I'd be very surprised to learn that dealerships are willing to do that. Very.

Supposedly you can get the dealership to turn that off. Haven't tried it yet.

Some models / cars have the ability for the driver to turn it off. However, it resets every time the car is restarted. So you have to push the button every single time you crank it up. EPA fuel economy and emissions regulations require the default setting in order for their calculations for both to be used only when the system is engaged. Otherwise there is no point.

I absolutely hate adaptive cruise control. My wife's car has it and I just use the regular cruise control. I hate it constantly slowing down and speeding up on the interstate. I usually stay in the upper 70's while driving and it's just annoying to me as a driver.

Honda has the ability to set the distance that it will brake from 1 to 4 car lengths. It wasn't intuitive to me that it worked that way at first. Maybe your wife's has that? Since I set mine at 2 car lengths, it is a very nice feature. 4 car lengths drove me nuts/gave me whiplash.

I think it has that but I had no idea what it did. I will give it a try next time.

Yeah, I've trained myself to just push the button every time I crank up. Annoying.

yup. Went through that with Toyota a number of years ago. Finally took them to arbitration, and one thing that helped me win was a video taken by my 10 year old son from the back seat showing the tach needle jumping all over the place. Their technician did reproduce the problem, but then they copped out by saying my engine needed a tuneup. The arbitrator didn't buy that.
