Then what is Todd Monken doing these days. Hopson is a joke. Mississippi Southern fans would love to see some school hire him away.

He was the OC under Kitchens at Cleveland Brown. When he left Southern and went to the NFL he stated that the NFL was where he always wanted to be. Besides, he didn't like recruiting according to "sources"

He was a damn good coach, and for somebody who didn’t like recruiting, he did it pretty well. Strong disciplinarian AND the players loved him. Who would have thought that was possible? I think Monken has come really close to being an NFL head coach a couple times, but I fear that window has closed for him. State should make him a good offer. Last I heard he was making two million a year. It wouldn’t be a “splash hire,” but it would be a good one.

He played at Ole Miss and is a great guy but not sure I want him as a bulldog coach.

To address the OP and a response, Hopson is not a joke. But he’s not a great coach either. He is the very definition of a decent coach. He will win 7-8 games a year. No more, no less.

To be honest, that win average is about what both State and OM are going to do in the long run, although we "wish" it was different...but not in the SEC, particularly the west division
