Do you think he gets fired if the team is disciplined, the XP is made, and we lose in OT?

If the answer is 'No,' which is what I think, then the lack of discipline and embarrassment are what cost him his job. I dont think the money was there to fire him otherwise.

I didn't want him fired until what went down at the end of the game went down. That was the perfect example of him failing at what was essentially his only job, discipline, because he sure as **** wasnt coordinating the offense or defense. That showed he had learned nothing from two years ago and the fact that he stuck Elijah out there for the onside kick was proof he never would learn **** or discipline the team.

Youre right about the fans and Ben, but I disagree the loss itself is what did him in.

Matt Luke was fired because he is a mediocre coach that lost the Egg Bowl. If he wins that game there is some sort of hope to sell the fanbase. Losing it for the second year in a row after going 5-7 and 4-8 made it impossible to sell next year to an apathetic fanbase. The same would have happened to Moorhead. The pissing celebration gave the admin talking points for cover. He was a fired *** as soon as he lost no matter how he lost. The entire fanbase celebrated that pissing celebration for 2 years. It was not embarrassing until it needed to be embarrassing to fire a ****** coach.

We just disagree then, I think he could've sold the team being very young and playing a lot of teams close this year had the lack of discipline not been so obvious. He would've been gone next year unless he somehow won six.

You're wrong about the 'entire' fanbase thing, but I think you know that.

Your Attendance next year was going to be Vandy level if Matt Luke was your coach. Your schedule sets up to start 2-5 or 2-6 and you have not been to a bowl game in 4 years. There was nothing to sell that anyone was actually going to buy and come watch. Your AD did what was best for the program and now you have a better coach that will sell tickets immediately. Had very little to do with anyone pissing in the endzone and a lot to do with how much money keeping Matt Luke was going to cost you long term. It also had a lot to do with your people hating to lose to State on top of being mediocre.

That's true but I still think the money wasnt there to fire him until the game became a national embarrassment. Whoever said that sort of thing really gets to OM fans was correct.

Mississippi fans are offended and want to make fun us for being obsessed while we have a beat writer show up from a paper in the state who asked a question on the introductory press conference about the rivalry? Then a article is written by our so called beat writer

My sincerest condolences for your international embarrassment.....I didn’t realize you cared so much.

I couldn't give a **** about whatever it is you're talking about, but if you think Luke's firing had more to do with us losing the Egg Bowl to a more talented team than the international embarrassment we incurred while doing it, I dont know what to tell you.

What’s the saying, “ Don’t want **** don’t stir ****”. The paper from Jackson sent 2 beat writers and ours asked a question about the rivalry. Just giving fuel to the fire from this paper. Asked by a Texas school fan covering us.

I didn’t read the article and won’t but there is no reason for a writer covering us to ask that question or even be there. He’s a fan of a Texas school there to get clicks and stir **** for a paper he’ll bent on making this rivalry more toxic than it already is.

The funny thing is I bet they didn’t screw up any headlines

No argument from me. I found his being there very odd. Especially considering that the CL Ole Miss beat writer was there, too.

Kiffin has coached in the SEC. He took shots at Florida immediately after being hired at Tennessee. He put up a billboard trashing UCLA after being hired at USC. He has probably grown up some since then but to suggest he does not know how big an instate rivalry in the SEC is just screams ignorance.

Not my intention. Just saying he’s coached in 3 iron bowls, and big USC/ND matchups, etc. My point is not to diminish MSU, I promise. It’s just that I doubt he realizes, YET, how big a game the Egg Bowl is. He will figure it out. Especially the first time he loses one. I doubt he’s thinking much about MSU today, but that will change, at some point. That’s all I’m saying.

Luke wasn’t fired because he lost the game, everyone with a brain assumed they were going to lose. It shouldn’t have even been close. Luke wasn’t fired because the kid pissed in the end zone, he probably knew it was going to happen prior to the game. All the players gathered around him waiting for him to do it. It was preplanned and likely openly discussed in the locker room. Luke was fired because the timing of the event embarrassed the bastion of self worth and image. Had the media not picked up on it due to the Egg Bowl being the only NCAA game on and it just been a few seconds on Sportscenter, Luke would still be coach at Ole Miss. All they care about is image because image is all they have left.

I don’t really think I could argue with much of this, to be honest.

Whether he should have been there at all is debatable. Point is if your boss tells you to go get a story you do it. The article he wrote was honestly pretty flattering to Ole Miss. the fact that they are the ones upset is mind blowing.
That’s my point. The paper wanted that **** to happen. Do you not seriously see the intention of a “State” guy asking that question instead of a Mississippi guy??
Wait for future headlines. They sell to their readers because they are fans.

