Tickets sold out. How did upig rebuild excitement this quickly. They are no better than the Dogs but we are nowhere near this level of fan participation

State just doesn’t have a first class basketball following. Students kind of suck at it and the alumni kind of suck at it

Arkansas has much more of a basketball following than State. It’s not even close.

It also helps that Hogs have about a half million people within an hour drive if the coliseum, no other university to compete with, and northwest Arkansas is a very prosperous compared to rest of state and neighboring areas so A high percentage can afford to go to games.

Arkansas fans are starved for a winning product since football has been so bad and basketball has been very average and frustrating for them over the last 5 or so years. Musselman has a ton of energy. He’s overachieving with a limited roster. They play extremely hard the entire game. They play an exciting brand of ball. People wanna cheer for something up here and Musselman has embraced the fans, student section and everyone loves him up here. Having 500-600k people within 30 minutes from campus doesn’t hurt.

this is the answer. And further more.... it's cool to be a Razorback in NWA. It is cool to be Bama football, nascar, MSU and Braves baseball fan in the GTR.

You don't have to look an hour out. The population of Fayetteville itself is about 3 and half times the population of Starkville.

I’ve long thought this reason contributed to our “glory” years too

Arkansas fans are starved for a winning product since football has been so bad.

Our football was so putrid from 2001-09, which is when MSU basketball excitement was at an all time high.

☝🏻He’s right you know. Columbus probably has more Bama fans than State fans, and Sidewalk Bama fans are football only fans. I would be okay if the Alabama/Mississippi state lines were moved west of Columbus and west of Meridian. They are Bama towns anyway. Let them have em.

The fact that that Hump is filled for women's games make the surrounding population argument void. Our fans simply find any excuse possible to not attend MSU men's basketball games.

I disagree. 10,000 fans would make up probably 20% of the surrounding area population in Starkville requiring a lot of the same people to come to every game for the hump to be full. The is enough population in NWA that most people go only to a game or a few games each year but there's enough rotating through each game to have good crowds.

This quote is the truth. We can’t even get 10,000 state fans to the hump for a Saturday afternoon game. That’s not asking much. That’s nothing but lack interest to attend the men’s games. The reason of lack of interest is really hard to figure out. The program is much improved from the Rick Ray days at this point. We have a future NBA player or 2 on our roster. We have a chance at finishing top 4 in the SEC. I just don’t get it.

I'm agree that the population in NWA makes it easier for Arkansas to fill Bud Walton. I am just saying that it is very possible to fill the Hump, but people in the area simply choose not to to go the Men's games for whatever reason. The women's games are routinely filled. Hell there were 9500 people that attended the Ole Miss game a few weeks ago. A game State won by 60

I’m with you. We can put 15,000 at DNF pretty regularly, but struggle to get 50% of that at the Hump. More to the story than just population density.

Students need to step it up, it was a poor showing from them yesterday at the womens games. Thank the "blue hairs", again! LOL Back in my day, students would pack the place and there less than 11K students.

I disagree. A larger population would mean there are more chances that another 3-4 thousand people would take interest in men’s basketball and actually go to the game. It is just plain old math.

We all know why people would rather watch our women play than our men, but some on this board get pissed when you point it out.

the Hump was a rocking place --before our Ath. Dept. sold us out for money. They took the seats from the MSU loyal basketball fans-moved the students-fired the winningest Coach in MSU history and hired the third assistant from a suckified Clemson team thus driving Us into basketball Hell.

All time high was the 90's, (1994 - 1996 to be specific). Haven't made it past the round of 32 since then. Not sure when Midnight Madness stopped, but I would correlate that ending to the official end of real excitement about the program.

Arkansas was borderline top 10 in attendance even under Anderson. Muss has definitely brought some excitement back though since Anderson got a little stale and starting the season something like 12-1 this year didn't hurt either with a relatively soft OOC schedule. The Kentucky game this year was the most packed it's been in a while, close to 20,000 there and it was so loud after Calipari got ejected that the building shook and UK players had to cover their ears.

Frustrating that we haven't been able to get close to our 90's success since then but fans are definitely starved for it.
