spread the virus. An asymptomatic host sounds dangerous.

I keep seeing that a large number of people that tested positive show no symptoms. Just curious if they spread the virus even if they are absent symptoms.

I was wondering that too....with the flu, if you haven’t run fever in 24 hours, you aren’t contagious....

Experts are still figuring ouy how it spreads, and it seems to spread easily, which is why there's so much caution. Here's the basic CDC statement and a New England Journal of Medicine Correspondence if you want to get into the weeds on a specific observation...

Funny enough that the first case was a local MD who was exposed on a weekend romp with his boyfriend to Miami. NOT THAT THERe is anything wrong with that....

And on the ship, the fatality rate of infected people was 0.91%. Thats of the infected people, not total population of the ship.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, I’m having trouble finding actual numbers.
