What assistant’s have been retained? Is he bringing anyone from WSU? What about outside hires? Inquiring minds want to know.

His entire offensive staff from WSU is coming it appears. Appears he’s keeping the off field staff here. No one knows about defensive staff yet.

Think he is going to hire DC and then let him have input on who he wants for his assistants.

I think it’s important to keep his wr and qb coach. They already know the drill and how to run that offense and precision necessary. I would still like to see bumphis on staff if we can work him in.

If he brings his offensive coaches, which he most likely is, some of them have southern ties. OL coach Mason Miller is from Valdosta, Ga and has coached in Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. Dave Nichol who is the IWR Coach is from Dallas and has coached in Texas. We all know OWR Coach, Steve Spurrier Jr. and his southern ties. The RB Coach is Eric Mele from New Jersey. Most of these guys either played for, or have coached with Leach for a while.

I realize nobody will be in favor of this but it is just a question, not a recommendation.

Since Hal Mumme spent most of the last 10 years in Mississippi and even had a Radio show here, is there a chance Coach a Leach night bring him on as off the field Adviser to the staff?

Why? Because he played here?

I’m with you here. What qualifications does he have outside of playing here? Gotta prove that you can coach and recruit before you get an on field position. Especially with how important receivers are to this offense.

I can’t remember if he got better his last year or not but I distinctly remember Bumphis only catching the ball on out routes. Would literally drop every one across the middle.

Highly doubtful

Hughes, and to a lesser degree Buckley, are probably the only coaches who have a chance of staying on. But if Hughes stays it won’t be as TE coach because Leach doesn’t have one of those on staff. My guess is we hire a DC first and then fill out the rest of the staff.

But yeah, sounds like most or possibly all of the offensive staff will be coming directly from Wazzu. Leach is his own OC and QB coach so we won’t have a separate one of those. And like I said, no TE coach but two WR coaches instead.

He's the WR coach at Austin Peay and was a GA at Utah before. I don't know how good of a coach he is, but he has qualifications outside of just playing here.

Looks to be immaterial, anyway, since Leach's two WR coaches will be coming with him.

In between sorting all that staff out, I hope he calls a few receivers. Maybe Alex Adams, E Ja i Mason and Rufus Harvey. Unless he has some better ones in mind. We sure are gonna need some

Spurrier can't win at Scott Field.

I think I heard that Leach coaches QB's (and maybe WR's) himself.

hes qualified to coach. Not in the SEC west. I’ve seen people want us to hire J banks and Boobie just because they played here too. I love those guys but we aren’t in the business of giving out jobs because they love Mississippi state.

I don’t know this but I would imagine he is going to recruit nationally at the QB and WR position. I’m sure he has a ton of connections in Texas and on the west coast.
