some of the largest I've seen in a while. Filled up on 49N in H'Burg yesterday for $1.92 (noticed it was the same in Magee)......price at the same type station on I59 was $2.29. That's a hell of a difference within about 5 miles. Are there still such things as "gas wars" ?

Interstate Stations have always jacked prices up at least 20 cents or more. Convenience!

I heard something about coronavirus causing China’s demand to fall, which decreased prices for us all. No idea if that’s true...

I read that Toyota is having to idle plants because of supply chain issues from coronavirus.

Up this way, Germantown will be $2.59 and you can throw a rock and hit Cordova

And it’ll be $1.98. But then again Germantown thinks everything there is made of gold.

They are idling plants in China only through February 16th. Pretty much just Chinese market vehicles built there.. Don’t think that has an impact as much as everyone in China basically self-quarantining themselves and not going anywhere.

Exxon at Forest Hill and Winchester is always cheaper. They were $2.09 when everyone else was $2.25+

For those ever visiting Nashville, always remember to fill up your tanks before reaching the city. Matter of fact, you should fill up before crossing into TN, and then top off before entering the city.

The station with the cheaper gas in this case was closer to the Interstate. I think what we're seeing is gas prices are just flat being kept artificially high in some places by collusion amongst "competitors" . I.E. we being screwed aGAIN .

I mean I wouldn’t call it screwing us. Obviously there are options for cheaper gas. Use those options.

I can go get a meal for lunch today for $4, $8 or for $20 any lots in between. Sometimes the quality is no different. Am I being screwed if I choose the $20 option?

The best I've seen around here is $2.12 at off-brand stations. The Chevron I go to is $2.30 for regular, and another Chevron down the street is $2.40.

Alabama added a 10 cent gas tax supposedly earmarked for transportation infrastructure last fall. Still half of what they charge in California within sight of a refinery.

Depends on who owns distribution too.
Gas comes from a refinery owned by big gas companies often times to a terminal (Memphis/Greenville). That transportation in much (most?) of Mississippi is barged in on the River. From there, trucks haul it to a “Jobber” who stores it in tanks and hauls/sells to the gas station.
These days bigger companies control all aspects of the distribution. A lot of jobbers/transportation guys own the store too. So the more hands it passes through, the more markup. And you never really know because most of the “independent” guys don’t own the gas or pumps, they sell it for the transportation guy on consignment.
That alone can account for 20+ cents per gallon despite price wars.

$1.97 in the metropolis of Carrollton, MS! The stations off the interstate in Winona are $2.12. The stations off the interstate in Grenada are in the $2 range.

I thought most of the gas in MS came from the pipeline that goes though Meridian? I assumed this when they were having a gas shortage on the East Coast a few years ago when they had damage to the pipeline in Alabama.

Something is going on. My drivers usually get .10-.20 off diesel at Petro and Ta. This week I looked and some places were .85 off listed cash price.

Probably. I’m more familiar with N MS and Delta. I’d guess Pipeline gas might save a few pennies. Of course that pipeline was terribly expensive and they’re recouping money for that, but shipping via barge is expensive too.

Either way, someone is driving an 18 wheeler to a terminal and hauling it to their facility where it in turn gets stored then hauled to the store.

If that process uses 4 business to get to the end user, that’s 4 price markups. If it’s 2 businesses, that’s only 2 markups, albeit larger.

Walmart can sell cheaper than Main Street. Same thing.

Fisker is looking to get back in the game.

Supposed to have an SUV ready in 2022 with around a 300 mile range and base price of just over $37k. Also going to do a lease program with it that seems pretty reasonable. Then they supposedly have a sedan coming with a solid state battery that might be over 500 miles in range. Not gonna hold my breath for that one though.

The Lucid Air looks awesome as well, and Byton looks interesting. Who knows though. One of these days another start up electric car company is gonna get it right and offer actual competition to Tesla. Then, more and more of them are going to get it right, and it's going to disrupt a whole lot of markets and big companies.
