Anyone remember Tyrone Washington?

[PearlRiverCoDawg]

I met him Saturday night in Downtown Mobile. He was a great and friendly guy. He was telling me stories about Dampier. He's definitely the first 6'10 person I've stood next to. I was too young to remember the 96 team but it was very cool to finally meet one of them.

I met him at an alumni function in New Orleans. Nice guy. Quiet. He made a lot of money overseas and was retired. This was years ago.

He actually approached me seeing my class ring and State hate. Very cool moment.

That is cool. I got to meet Dampier about 2 years ago at a restaurant in Hattiesburg. I also was privileged to meet the ‘96 team during the season at the USM Game- got the entire starting 5’s autograph on the front cover of the program except for D. Jones. I even got RW’s autograph. I know it’s a shame I don’t have DJ’s , especially the way he blew up in the tournament. I feel like tracking him down and asking him for the autograph on the program. It’s a neat piece of history that I was able to hold onto.

It's been awhile since I've watched it, but he had significant playing time in the Elite Eight win over Cincinnati.

I was in JR high when they made the 96 run. I went to church with one of the two boosters that really helped him out at NorthEast CC prior to coming to State. They remained tight and the man got it personalized for me at the The Meadowlands. Sadly that man passed not long before Christmas so it means even more to me now.

He probably had a class to go to in Hattiesburg anyway.**

Ty Washington had two vehicles while he was at State. A Mercedes and a 4-Runner.

I had classes with him at McCool....

He was always coming up and talking to me and others in the class. My experience with most high profile athletes was very different, for sure. Seemed like a decent guy.

Dampier drove a beige Maxima. He had the seat all the way back. I remember seeing him driving down Hwy 12. He was leaned back so far his head was in the back seat. He lived for a little while down the street from me with Moulds and Darryl Wilson. He was always very nice to me and my roommates. Moulds on the other hand was a different story.
