Was that a dig at OM?

Speaking of Starkville and the people, he described them as "down to earth" and said "they're not running around in linen suits even when its casual time."

I doubt it was intended because we should all be like Coach Leach in this regard......we should give zero 17s about Ole Miss except Egg Bowl week.

That said, I'm sure Yancy and Not-A-Fan got their noses out of joint when they heard it. Look for the ensuing pearl clutching on the Spirit if interested.

I don’t think it was a dig either. . I liked the way he referred to the egg bowl as it being huge but, you start beating people and every game is going to be huge like that. It’s almost as though if anyone is obsessed with that game/team, there can be other fish to fry. However, still understands the significance of the rivalry.

I know many here won't agree, but I'm glad Lane and Leach are friends and may tone down the recent toxicity.

Doesn't mean I'm going to start meeting Ole Miss people and expecting to get a positive first or second impression.

Screw that, the toxicity will never subside because Ole Miss is the source of it. Maybe how we respond to it will change, but I'm an older guy who has been going to Egg Bowls since the late 70s, and I'm here to tell you.....having us talk about how important the game and rivalry is to us is exactly what they want, because it feeds their "obsessed" narrative.

If Leach proceeds to ignore them or not talk about them, that will ratchet up the toxicity even more because they need that attention. It's somewhat similar to when Jackie called them "Mississippi". He treated them like they were insignificant and he was focused on other things, and that drove them crazy.

There is only 2 ways to end a rivalry. 1. Quit playing each other - not gonna happen. 2. Consistently dominate the other team .

USM used to be considered a rivalry. it used to be competitive. Now it is not competitive and is viewed more as big brother helping out little brother and getting in some practice reps. That is the way the egg needs to be in the future. Just another W at the end of the season - no drama.

Got no interest in ending the rivalry, just pretty tired of some parts of it. It'll never be civil and I don't want it to be, but the games need to feel safe to attend and not an embarassment to Mississippi.

If I thought Ole Miss football fading into oblivion was a possibility, I'd be all for it, but they've remained decent to good many years even with their ridiculously racist traditions.

Honest question - do you really go into interactions with Ole Miss fans expecting a negative interaction? Or is that just message board banter?

Reason I ask is because that’s crazy to me, if true.. I’m not saying you’re crazy, as obviously something has shaped those feelings. I know a few people on each side of the rivalry that feel that way about the other, but they are on the fringe of the fanbases.

I have, sincerely, never had a first impression influenced by which Mississippi school the person pulls for. I know some crappy State fans. I know some crappy Ole Miss fans. But the vast majority of both are great people. Some of the absolute finest, most dependable, and all in all great people that I know are State fans/alumni.

Yea I agree. Unfortunately the game takes on a lot of high-school style qualities too often. Fights, **** talking, horribly ugly uniforms, playing on Thursday night, and players acting like they're pissing in the endzone. I'd like for it to grow up a little. However, the Egg Bowl will always maintain a level of animosity that's faded a little bit in other rivalries due to how small the state is and how many in-state players are still on each team.

You don’t feel safe? I went to the 2018 egg bowl with my ole miss buddy was felt very safe. Those cucks are gonna do anything or say anything. They just sorta glance and go. Most are gutless.

I was mainly kidding. I've had positive relationships with a bunch of OM folks through the years. But the ones who exude all of the qualities State fans hate about Ole Miss fans are out there, and there are plenty of them.

I don’t think it was. I thought it was weird though how many questions involved Kiffins name. I didn’t hear his name this much when he was hired by Ole Miss, but honestly, I wasn’t paying this much attention then because well, Joe was still our head coach and it was Ole Miss, I don’t follow them.

I noticed that too. But I am pretty sure every question that had Kiffin, or egg bowl, or anything ole miss in it came from Clarion Ledger sportwriters.

Yeah for sure. That’s fair, and I figured you were kidding, but I see comments like that a lot so I was just curious if some people actually go through life feeling that way. I suppose some do.

But, I get it about those Ole Miss fans - I know a couple who can make me dislike Ole Miss if I’m around them very long. They truly believe the narrative about Ole Miss somehow being superior to State. And they are complete losers and dumbasses, too.
