What will the world be like for the next few weeks?

Basically every event, any type of social gathering has been cancelled. Sports, concerts, local events. No live entertainment on TV or that you can go see in person. I won't be surprised if we begin to see restaurants or shops close - particularly if they have an employee with the virus.

The closest thing I can think of this being like is the ice storm of 94 or Katrina for me --- when my world was completely changed for a few weeks. But this isn't just a regional event like those were. It's the whole freaking world. Every single person on this planet is going to be impacted in some way.

For an introvert like me, spending more time at home isn't a big deal. I can play video games, do yard work, exercise (I'm a runner). But some people are going to go crazy with nothing to do.

I think ****'s about to get really weird.

I’m sitting in a restaurant that is 80% full. The roads around town are as clogged as ever. Received message earlier today that religious services will be convened as per normal. Nothing seems different at the local level so far.

I wasn’t in NYC in the days after 9-11. But, seems like a good comparison.

Think about how much worse this would have been just 10 or 20 years ago. The communication advances in the last decade or so are a godsend right now.

The only thing I've noticed that has changed around here is the grocery store maddness and how long people wash their hands at work.

ETA: also everyone is talking about it nonstop.

Didn’t have to be in NY to feel the effects. Back then I had to drive by the Memphis Airport everyday. There was zero traffic, all the planes were parked on the runway, and any place I went for lunch was not crowded and was eerily quiet.

I’m pretty sure the advancement in communication is why things are the way they are. The doctors and administrators would still get the same info and be able to shut down nursing homes and stuff but every jo blow wouldn’t be sitting home with 18 channels over communicating the gloom and doom that sadly draws ratings. I’m not at all saying it shouldn’t be covered, but you don’t hafta talk about it every minute of of every hour of every show. This does really remind me of the week that followed 9/11.

I 100% disagree with this. If this happened 20 years ago Before most forms of social media there would be less fear mongering and this dumb **** wouldn’t have gotten this out of hand.

I'm in Fort Walton on the Florida panhandle, things are fairly normal here except for schools closing. Weird thing is walking into Publix there's plenty of bread, water, rice, beans, produce, beef, chicken, pork, fish & shrimp but then small sections of shelves are completely bare...Airborne tablets and Vitamin C tablets are completely gone...and Toilet paper is pretty low too - I guess folks take the term "SHTF **** Hit The Fan" literally and think they have to buy all the Toilet paper to clean up the ****?

Got it backwards. The uncalled for freak outs, people on here included, would not be happening
