No spoilers, I promise.

Curious to hear what others thought. I had fun with it but this was probably my least favorite of this trilogy. I like The Last Jedi more than a lot of people and this movie takes a total dump on that movie. Some people may like this one for that reason. There were some good moments, but I just thought they jammed too much stuff in there and rushed almost everything. It seems pretty clear that Lucasfilm was trying to figure it out as they went along and didn’t have a well defined plan from the beginning, and this trilogy suffered for it.

But hey, we get a new trilogy under Kevin Feige’s watch in a few years, and The Mandalorian is awesome. And I didn’t hate this movie, but I probably rank it lower than everything but the the first two prequels.

So the mandalorian is good? I've watched 30min of the first episode twice now because I fell asleep it was so slow and boring.
I'll have to take some nodoze before trying a 3rd time.

TLJ was a total abomination. I haven’t seen the new movie because the last one ruined the trilogy for me but if it dumps on TLJ then that’s a good thing.

I don’t understand how studio execs didn’t see the test screening of TLJ and put a complete stop to it.

As for the mandalorian, it’s ok. The dialogue and acting aren’t the greatest and if it wasn’t for baby yoda then I don’t know how much I would like it. Episode 6 and 7 were a lot better than previous episodes though.

The Last Jedi was indefensible garbage. Rian Johnson took what Abrams set up and basically dismantled it, with no plans in place on how to wrap up the trilogy. There’s a strange conflict taking place right now between Star Wars fans and critics that I’ve yet to wrap my head around. There’s the massive gap between fan approval of TLJ and critic reviews, which seems to continue with TROS, but in the opposite direction. There’s Rian Johnson’s recent comment that “creative freedom is more important than fans’ enjoyment.” And there have been numerous headlines like the one I saw from WAPO yesterday that said, “the new Star Wars movie is bad, fans will love it.” It’s clear that Disney just made **** up as they went along. I feel bad for Abrams. Would’ve loved to see how it turned out if he got to do the whole trilogy.

What Abrams set up? A hero that already has all the skills and then some and can pull them all as if yoda, Vader, and obi wan were all rolled into one?

There was no where to go.

I liked it. Pretty good story line to wind up the final trilogy.

Side note. The new fancy dinner/movie theatre at Renaissance Ridgeland is pretty damn awesome.

If critics hate it then it’s probably a decent Star Wars movie.

You really think there's an inverse correlation between critics liking a Star Wars film and how good it actually is? Here are the Rotten Tomatoes scores for each:

94 - The Empire Strikes Back
93 - A New Hope
93 - The Force Awakens
91 - The Last Jedi
83 - Rogue One
82 - Return of the Jedi
80 - Revenge of the Sith
70 - Solo
65 - Attack of the Clones
57 - The Rise of Skywalker
53 - The Phantom Menace

(Also note that all 11 of them are above 50%)

With regard to TLJ, it has a 91% fresh rating on RT, and only 43% fan approval. Likewise, ROS is only 57% fresh (critics’ score) and sitting at 87% fan approval. So he’s kinda got a point.

I feel like Rian Johnson comes out of this as the big winner because the Last Jedi looks like Casablanca compared to this messy pile of WTF.

Disney, Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy really dropped the ball with this trilogy. All they have to do is work with Lucas's outlines and scripts, and finish the last trilogy. They would rake in the money and satisfy all the fans, then be able to do what they want in movies after that.

Instead they toss George's ideas (then lie and say he didn't give them anything to follow), **** on all of the old characters and mythology, add in a good dose of feminism and some SJW crap sprinkled in and make a total mess. Return of the Jedi just took everything created up to that point and flushed it down the *******, so they had to make a fanboy's movie for the last movie with a ludicrous villain and a crazy theory for their heroine tossed in for good measure.

It's a shame Marvel wasn't in charge of this to begin with.

Ugh. I liked TLJ (Canto Bight scenes were weak but it addressed one concern I had— show me more force users than Skywalkers) so this isn’t good news to me. I suppose I’ll see it sometime.

It was more a joke about critically acclaimed movies not being highly valued by the general public. I’ve read the plot for TROS. Sounds convoluted and rushed to be honest. I’ll see it sometime.

I don’t understand why this was a concern for anyone. Other than the Skywalkers, we’ve seen Yoda, Palpatine, Darth Maul, Count Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, and tons of other Jedi in the films who are Force users. Maybe the only thing I liked in TLJ was that 10 second scene of the kid on Canto Bright though, so I’ll give you that.

Rian Johnson obviously didn’t have a plan for what came after TLJ though. He made a movie that “looked pretty” and “subverted expectations.” Holdo’s Manuever is one of the biggest plot holes in any movie ever made. When asked about why no one else had ever done it, his response was literally, “I don’t know. Maybe they outlawed it.”

Well my opinion... This was the best one of all 11.

