Just pulled up the twitter and Daniel Greek, 2021 qb from TX committed to us. Haven’t looked up his 247, but I remember seeing him being talked about last week as a legit dude.
Really wanted Ty Keys as I grew up close to Taylorsville, but Leach knows what’s best for his offense better than anyone not named Mike Leach.
ETA: he’s a lower rated 3* guy. Gotta think this may be a 2qb class with us likely having only 2-3 guys on the roster after this year. Rogers for sure, then who knows about Shrader/Mayden. KT won’t play qb again at MSU

I'm sure by next year he will be a 4 star and Keys isn't really the kind of QB Leach goes after. His dad is a coach which seems to be a plus. Seems like he prefers a pro style as opposed to dual threat. Which to me I would think a running QB could be very good if the D drops totally into pass coverage but what do I know ?

This is one thing that sucks to me because Ty Keyes would be good in damn near any offense. Leach is a genius but you’d think he would embrace the mobile QB with teams dropping back in pass coverage like you said. Make them cover an “extra man” with the QB mobility. If he can turn that bum Luke Faulk into a good passer than he can turn anyone into one.

If we take 2 with the 2nd being an instate guy I think Altmeyer is the guy right?

WAY too early for a backup plan. Leach isn’t recruiting based on his many stars a kid has. He’s recruiting based on his evaluation of the player.

I hate to tell you guys on Keyes. He probably doesn’t fit Leach’s system well. I’ll be surprised if he’s a Bulldog.

I think it's going to be first to commit. The only knock on Keyes is his size. He was an early bloomer and hasn't grown much in the past year. Altmeyer may still have some room to grow. I do think Keyes does more with less. He can sling it.

Wrong. Keyes is bigger than Altmeyer. He's a legit 6'2 200. He'll end up about 210. Very much built like Deshaun Watson. He's a better passer than Altmeyer and a better athlete.

Altmeyer is slightly bigger than Keyes. I agree Keyes is the better thrower.

Keyes can easily be a pocket passer y’all. People think he is dual threat for the same reason they thought Jamies Winston and Dwayne Haskins are.

Cutcliffe wanted Greek. The same guy who put Peyton Manning, Eli Manning and Daniel Jones in the NFL all as top 5 picks. I like us to get Mississippi kids when we can and if Keyes is our other QB, I'll take it. But the Robertson kid in Texas is a straight up assassin and was Taylor made for this offense. Going to be a tough choice.

Anyone could've coached the Mannings into top 5 picks. Jones is a huge feather in the cap for Cutcliffe though. Cutcliffe has had a ton of duds at duke too

If you’ve watched any film on Taylorsville you’d know he isn’t a dual threat guy. He averages less than 30 yards rushing a game playing 2A football.

Maybe. But we do know that Archie specifically chose Cutcliffe to coach his sons.

Keyes can set up in the pocket or he can move the pocket and scramble. He's accurate on the move too. He can take off if you need him to. He can throw from multiple arm slots and he's deadly accurate on deep balls. He's confident in his ability too. All he's got to do is work on his footwork. Everything else is natural for him. He's the best QB I've seen in MS in a long time.

Where you think he ranks on our board?

Anyone didnt. Cutcliffe did. He knows talent and how to evaluate it. Name anyone else that coached 3 top 5 picks. I'll hang up and listen

Behind Robertson but if he wants to commit, we take him. He's going to take some trips. I don't see him committing til the end and that could create a problem for him here.
And he likes State. Wish he'd go ahead and get in the boat. He could still take trips.

If Cutcliffe has been at Duke when Eli was coming out, it wouldn’t have been any different. He would have been hired at Mississippi & coached Eli there.

Ok, Cutcliffe spotted the Mannings out. Great eye for ol' David.... who would've thought those 5-star, great blood line guys would've been so great?

Quentin Harris, Daniel Jones, Thomas sirk, Anthony Boone, Sean renfroe, and Thaddeus Lewis is the list of qbs Cutcliffe has had at Duke... not exactly an impressive list. I realize duke is a tough place to get guys, but not one (even Jones) cracked 140 passer rating. Wake forest is equally as tough a job, and clawson has had 2 qbs go over 140 the last 3 years.

ETA... back to the question though, Sarkisian will have 4 top 10 picks in April: Carson Palmer, Leinart, Sanchez, and tua

Mannings played at Duke? Just like I don't credit cutcliffe much for the Mannings, I don't credit sark much for his. All of those guys were pretty much can't misses

USC and Bama get their pick of 4 and 5 star guys no matter who is coaching/recruiting. The eye for talent and development is when you are doing it at Texas Tech and Washington State. Leach has had a good air qb every year of his entire career with the possible exception of guys he didn't recruit his first year at WSU, and those guys still put up big numbers.

Now I never questioned leach. He's developed a ton of "nobodies"

At the time when Peyton was being recruited Cutcliffe helped develop Heath Shuler who was a first round pick and yes he was a draft bust. But at the time the SEC didn't produce QB's like they do now. Cutcliffe was one of if not the best in the SEC at the time. Just a different era when Manning's sons were being recruited.

Not arguing just giving context for the time.
