Regardless of the coaching change ...

... I can't help but shake my head at the missed opportunity the MSU program didn't take advantage of when UM was on the rocks with their probation, Freeze leaving and having an OL coach leading the program.

MSU should have recruited much better than UM and widened the distance between the two programs. Sure, MSU won 3 of the last 4 Egg Bowls and has finished ahead of UM in the SEC standings 8 or 9 out of the last 10. But MSU had a chance to absolutely bury UM and pissed it away.

Now which team is on the best trajectory? Time will tell. Let's get Napier or whoever in here to fill his staff. And then see how the blue collar mentality vs the flash/sizzle up north on the recruiting trail.

These two teams will never separate themselves from the other by a very wide margin

We're still in good position. If Napier (assuming he's the guy) can hold this class together, we are positioned much better for the next recruiting cycle. I would hate to go into next fall with a lame duck coaching staff.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that it will be like the last 60 years: a back and forth battle between two crabs trying to climb out of a bucket, with neither gaining a lasting advantage without hiring a top 5 national coach.

I'm less worried about the Pissers than I am about the way we handled this crap with Moorhead. As happy as I would be if we actually make the change, the way it all went down from Thanksgiving to now pretty much makes our administration look just as sloppy as our football team.

The Prez and AD better hope the new guy is acceptable to the fanbase and that our basketball teams and baseball teams make the fans forget this debacle until summer time.

This has been the best 24 -48 hours ever. For the first time, I have hope for our future and finally getting out of this battered wife yoke we constantly carry. If we fire a bowl coach, we will have officially arrived. Onward and upward. If we fail to act, it may break me.

OM was never in a position to be buried. And as much as we hate to admit, OM made the right move promoting Luke from a recruiting standpoint. OM had nothing to sell, but he found a way to keep the program competitive.

Cohen made a bad hire and it cost us a handful of wins over the last two seasons. Hopefully we’ll make a good hire now and move our program in the right direction.

Better make that the last 46 years. From 1960 to 1973 was our worst era ever and will hopefully remain that way.

I know there have been cases where it worked but I believe you hire baseball coaches to coach baseball and you hire people in athletic administration to be Athletic Director. What is it about coaching baseball that qualifies him to be the CEO of a company with a 150 million budget?

The rebnecks have set themselves up to take advantage of the new pay for play rules. I can't help but believe that the hire of questionable character coaches will fast track their ability to take advantage of the pay for play rules.

I have spent some time in the "corporate" world (thankfully a tiny part of my working career). A big part of getting promoted in that world appears to me to be identifying whose *** to kiss and how to do it.... I think John figured that out and executed well.

This is what is so incredible to me. What Moorhead has done with the team on the field and culturewise the last two years is criminal, but stepping back, if we move now and make a good hire, that will be all it costs us, is a few wins over a couple of seasons. Granted he cost us a potential special season in 2018, but usually a bad coaching hire is much more destructive than that.

Moorhead did a good job plugging some massive holes Mullen left that could have been crippling. The next coach will come in with an OL and DL set up solidly for the future. I don't think our culture problem is one that can't be fixed in an off season. I think we just have a leadership void as much as anything; not a locker room full of cancers that require a team to be torn down. So all in all, we may have used a terrible coach to transition us through a dangerous time where we were facing a potential devastating lack of talent on the OL and DL, and come out the other side ok. Still depends on pulling the trigger and making a good hire, but being able to make a bad hire without tearing the program down to nothing would be a pretty incredible bit of luck for us.
