But I am disappointed in the lack of African-American coaches hired by Leach. I know, I know - “winning is the only color that matters.” This is big boy college football and I get it. Maybe it’s a systemic problem, where not enough A-As are given opportunities to reach the P5 level or whatever.

More likely it’s the fact Leach already had his own staff, made up guys not from the South East. It will probably change as coaches cycle out of the program.

To be clear, I’m not criticizing Leach. However, you might not have noticed the disparity, but you can be damned sure players notice. This ain’t Washington.

The Croom years of 2004 - 2008 was Cruel and Unusual Punishment...but it was incredibly Politically Correct...and it was a LOT of losing.

Notice how Alabama / Nick Saban's staff is like...white guy Kirby Smart, white guy Lane Kiffin, white guy Steve Sarkisian, white guy Pete Gooding. It's almost as if Saban puts finding the best qualified candidates for his staff above any thoughts of appeasing PC quotas.

With that said, I would love to have Tony Hughes, Sleepy Robinson, and even Fred Smoot on our staff!

Maroon is the only color that matters......Sylvester Croom. If Leach wins here, he will be elevating quite a few African-Americans with their careers. I, and I think I can absolutely use "we" here, want Mississippi State to win. If we do, it absolutely lifts every boat associated with the program. In this case, MAROON absolutely IS the only color that mattters,

What a hot take, my guy.

It’s a football team, not the UN. Hire whoever Leach thinks is the most qualified, and let’s roll.

Phelps and Darcel mcBath are coming from WSU. I don't think he has hired all his coaches yet.

This just feels you’re trying to stir the pot. You know good and well that this is not nearly the issue you’re making it out to be. We will have at least three African American coaches on staff, two of which worked with Leach at Wazzu.

Our fanbase is losing its dang mind over a coaching staff that isn’t even complete yet. It has been an embarrassing few days for MSU fans on the internet.

Notice to all posters. When the phrase, “i know i will get ripped to shreds for this” or any variation of said phrase is used, that poster is most definitely trying to cause a scene.

It’s like saying,”no offense” because you know you’re about to say some offensive ****.

Like when Dwight Yoakum says “naw I’m just kidding” in Sling Blade after saying awful **** to John Ritter and BB Thornton.

Out of curiosity I went and looked at LSU and Bama’s staffs. LSU had 3 and Bama 4. Ole Miss new staff will have 3.

Honestly we’ve hopefully reached the point where I don’t think most players or fans really care about the color of someone’s skin.

It’s certainly a worthy dialogue to make sure minorities are getting fair shots at jobs but assuming we end up with who we think we end up with then seems you are grasping at straws.

For those of us who are uninformed- who has he hired as assistants? How does that compare to say, Mullens early staffs? Just curious

Well I'm disappointed in the lack of white guys in positions other than QB and tight end and I think it's a systemic problem. However I've heard it's that way because whites simply aren't "qualified" enough (not fast enough, etc.) to play those positions....but I'm evidently racist and practically a Grand Wizard for even noticing the lack of "diversity" on the field in the first place, soooo..

....You know, just pointing out the astronomical hypocrisy for the virtue signaling jackasses among us.

You've got to look at his past-- and when you do you'll see that Ruffin McNeill was on his first coaching staff at Texas Tech beginning as LB coach in 2000, was promoted to Assistant Head Coach and was in charge of special teams before he was Leach's DC in 2008-09.

Dr. King suggested that we judge people not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Presuming that you are suggesting hiring a coach, whom is less qualified, based upon the color of his skin . . . that is racist. (my opinion)

I couldn't care less what skin color any of our coaches have.

Our coaches could be polka-dot aliens from another planet . . . I don't care . . . so long as our football team plays good football and wins.

The NFL bitches about this too. It’s not racism. A lot of Black Americans just aren’t good coaches. Instead of asking about opportunity ask why they aren’t good. Secondly, the players need to shut the 17 up and play ball. They run their mouth too much on Twitter crying about their coaches leaving. If they would have played as hard as they tweeted their favorite coach might still be here.

For for guys saying that skin color doesn’t matter, they can be green, etc as long as we win games, just ask yourself this question: what if our new coaching staff were almost all AA’s? Like all except 2 or 3..

BE HONEST. I BET some/many of you would have the reaction “well where’s the white dudes?” and not just “well maroon is the only color that matters...”

My Titans have a midget on the sidelines. We won’t be woke til we start hiring more little people at State.

I’d hire one and put a parrot on his shoulder**

Um... Moorhead’s assistant coaches (position coaches) were mostly AA — 6 or 7 guys. Only white guys were the Shoop, Briener, and Joey Jones, 4 if you count Moorhead. I never paid any attention to it until this thread...

I’m not counting off the field guys. No one knows who they are anyway.

There probably would be "some" but not very many at all, and those people would most likely be questioned and criticized more harshly than the original poster here.

This is worse than my opinionated drunk post from a couple of weeks back that I couldn’t figure out how to delete. This is D-1 ball not equal opportunity. Good coaching decisions are color blind.

Yeah that first sentence seems like a little bit of an over correction.