I’m tired of reading about them
I’m tired of reading about how ****** our coach is
Can we please flip a recruit or fire someone already!?

If we played a basketball game more than once every 20 days we’d probably have something else to discuss. ***

Matt Luke was fired because the Egg Bowl was lost. His player did the exact same celebration 2 years ago and your entire fanbase sucked the guy’s dick. It was embarrassing because it cost you the game. No one in your fan base actually cares that the celebration is a 17’ing embarrassment on it’s own merit. It took losing the game while doing it to become embarrassing.

It revealed how shallow they actually are. They didn't apologize to those who it should have gone to (ie actually exhibiting class) but only for how bad it made them look. They apologized for doing it in the inconvenient moment of a loss.

The same was true in the firing of freeze. It wasn't for being unethical. It was for the embarrassment they got in not covering it up. For them it's not bad to be a bunch of snotty bitches. It becomes bad when they can't brag about it producing something important like a Top 10 recruiting Ranking. Oh, and winning football games is sometimes important as a side note.

They are predictable and know their image is antiquated. They desperately need Kiffin to win in a bad boy style to give them back the identity they pissed away. He may pull that off. Dollar to a doughnut says he doesn't.

You can be a beat writer and a very good one without being a fan.

Generally speaking being a fan of the team you cover is a negative in your ability to be a good beat writer (People like Joel T being the exception).

But people also don’t understand how journalism works.

Kiffin has them on this new level of douchiness. You would think they just hired away Lincoln Riley the way they are acting. Can’t wait to watch the reactions after they’re 1-6 or 2-5 at best starting the season next year with blowout losses to Baylor, Auburn, LSU, Bama, and Florida.

Things I learned from reading their boards last night....

1) The modern era of football started when John Vaught was hired at Ole Miss
2) LSU is their only true rival, we are not worthy, an afterthought
3) We should be treated just like they treated USM, it's worked great
4) They with Kiffin are about to leave us in the dust
5) MSU fans should be ignored
6) Oxford is the epicenter of class
7) Starkville is a hell hole
8) Only good thing about MSU, is Edam cheese and the weather women
9) The poster Vampire Reb is a total old douchebag
10 Ole Miss millienals are at the heart of their decline, they have to go, wait :)

Was the OM CL beat writer Nick Suss there? It was likely as simple as Horka filling in for Suss because Suss was sick or on vacation.

So let me ask you another question - do you think he gets fired if you commit the penalty, still make the XP and win the Egg Bowl? Because I don't think he does.

I dont know, you could ask the same question about having all this happen as it did in the Egg Bowl but instead, say, we beat Cal or Auburn (two games we were very close in). The answer ultimately, I think, depends on if the money was there to fire him and if enough people would have withheld giving had he remained, and I cant begin to answer that. Had he beaten Cal, AU, TAMU, or Mizzou perhaps, we are 5-7 and maybe sneak into a bowl. I don't think he gets fired then, even with how the Egg Bowl ended.

It's my guess that the money was raised in the days after the Egg Bowl embarrassment when we were getting dragged by everyone. I dont think Luke gets fired if the penalty doesn't happen and we then go for two and dont get it. I think how that game ended cost him next year.

This post proves that Ole Miss fans live in a fantasy world.

I’m assuming you’re referring to my post, which was mostly tongue in cheek. But, I sure as hell don’t know how college football will play out. If you do, you should be a multi-millionaire by now. Baylor could be a 6 or 11 win program. Same with Auburn. Florida will be damn good, but not unbeatable at home. My prediction would be 3-4 after 7 if I had to pick. I think they’ll slip up on one of Baylor, Auburn or Florida. But, I could be wrong, obviously.

I was really just aggravating the other poster who seems confident 2-5 after 7 is best case scenario. I get it, I’m sure he wants to be true, and it may be.

I get that you’ve just hired a new coach & you’re all giddy & optimistic. We were there 2 years ago. But you’re not beating Baylor, Auburn or Florida next year.

We will not be favored in any of those games but we were in Auburn territory down 6 in Jordan Hare. They will likely be beatable.

I am excited. No denying it. I think I can rationally look at the situation and see we have a ways to go, to get to anywhere close to an upper echelon SEC West program. But, you’re right, at the end of the day I am a fan. I think we can go 1-2 in those 3 games, but if I had to bet on 0-3 versus 2-1 I’d definitely take 0-3. At least I get to actually be excited this offseason versus not giving a ****, which is where I was previously. I get to look forward to Baylor in Houston, at least until kickoff. That alone is a win, I guess. And you know we love some inane, intangible victories in Oxford!
