Ole Miss loves to reference the all-time series record because that conceals the reality that in recent history the Egg Bowl has been a coin flip at best for the Rebels.

  • If you go back 10 years, State leads 6-4 (60%)
  • ...20 years, even 10-10
  • ...30 years, State leads 16-14 (53.3%)
  • You have to go back 35 years to 1985 to find an Ole Miss advantage, 17-18 (48.6%)

I wasn't alive in 1985. How many of you remember the 1985 Egg Bowl?

I wasn't alive either. The all time series is all they've got to feel good about now. Funny thing is, most of the om fans I know weren't around when om was winning. They brag about something they've never experienced or even seen.

I remember all the Egg Bowls from 71 to now. And all the 17n losses to Brewer in particular sucked black bear a$$. Throw in the losses to punks like Tub, Nutts, and Freeze and we got a lot of paying back to do.

Well in all fairness, the actual turn occurred when the games were moved back to campus. And obviously, when there were only white players in the SEC, and no limit to scholarship signings, John Vaught and Bear Bryant dominated because they would both sign players just to keep their opponents from getting them. So Ole Miss’s real claim to winning success over MSU, was attached to the time of “whites only allowed” at SEC institutions.

Vaught alone was 17-1-1 against State. We also have 3 forfeits to the confederates, whereas they only had to vacate a couple of wins over us, that still count as losses on our record.

Like I said in another thread prior 1970 doesn't even count we weren't trying(

Cheating) and they were cheating like hell with swimming scholarships and scheduling that was setup just to make sure they were always considered a top team bases on W's.
The system since 1970 forward is the only thing relevant at this point and we have dominated them in baseball and basketball so any talk of them being better than us is an
illusion in their own minds.

I remember 85 only because we jumped out to a 2 TD lead then got absolutely destroyed. Also seems like it was one of the few 80's Egg Bowls that wasn't played in an Indian monsoon.

I was a sophomore at State in 85. If your mom was there at that time, you might want to hold off on any of that DNA testing advertised on TV.

I member. Bellard put the finishing touches on an 0-6 conference record after guaranteeing a conference championship prior to the season. “In a red dog minute!”

From 1948 to about 1968 our admin could not have cared less about the football team. Surprised we didn't leave like GT or Tulane.

In Bellard's defense...

I member. Bellard put the finishing touches on an 0-6 conference record after guaranteeing a conference championship prior to the season. “In a red dog minute!”

I was at an alumni gathering in Memphis where Bellard said that we (MSU) had knocked on the door to the SEC championship, and that this year we were going to knock it down. After his talk he mingled with the crows. I heard one of the cigar boys (that's what I took him to be) tell Bellard that he hoped that when Bellard was standing in the line at the grocery store that he (Bellard) didn't have to eat his words.

Bellard replied that if we didn't win it that he didn't expect he'd be around anyway.

He was just trying to fire-up the fan base. He was an entertaining speaker, And a fine coach when he had the talent.

Freshman. Emory Bellard's last season-- and since it was his last season, Ole Miss obviously won that game.

Modern College Football History has to start when the SEC split into divisions for the 1992 season. Any discussion of college football prior to integration of the SEC is about as relevant as Spain talking about their naval military might because they had an Armada prior to 1588.

Is 1992 when

the schedule was balanced? Ole Miss just didn't bother to play Bama for I'm not sure how many years. That couldn't happen after 1992 so to me, that's when the playing field was evened. It's no coincidence that our athletic program from 1992 to now has been heads and shoulders above theirs. There's literally nothing they've done that we haven't done more frequently and better.

Football wins? We have more
Football conference wins? We have more
Egg Bowl wins? We have more
Bowl appearances? We have more
Bowl wins? We have more
Weeks ranked? We have more
Seasons finished in top 25? We have more
Football Division Titles? We have more
Being ranked #1? We've done that, they haven't

MBK wins? We have more
MBK conference wins? We have more
MBK series with Ole Miss? We're ahead
MBK SEC Titles? We have one, they don't
MBK SEC Tourney Titles? We have more
NCAA Appearances? We have more
Sweet 16 Appearances? We have more
Final Four Appearances? We have more
Seasons finished in the top 25? We have more
All the above is true for Women's Basketball as well

Baseball wins? We have more
Baseball conference wins? We have more
Baseball series with Ole Miss? We're ahead
SEC Regular Season Titles? We have more
SEC Tournament Titles? We have more
Regional Appearances and Wins? We have more of both
Super Regional Appearances and Wins? We have more of both
CWS Appearances? We have more
CWS Final Series Appearances? We've been, they haven't

Sorry to make you read through all that but it highlights the fact that there is not one objective measure where you can say that Ole Miss is better than us in athletics.

You're absolutely right. But it sure would be nice to have a Sugar Bowl trophy. Or 2 Cotton Bowl trophies.

Unfortunately, it was discovered that DeShea Townsend is not a DC in our Orange bowl

My first Egg Bowl was 1981. I won’t remind y’all what happened that year but that one should be a win for us. Absolute bs.

MSU 17 OM 14 Refs 7 - Watched from nose bleed endzone in Jackson. The most phantom pass interference call to decide an MSU game I have ever seen

I thought we got down 38-7 in this one, and scored some garbage TDs late to make it 45-27. Nevertheless, it was bad.

Remember the 1985 Egg bowl? Hell I go back a lot further than that. Mid 70's for me.

Much like DoggieDaddy13, I remember every Egg Bowl since 1974. I just so happened to be in attendance for the 85 Egg Bowl. It was in Jackson and the last one I believe I have attended. We got our *** smooth kicked that day. As I remember it, we scored first to go up 7-0, and they reeled off 38 unanswered. Bellards last year before ushering in the Felker era...UGH! I just threw up a little.
