I did Army basic at Ft. Lewis, WA (71) and we had tree bark chips in our PT pits. I understand Ft. Polk, LA had sand in their PT pits. We spent so many days with our shorts and T-shirts full of bark chips after morning PT. I'm sure the Ft. Polk guys had sand in their shorts and t-shirts.
Some State players may grow up over then next few months.
I doubt he will put his boot into anyone's back and ram them into the sand when they are low-crawling too high off the sand, but it happens all the time in basic.
Our DI put us in the pit one day and told us we would low crawl all afternoon long unless we each filled our pants with bark chips. A couple of guys refused, and the rest of us helped them out of their indecision.
