Biggest surprise: Bob Stoops

Why? He was still getting paid about $350k from OU but took a pay cut to $165k to go coach the XFL, and he’s made a crazy amount the last 10 years. So I doubt it’s money related. Seems odd.

Only answer I can think of is Stoops loves to coach but doesn't want the high stress big-time college football atmosphere. So he gets to coach in about the lowest stress environment there is. Have some fun with a new league, and maybe it will rekindle his coaching juices to seek out another college job when/if the XFL folds or he moves on.

Probably just enjoys coaching and wants to do it without all the ********. He could obviously go bank millions by getting back in the college game, but he'd have to go back to kissing *** with recruits and pretending he's not repulsed by boosters, etc. Could try to get an NFL job and if he got it, would get rewarded with 80 hour weeks. Or he can go coach in the XFL and be a big enough name for them that he'll be more or less left along to coach. Doesn't seem that crazy to me.

he might be bored to tears at home and just enjoys coaching. Some people just love it. Also less time consuming than college football.
