I guess it's human nature for a fan base have factions bitching about a coaching hire no matter who it is, outside of maybe Bill Belichick or Nick Saban. But I think things could get really interesting in Starkville with Leach there. It'll take a year or so to get his guys in place but you guys should be lighting up scoreboards in short order.

I also think you're getting a motivated guy with something to prove. I think playing in the best conference has been something Leach has wanted a crack at for a long time. I think this shot means something to him. You're going to get his best.

Look, the SEC West is brutal no matter who you hire. But I think Leach might be the best hire of any of the names I saw bandied about. And if he's successful, I think he's inclined to stick around for a long time, like he did at Texas Tech and Wazzu. Napier and others are young and I think you'd be hard pressed to keep them if they do well. Leach doesn't bounce around and doesn't take any offer that comes his way.

You know you're going to score points. If he hires a decent DC to pair with it, he could be hell on wheels.

Thanks. I think that's a very informed take on it. While he was being welcomed at the airport he kept repeating "it's an honor to be here".

I think being in the SEC is a big deal for him. If he has some success I could see him finishing his career with us, which would be outstanding.

Well, we were only down 21 six minutes in this year. We still had a chance at that point.....

I don't think the adjustment period will be all that long. Look at some facts:

1. The QB we signed is a prototypical Leach QB, and knows Leach because he recruited him

2. The RB we signed is a prototypical Leach RB

3. Our OL is good enough to block for the quick release times

4. We have some talented but young receivers. However, if they don't work out, next year is a bumper crop of receivers in MS

5. Our defense can slow most teams down- and that's really all they'll be asked to do.

This could work. Excited to see the crew he assembles.

Please don't take this the wrong way or get too offended .........................................................................................

but Auburn can go get 17d. And I mean like 17ity, 17, 17, 17d. The whole 17n institution can go 17 itself. And every one of its supporters can go straight to 17n hell. I mean that sincerely.

No offense.

Re: #5 I just don't see why everyone is assuming that because Leach is an offensive guy, that our D will suffer. It's the SEC. Hire a legit DC and let's roll. No different than any other year or HC.

The biggest issue is when your offense passes all the time, they don't run a lot of clock, so your D ends up on the field a lot. It could be an issue in the SEC, but I gotta believe it's a challenge he can figure out. He's been at this **** awhile.

Hope you're right! I went on the Rant and I'd say it's nearly 98% positive hire for us. Arkansas fans are salty though.

What Rabbi said. No offense, but I’ll believe Epstein killed himself before I believe that Auburn and everything associated with it isn’t the scummiest, biggest piece of **** in the universe. Again, no offense.

Leach had to scramble to get players to come to WSU. He will have a better base here in the south and I hope he still has some Texas contacts.

I can promise you one thing after being able to follow him at Tech, you aren't going to have to worry about Holloway up the middle or playing WRs that can't catch or QBs that aren't prepared.

He just needs the right staff here and he has been through the wars hiring those people.

It's going to be interesting.

I agree. Pullman, WA is BFE. Getting kids to come play there is a struggle for any coach and the Pacific NW isn't exactly a football recruiting hotbed.

I always agreed with Erk Russell, the great DC and HC, about the "Poor old defense has been on the field all day" mantra.

Erk said, "Well the poor old defense could make em go 3 and out, or get a turnover, and get off the field"

I temporarily just confused you with my wife's aunt. She was one of (if not the) first female members of some form of the R.E.C. (I don't know how it works, and she never mentioned it. This came from my father-in-law. I married into Alabama family).

With that being said... She, being a fine woman, could say all sorts of ill things about said institution, and follow it up with a gratuitous, "No offense."
