What’s so great about Napier?

Everyone is talking so highly of him and like he’s the next big thing but what makes him a potential great hire. I’m not saying he is an awful candidate I don’t know much about him besides the 2 years he’s had a ULL being good but is he just a potential great hire because we don’t have many options left at this point? Someone sell me on him so I can be hyped like the rest.

Saban thinks he is the best assistant (not coordinator) that he has ever had. Great recruiter and has done a solid job at ULL. He has seen the Saban blueprint up close.

The questions I have is can he hire a SEC level staff and do we get off the floor in assistant pay so that he can? Why the hell did Arkansas hire an absolute clown and not interview Napier?

Sold! Don’t get me wrong I think moving on is correct but I wonder if that’s why everyone is hyped because they just want some one new (and with an actual brain) or if he has credentials to do something great here. I realize at this point we don’t have many choices to choose from but if we make another hire we have to stick with them at least 3 years or it’s going to look really bad. So I didn’t want to potentially hire someone because that’s all that is left to choose from. I’m Just trying to buy into the hype around him.

Of the realistic options he probably has the best resume, and culture-wise he seemingly would be a very good fit here.

Two things (other than toughness and discipline) I would like to see in a coach, high energy and a likable outgoing personality. How does Napier line up in those two areas? Someone who would do great in interviews, especially on shows like Finebaum.

I see he has young kids, hopefully he fits that Saban mold and doesn't even know their names.

- Has coached under Saban and Dabo

- Successful G5 coach.

- Dad and both brothers coached HS football in Georgia. Hello recruiting!

True but he was originally hired by Tommy Bowden and his position on the staff changed under Dabo. This was all early in his career. Resume wise hard to say he is a slam dunk. Certainly done well as HC at ULL.

Someone can link the article (too early in the morning for me to go searching for it). It basically lays out that he implemented Saban’s “The Process” at ULL immediately. He understands how successful it is to run a program using “The Process.” I think he named it something different (maybe “The Program”). In contrast, JM’s process was apparently all about comfort (i.e. wearing house shoes to work.)

He was Bowdens recruiting coordinator when Bowden quit mid season due to underperforming. Then eventually fired by Dabo. Has two years of head coaching experience. Hope he works out.

Napier is only 40 years old.

In that time:
- was a GA at Clemson for two years
- left to become QB coach at South Carolina state for one season
- was immediately brought back to Clemson and given the recruiting coordinator job in his second real year of coaching. Also tight ends coach. A job he held for 3 years before getting promoted again.
- at 29 years old was made Dabo’s offensive coordinator and QB coach at Clemson. Did that for two years before being let go by Dabo to go more pass heavy, a move that obviously worked out for Clemson. Personally don’t remember how he was there. Just amazing being handed the keys to that offense at 29.
- was one of the first “rehab career” analysts at Bama at 31.
- associate head coach and qb coach at Colorado St at 32.
- Back to Bama as wr coach from 33-37. Widely considered one of the best recruiters in the country during that time.
- Arizona State as OC at 38 with complete control of the offense and they improved a bunch. Was Herm’s first call when he got there and they offered to throw the bank at him but had already accepted the ULL job.
- At 39 and 40 has been a head coach at ULL and consistently put together the best recruiting classes in the sun belt. Won 10 there this year with a shot at number eleven. And won his division both years. Is recruiting better than Hud ever did down there.

Trajectory of ULL is fantastic.
Oeff and Deff both improved each year under him.
Studied under Saban and Dabo.
Knows the south and what it takes to recruit.
On record saying he’s developed his programs plan from watching the best.
Fit his offense to his players at ULL.
Has never told me to pound sand nor kick rocks.
No players broke orbital bones of starting QB.
Never had number 1 defense and lose 4 games.
Doesn’t say stupid quotes of the day off his calendar at pressers.
Has never won a game bc opponent did urination simulation.
Eyebrows are level.
Wife doesn’t cry at games.
Daughter has thicker skin.

What isnt to love about him?

He's just a hot name, and spent a lot of time with Saban. As soon as his record dips back down, all the sheep will quit slobbering over him. People are obsessed with 'trajectory', as if it's even possible or likely to maintain that over time.
