Severe weather update.

Looking like Saturday morning will see the highest chance of severe weather across the entire state. SPC is looking at upgrading the western part of Mississippi and parts of Arkansas and Louisiana into a moderate chance of severe weather. All modes of severe storms are possible but looks like high winds could be the biggest player and with the wet weather we have been seeing, power outages will be a big threat from downed trees.

Some strong language for today in the "moderate" area

Widespread damaging winds, some hurricane force
Several tornadoes, a few intense
Scattered large hail, some baseball size

Just wondering, what is presently the official storm chasers policy on obeying traffic laws since the fatal accident and subsequent wrongful death lawsuits concerning storm chasers?

Policy is always to obey traffic laws. Now, just like regular drivers going down the road at 2:30 on a Wednesday, some will obey the laws and some will not. Chasers are the same way. But we are not emergency responders or anything govt related. Nobody is required to move out of our way and we are not allowed to break traffic laws. It's all an individual decision on how to drive. I will not run a stop sign or traffic light. I have been known to exceed the posted speed limit from time to time, though.

I remember a couple years or so ago I had crossed over into AL chasing a tornado that just went through Scooba. I was on an AL county road. It was in nice enough condition but still a county road. I was going pretty fast but since I was watching the road not sure how fast when all of a sudden I had my left side doors blown off the hinges by another chaser. I looked down and was doing 95 and he passed me like I was sitting still.

I live a couple miles north of 55/69. Thunder and lighting got intense but nothing else. My property between OB and Lewisburg could be a different story. Waiting until daylight to go check on it.

Got a buddy that lives your way and it blew his windows out of his bedroom window. Seems like most of the damage is around hwy 51, Wheeler road and Love Rd and over towards Robertson gin. Tons of roads blocked by down power lines and trees in that area as well.

Yes I would not be surprised if there was a tornado on the ground from south of Hernando to Olive Branch. Hearing theres quite a bit of damage between Lewisburg HS and the hospital on Bethel Rd.

Power's out in Olive Branch south of the railroad tracks on Hacks Cross and as far south as I could see including the Flying J and Methodist hospital areas.

We got in the shelter around 4:40 or so, but it was moving so fast that it was over in ten minutes. I’m around the 69/55 area, and we don’t appear to have any damage. I have to head south for work in a few, so things may be different that way.

55 south of hernando had trees blocking the roadway. They have cleared it but still a lot of debris so be careful traveling 55 in that area.

Stay away from Bethel and Craft. Power line blocking road and debris in road from trees and a house. Starting to see friends in the area report damages to their homes. Waiting to hear from my family in the area.

Lots of damage from Lewisburg High School to Cedarview grocery. I lucked up with the house I’m about to move to. A large tree down in the yard. Shingles and shutters blown off. Lots of limbs everywhere. Just a 1/2 mile away it’s trees down everywhere. Roofs on top of cars. Shops completely gone. It’s bad.

51 was a NIGHTMARE. It took me an hour and a half to make a 20 minute drive. The center of it crossed right at 51 and Love, and it was pretty wide. Whole lot of damage from Arkabutla to areas NE. Bad deal.

That's a nice area, DCD.

Yeah, it sounded like my house was coming apart for about that long, and it was over so far as really intense stuff was concerned. My only casualty was the kids' old playhouse blew over.

That incident was a case of extreme distracted driving.

Spann showed a train up around Tupelo that got blown off the tracks. Like 30 cars long.

Looks like the train off the tracks was in Tallahathie County
