If these were the only two options for the kickoff time of our first game, which would you prefer?

Saturday, 11 a.m.

Thursday, 7 p.m.

The SEC Network has had an opening Thursday night game every year since its inception, so somebody is getting moved to that night in all likelihood. I normally do not love Thursday night kickoffs but if these are our only two options I would be on board with it.

They might love that option to put Leach's SEC debut on a Thursday night too. I'm for it.

Easy for me - Thursday at 7pm

-Night games are so much more fun
-Avoid the hot sun
-I'm usually beyond ready to get it going so 2 days earlier is better.
-Get to sit in front of the TV for 12+ hours on Saturday and don't have to miss being at the State opener in person
-A couple extra days to prepare/rest for week 2
-Night games are so much more fun

That first thur night game would be a huge showcase. College football fans are itching for a game so bad it doesn't matter whos on.
Plus those 11am games are brutal

How would the tailgating work again? I don’t remember the last time we played at home on a Thursday since the advent of the Junction while school was in session.

With the Thursday Egg Bowl on the road, I might be OK with a Thursday home game for the first game of the season. Otherwise, Saturday every time. We really need to get the Egg Bowl moved back to Saturday, or even Friday, though.

Campus would probably be open for tailgating all day, the question for me would be more in regard to if campus would be closed that day and if not, what the parking situation would be.

In 2013 we played Kentucky on a Thursday during fall break (really dumb decision, it was one of the worst student crowds we’ve ever had). But since it was fall break campus was closed. In 2011 we played LSU on a normal Thursday, believe it was Week 3. They ended up cancelling classes and I think did away with fall break that year, instead gave students the entire week off for Thanksgiving. Someone will have to help me out with what we did in 2010, 2007, and 2006 for those Thursday games.

I have no idea how they would handle the logistics this time. It would be the first time we’ve had a Thursday game in this situation in a while.

This sounds like a plant by the MSU athletic department.

Lol I swear I’m not but if they go with a Thursday night kickoff I would be on board. I just wouldn’t be excited at all about reliving an experience similar to the USM game for the second year in a row.

I hear you having experienced the USM game as well. I think it being Leach's first game makes it less likely to be an 11 AM start. The biggest issue for me with Thursday night games is having to adjust my work schedule to make it work.

Auburn vs. Alcorn, LSU vs Texas-San Antonio, Arkansas vs. Nevada, Texas A&M vs. Abeline Christian, Tennessee vs. Charlotte, Vanderbilt vs. Mercer, Florida vs. Eastern Washington, Kentucky vs. Eastern Michigan, South Carolina vs. Coastal Carolina, and Mizzou vs. Central Arkansas to me seem to be the main candidates for the 11 AM slot and with it being Leach's first game I'm guessing that unless the AD offers us up for Thursday on a volunteer basis that most of those would get an 11 AM slot before us. Except for LSU.

I bet we get 2:30 because of the kickoff classics unless we tell the SEC we want Thursday and I'm thinking the Thursday slot will go to either Ole Miss, Alabama, or Georgia. So Thursday is a LOT more likely than 11 AM if I had to guess.

I would love it. I would vote for just about anything other than the 11am slot the first few weeks in Sept.

The opening Thursday game (speaking specifically on the SEC Network game) the last few years has not been a good one. Year 1 it was A&M vs S.C. simply because it was the first ever game on the SECN. Ever since then that game has featured a directional school though. So they ordinarily are not picking the best game for that slot, just someone who would be willing to move to Thursday.

Georgia/Virginia is actually on Labor Day night. The Bama and Ole Miss games will be on major networks, no chance those are SECN Thursday Night games. So somebody versus a directional school is going to be in that slot. And I believe Leach’s debut would be an intriguing pick for the first SEC game of the year.

The SEC needs to do away with 11 AM games in September at a bare minimum. No question about that. It's a health hazard. Of course I'm kind of paranoid about heat stroke so that probably shapes my opinion some.

That's interesting. We'll probably get put on Thursday night since we will be the most intriguing match up because of Leach then.

One good thing about Leach is as long as we play well I bet we have fewer 11 AM games in general.

I’m not sure that’s necessarily true simply because networks don’t automatically view 11 am games as the worst games or the worst time slot. The A&M game in 2014 featured two Top 15 teams and it was at 11. And the Abilene Christian game last year was at night.

You're not wrong, but it'll never happen. TV drives everything. They do need to keep it to 1 or 2 games per week though.

Alabama played 3 11 AM games this past season. I hear they are pretty good at football. But when they schedule Talledega Junior College, they gonna get that 11 am slot too.

Thursday night if I could get a ticket, I'd probabaly go. Saturday at noon... no way I'd go.

Why don’t the networks....swap the Thursday egg bowl...with another game which plays on Friday....every other year?? I’m drawing a blank but doesn’t Ark play LSU on the Friday after Egg Bowl Thursday??
Good grief this would be MUCH BETTER than having to play every Thanksgiving Thursday.
I’d MUCH rather play on Friday or Saturday than on Thurs for the Egg Bowl.

Thursday night games are best for TV viewers and students (those were some of the best days). Saturday morning is only good for day-trippers. It's an awkward tailgating time and a crowded period of the day for TV.

Count me in for Thursday night.