Thoroughly enjoyed it and thought they did a great job wrapping everything up

I haven’t seen the new one and I guess I’ll go but I’m not as excited about it as a lifelong SW fan should be. I’m sure the kids will see this as an “OK Boomer” comment but I just don’t care about any of these new characters. Kylo Ren is a comically bad villain. Rey is also not interesting, at least to this viewer, unless she was a Skywalker of some sort, but if she is then they’ve sure taken their sweet *** time letting us in on it. I like some of the supporting characters that the new movies have created but the lead roles just don’t cut it for me. If the Rey character got cut in half Darth Maul-style in the first five minutes I couldn’t care less, and that’s not a good thing.

The whole new trilogy has been creatively bankrupt from the beginning, even The Force Awakens.

They had 7 movies lined up before any scripts had been written. Disney bought this to be their in-house Marvel and they blew it. Red Letter Media does a great job breaking down the garbage that has been coming out of Disney for years.

The other force users were in different movies though. The Skywalker feuding was tiresome.

Johnson did what he was supposed to do— to bring the plot to a certain point which he did even with the subversion of expectations.

That brief amount of time that Lucasfilms thought about Johnson having a series based on that Canto Bight kid made me happy for a while. I've been hoping for another perspective.

Yep, pretty lame. That's a good way to put it, run out of fuel. All over the place, trying to close down a bunch of endings. Just not good.

An honest question from someone who saw two of the originals in the theater as a little kid...
Why the hate for the new movies? I will grant that JarJar Binks is the most detestable character ever created in the history of ever.....but did anyone just enjoy there being more of a story that some of us have known for basically our entire lives? My son was GLUED to that screen Friday night, and I just get a kick out of seeing what modern special effects can do for the story. Rey was a great character to me, Kylo was 1/2 weakling and 1/2 really cool voice and shouldn’t be compared to Vader, and there are plenty of absurd characters in all 6 non-original films, but.....

Not directing this at ANYBODY on the board, but some of you old-timers tell me what is so terrible about these last three movies, aside from Leia’s “frozen float through space” in TLJ.

I enjoyed this one. Of the last 3 this is the best one. I'd put this one in the top 5 along with Solo if I'm alowed to.

Saw the movie tonight with my oldest who is almost 13. She watched the prior 8 during the late summer and was really looking forward to this one.

1- there were a couple of 3 year olds in the theater. Wt17?! I specifically kept my kid from watching the movies until she could understand the story lines(Senate, trade war, etc etc) and make the movies worth watching. Maybe she could have watched them at 11 and fully understood, but I bet most even at that age are missing a bunch of the plot.
3 year olds?! 17ing parents.

2- the movie was fine. It had good pace, introduced a couple of funny characters as usual, and it wrapped up important story lines.
I think most of the complaining online is due to it being fun for nerds to rip on something that's wildly successful and doesnt 'stay true' to whatever each of them thinks is true.

3- the Skywalker light saber coming back was odd. But maybe it was fixed and that's that?

It being in this trilogy to begin with was always weird. Luke lost it into the abyss in Cloud City when Vader cut off his hand. It showed up without explanation in TFA and they simply said “a good question for another time” and never told us how they ever found it. And the infamous force vision when Rey touched it for the first time never ended up making much sense either.

Saw it last night. It was the best SW movie since 1983. Unfortunately the (new) main characters are forgettable. That’s probably just a product of being older though. It was predictable, but it ended everything about as plausibly as you can end a fictional movie about space pirates. The Last Jedi was terrible. I don’t see how anyone enjoyed that movie.

Saw it today. I thought it was better than reports coming out. That being said, it’s no Empire but none of them are. I have liked them all except 1-3 and Solo was ****. It’s not boring l, no lulls. I recommend ya go if you consider yourself a fan. It’s really not bad.

Let's see... two female protagonists have SUPER powers that just "happened" without any of the training that the big Male protagonists had to learn and train to do and still not that well. No one ever just "was" a full force Jedi able to do any Jedi skill from the outset and I never saw another Jedi who could fly though space until Lea magically did it. Then the biggest point of the fleet chasing the Rebels in TLJ that the plan was only known among the women and every time the man asked what is going on he was demeaned and told to take his toys and go away. I won't even mention them taking ever main male character and either killing them or making them drink green milk. Yeah, the SJW was mostly in the droid in Solo and the totally unnecessary Rose character, but they all came from the same mind in direction.

She could have had her female Star Wars movies after this story was complete. Instead, she did her own thing and JJ was forced to make a fan movie around Johnson's screwup of the history of seven previous movies.

Just saw it today myself. I liked it overall. The only goofy thing to me was that I was supposed to believe that the Emperor somehow survived the fall into the abyss that Vader threw him into and then has been hiding out all this time in some Sith hideaway planet manipulating everything. But hey, its fantasy right?

Ha ha ha, this is hilarious. Oh ****, I forget some in this world walk around viewing life in this manner.

What you describe isnt necessarily feminism, its could just be bad writing/story creating.

Regardless, Rey isnt some rando who gets powers without training, she is seen training and her powers come from family.

And the SJW claim...gt17o with that ****. Why is Rose an SJW character? Why isnt she viewed just as an introduced minor character who has a potential storyline at the end of the last movie and is a minor character in this current movie?
