No coach should berate players like that.
I have worked around some of the biggest a__holes around and his Management style is the worst I have seen lately. I don’t care how good a coach he is, it looks bad and sets a bad example for youngsters.

Yeah that doesn’t happen in high school football anymore. I know it used too and most that heard it weren’t scarred.

Could you imagine our fanbase if we had one tournament appearance by a coaches 8th year. They might loose it.

When I was in elementary school, our basketball coach put a kid in a trash can at halftime, and said that was because he was playing like 17ing garbage. He then told the rest of the team to laugh at the “17ing retard”. This was a 5th-6th grade team.

Our HS football coach made one of our WRs put on a pink tutu and run around the field while we practiced because if “he is going to play like a 17ing pansy *** girl, then everyone is going to see he is a m-17ing girl.”

You’re right - Getting cursed out or being embarrassed by a coach was a common occurrence 25-30 years ago. I’m not saying it should happen, but no one thought twice about getting cussed out. Times have changed.

He was in a huddle and a camera zoomed in. ********. He coaches that way. Some coaches do some don’t but to vilify him for coaching his players the way he always does is ridiculous.

But the ones coming out of high school football now are scarred and don’t even know it.

And it goes on today! Think they are listening to Christian music in their I ear buds. It’s ridiculous to think an irate coach who cusses vs a coach that rants without cussing is worse. Hell they have heard the rants and to be honest getting your butt crawled cussing or not is part of growing up.
Work ethic and listening should be demanded And most that show this now a days have had demands placed on them in the same way. Even if the 17 bomb wasn’t said

It’s sports. These guys have been raised on intensity. The ones that aren’t are bitched about on message boards. Seriously my son graduated last year and we both laugh at the stories and cussing from high school. Guess what, he’s motivated and a strong young man. Quit complaining about a man trying to get a young man to grow up. If the player hates it he leaves but so many young men want and expect this intensity

Y’all may have missed this but they did a random poll among SEC players and asked “If you could play for any coach in the SEC besides yours, who would it be?”

Know who had the most votes?

Frank Martin

Kids love the guy. Most of you would be appalled if they allowed cameras in locker rooms at half time or after games. It’s a word...... that’s it, a word.

One of my high school games - the team we played didn't have a visitor's locker room. So our halftime speech was in the endzone. My uncle who was visiting went to my game. He told me that Saturday he was shocked at the language our coach used at a Catholic high school. I honestly didn't think it was that bad.

You mean to tell me a coach cursed at his players? Next you’re going to tell me he makes them run laps. Oh the horror!**

The guy he cussed completely lost his man and let him catch it half court without the clock starting with 4 seconds left when SC was up 2. He deserved to be called whatever Martin called him. It didn't, but it could have easily cost them the game....and Martin's 2nd tourney in 8 years...

I don’t care. If Frank Martin talked to me that way, I would tell him to 17 off and walk off the floor.
he can coach, holler, cuss, and rage all he wants, but if he called me the names he called his player last night, 17 him.

Yeah. That coaching style is counterproductive. If he could control himself, he might have more than 1 NCAA appearance at USC.

Well in his defense he’s always been that way so the kids that sign up to play for him know what they are getting. They aren’t going there because of the storied history of the program.

Sure it’s probably a bit over the top but the players don’t seem to mind it too much

Damn! Some of y'all act like Coach K don't use this type coaching. His mentor was BOBBY KNIGHT for crying out 17's sake! The difference is, he was a West Point grad and knows how to do it behind the scenes.

Did a poll and a series of psyche exams, did you?

I mean... nothing bad psychologically or mentally ever happened to anybody that ever played football, right?

That sounds 17ing horrifying actually. If anybody thinks that it's ok for a grown man to do that to a 10-11 year old, then you're a 17ing psychopath.

It's one thing to cuss. It's another to call a kid a "17ing idiot", "a stupid Mother17er", or a "17ing retard"...

Anybody ever hear of a guy called Bob Knight?

Sounds familiar... choked a kid, wiped **** off his *** in front of his team, said women should enjoy rape... I’m not sure why more coaches aren’t emulating him***

It’s like every single TO, no matter what, he picks out one player to yell at and berate. It’s unnecessary to embarrass but I’m completely on board with calling out poor play.

I don't know how old you are , but I can tell you for sure that 40 to 50 years ago, if that had happened to an elementary school kid, someone's WWII veteran Dad would have whipped his ***, and that would have been the end of it. Unless the coach was fired. No coach would ever have done this because they would know what was coming. It's amazing to me how much we as a society have been conditioned to "take". May be a result of the dropping testosterone levels.

I am specifically referring to the post by Raiderdawg.

He was doing things like this 35-40 years ago. The trash can happen 33 years ago. No parents ever did anything because no kids ever complained about him. Coaches were gods in my small little East TN town. Especially, winning coaches. He won when he coached elementary, middle and High school.

Like others said, to us at the time, he was just like Bobby Knight.

I can honestly think of 2 coaches in my hometown worse than he was.
