I’m a few songs in and it is pretty good

People in the south are not going to be fans of “Thoughts and Prayers”.

Politics ruined them for me...

American Band was great. Appreciate the heads up

Love the old stuff and while there was always hints of their views many of their songs were just about good ole livin'.

Once they felt the need to be CNN on their albums I have lost my interest in them.

English Oceans may be last album I can tolerate.

Agreed. This is the same reason I can’t totally get on board with Jason Isbell. I couldn’t care less which side of the aisle they sit on, but don’t preach to me or insult my beliefs. It’s just a sign that they don’t have anything more interesting to write about so they try to be “edgy” and “brave” which is the equivalent to that “artwork” of the crucifix in urine.

“When carnage was over you could hear the cell phones ringing. You could smell gun powder in the air”

That would be so haunting if you were a cop.

I'm OK with singers, actors, etc. expressing their political or religious views, but the minute they start to get preachy about it or bring it into their work, I'm out. Whichever side of the spectrum they're on.

I get that, and it’s certainly your choice. I love the early stuff with Isbell the most. But, I like most all of it.

I don’t agree with all of their political leanings, but I agree with some. But, I admire their courage to state it, knowing it isolates a lot of their audience. And I also enjoy hearing other political opinions, because I think it makes me smarter. But, we all have a line that we can’t cross, politically, so I completely understand where you’re coming from.

If I may, because I’m genuinely curious.. what isbell song or songs felt that way to you?

“White mans world“ for one. But I’ll freely admit I don’t care about their political beliefs. Love both bands

And I understand not agreeing with all of what they say. Everyone has their own political beliefs. At the same time there is a lot of truth in what they are saying

Yes, but he did it without virtue signaling or acting like he was better than everyone else.

Never saw him kneel for the National Anthem either. He never acted like any of these other ******** who think I need them to instruct me how to think and live.

Good ole livin’? We talking about the same band? Pretty much every one of their albums has been based around profound social undertones. Plight of the working class, old southern politics, etc. A lot of dark themes even in their more “upbeat” recordings. They never had a track about sitting on a tailgate out in the country sipping wine from a Dixie cup. If you want to disagree with their politics that’s totally fine. But its always been a pretty strong part of their identity. Didn’t just begin with the past couple of albums.

I’m really not sure how this song or any song of his was insulting to his audience.

Hatfield nailed it. There’s a few others that I didn’t care for and have thus forgotten. That album in particular was full of them from what I recall. Don’t preach to me about this world supposedly being geared towards white men as you prance about town in your luxury vehicles going to your high-end restaurants before you go to your secluded farm.

Those takes on living in the south are what drew me originally to DBT, but when they start putting out hot takes that are insulting or as stereotypical as stuff that would be considered racist if it were directed towards minorities, they obviously don’t want my money.

DBT played Saturn on election night in Nov. of 18. Cool thing was you got in free if you proved you had voted that day....The show was good and I only had to yell “Shut the 17 up and play music” twice.

Overall, they kept it in check.

This is my point. But, I also realize that no ones minds are going to be changed in this, I was just genuinely curious.

I can honestly say that before hearing “white man’s world” that I probably would’ve disagreed with it. But, I think there’s some truth in it. But, that’s not why I like him. I like him because I think he’s the most talented song writer in the country, right now.

I guess most of yall think Ted Nugent should shut his dumbass mouth too?

Charlie Daniels can get kinda preachy about his beliefs too.

Personally I think everything aout Nugent sucks. his Music and opinions. His draft dodging and child rape..... Charlie Daniels makes good music, but is a whiney snowflake.

Those are just 2 examples. My point being virtually every position of the political spectrum has musical artist talking about it. That's what music is. Its verbal art that tells a story or has a point. Its a few minutes where someone can put a message out. As a song writer I imagine it would get boring if every song you wrote was about dirt roads and tailgates. Good songwriters tell all kind of stories. And they talk about what they believe in and are passionate about.

That includes, Isbell and Nugent

That's what makes music great. It has a long history of being a voice for current issues. It's one of the reasons music is so powerful and moving. Music would be boring if it was nothing but stale topics that everyone agreed on.

And FTR, I hope Ted Nugent and Charlie Daniels keep saying stupid stuff I dont agree with. They should as long as they believe it and as long as there are people that want to listen. Its easy enough for me to avoid. Ted Nugent being an idiot doesn't harm me in any real way.

I have to assume that anyone who still listens to anything he says doesn't know about anything about him.

Hell, if there's one place you're *supposed* to be political, it's music.

Music made to inspire critical thought, or to unleash rage, that's real music. Everything else is just pop.
