Todd Grantham. Napier is still probably the favorite right now, but if not him, there seems to be some serious Grantham chatter.

How would you guys view this? I loved the guy as our DC but obviously head coach is a different ballgame. I would say he’s probably not my first choice but I think it could work well with the right assistants in place.

Thoughts?

The best thing going for him is that he's not Joe Moorhead. But I don't think Grantham will generate the excitement that Napier would.

I would be disappointed with him as HC, but pumped if he came back as DC. If he were to get HC, better bring a superstar OC in, and i have no idea who that could be at this point.

I would not view it well. That's a HUGE risk on a guy that is known to be very volatile on the sidelines and has no HC experience that i am aware of. Really any coordinator with no HC experience is going to be a big risk for Cohen at this stage. Hud would be a much less risky choice than Grantham in my book.

I think it’ll be hard to sell MSU and OM as equals if both schools have coaching searches in the same offseason and one ends with Lane Kiffin and the other ends with Todd Grantham.

My dream scenario: Napier to MSU, Mullen to Dallas, Florida’s new coach does not retain Grantham, Grantham comes back to Starkville as DC.

My thoughts would be a guy who can retain the offensive pieces in place. I don't see anybody on defense transferring

If we brought in grantham, we would have to spend huge amounts of cash on assistants just to hope we could get the right combination LSU was able to find And Arkansas is trying to build, and since it is exceedingly clear we aren’t willing to pay well for assistants, it would be suicidal to leave our future in his hands alone.

STOP HIRING ASSISTANT COACHES THAT HAVE NEVER BEEN HEAD COACHES AND PAYING THEM TO LEARN ON OUR DIME!

...is my initial reaction. Yes, Mullen turned out to be good but our history with hiring career assistants is not good, and I don’t count Fordham.

I would only add Florida to hire Kiffen before he coaches a game at Ole Miss. If this happens I take back everything bad I ever said about Jerry Jones.

It might work. But understand, Todd is crazy as hell. He has stayed with Mullen this long because Dan knows not to mess with him.

This. I can assure you there will be nothing boring about a Kiffen vs Grantham Egg Bowl.

^ i didn’t watch much of the Orange Bowl, but i did see Grantham flipping off and MFing the other sideline after the late pick.

Hire a successful HC! We pay more than 90% of college football. There are no excuses for promoting coordinators.

Cohen needs to quit being so tight with the assistant coaching budget no matter who we hire. That's one legitimate major complaint Moorhead is entitled to have against MSU.

If we hire Grantham as HC, we might as well keep JoeMo one more year—and I hate his guts. I can rattle off a number of current G5 HEAD COACHES I’d rather have. Don’t 17 this up, Cohen.

He also almost got into an infamous fight with James Franklin after a Vanderbilt/Georgia game a few years ago.

Mullen and Derick Mason got mouthy a couple of years ago, Grantham was wanting to get in that too. Mason would have destroyed Mullen, but Mason and Grantham would be a hell of a match.

With his son playing small ball in the new Dude, I’d bet he’d jump at the opportunity to be HC or DC again (could be a pre-arranged package deal with Napier). I see this happening if Mullen does go to Dallas.

agreed. this is no time to sit on the purse strings. do we want to compete or not? hard to imagine a former big 3 HC is being so tight with the budget.
