Very candid interview about Croomhead. My respect for him went way up. Even the show mods were tipping their hats for his honesty.

He basically said Moorhead needed to win the Eggbowl or at least look like an organized team ready to play a football game. He also said that the administration was much more concerned about the direction of the program than just winning a (Eggbowl) game. I don't want to try to quote him too much and end up misquoting him but the bottom line that I got that was if he loses the EB (or even looks ****** winning)....he gone. He was very blunt and I appreciated that.

I caught the part about he needed to win the EB to save his job. Not sure if this guy knows for sure tho.

So “looking like an organized team ready to play a football game” in the egg bowl saves his job? More often than not we have looked unorganized and not ready to play.

If “looking organized and ready to play” in the egg bowl trumps all of the other games that we didn’t looked “organized and ready”, we are screwed as a program and as MSU supporters.

I think he was hedging himself a bit but what he never said was that an EB win saves his job either. Some guys on ED heard it also and there summary is better than mine. Pointed out that a month ago Murray was adamant that he would be here next year regardless....now he's done a 180. It made me suspect there is a lot more stuff going on behind the scenes than we thought.

I was a huge supporter going into the year of giving him this year. And even after a few losses I still felt it was possible for him to get things going but my biggest issue and I may have posted here but definitely discussed with friends is our inability to play with effort from the get go.
We recruit Ms kids who have always been dominant in high school. Most never had to practice much less play hard in games. These players are talented but they have to be held to a standard that their playing time is dictated by effort and heart. These are not issues we should be having 11 games into the season.
While I agree that all aspects of the game have struggled I truly believe this has been caused by coaching talented players soft. All it takes is a couple players and sometimes just 1 taking a play off.
Guess I expect more from our staff having them ready but I do remember posting at some point in time you shouldn’t have to coach a player to get motivated playing SEC football. With all that being said I honestly don’t believe he can accomplish this with himself and the staff in place.

Last I’ll say because I do tend to ramble but in the thread about women’s basketball, Vic called his team out or no one ever notices after a 40 point win. That is the difference in these 2 staffs. One holds players accountable the other tries to work with the effort he gets. That ain’t working in DIII so how does he think it will work in the SEC. my problem is I know this ain’t fixable this year and I seriously doubting if he is capable of holding these players accountable next year.
Lastly you notice how after a coaching change you have a good bit of attrition when a new staff comes aboard? In most cases players are held to a higher standard. Can this staff change our standard next year?? I’m doubting it!

Also screw the pick and choose NCAA punishment, sit them 8 straight or all 12 but that has got to be a chemistry killer in the locker room.

He said something along the same lines on a thread on Genespage. I don’t want to misquote him but he basically said Moorhead doesn’t want to lose the egg bowl and than John Cohen has been exploring all possibilities

Bingo... I really hope it's not just the egg bowl that his job is on the line of.. This team, I hate to say, has never been organized and ready to play on 90% of the games he's been here.. It's disgusting to watch to be a 40 plus year fan.....

I heard the interview, and it seems to me that what he explained is the only logical way for the higher ups in the athletic dept. to view this situation. There is too much at stake ($) to continue down this path. People that say he will be the coach here next year no matter what are wrong. He is coaching for his job these next two weeks.

Yep and the unfair part about this is he's coaching against 2 of the 3 weakest teams on our schedule.

Anyone who has two eyes can see this team is a cluster17. Regardless of EB win or not, this staff has shown incapable since Kentucky 2018. It snowballed and just became more clear as the games added up.

Egg Bowl? He needs to worry about Abilene, they are probably licking their chops after reviewing our game films. **

I agree the ten players screwed the team, university, coaches and fans. I would have rather seen a coach call em into the office and tell them you all get to set for the next 8 games but the good news is your going to be in better shape than any 10 players on the team cause your *** is about to work harder than anybody has ever 17n worked ever and if you're not prepared to to do that then there's the door.

This. After the Arkansas win he said Moorhead saved his job. He doesnt know a damn thing. Least informed writer on the beat

To be fair, I think he did save it that day. Not to say he still couldn't lose it, but had we lost in Fayetteville he would be gone for sure.

All those guys at 247 are now saying that all bets are off if we lose in the Egg Bowl. That is completely different from a few weeks ago.

Abilene probably watched 5 minutes of us and came up with this detailed gameplan:

1. Run the ball
2. Stop Kylin Hill
3. Score 2 or more TDs
4. Put kick returner at 40.
5. Win the game.

He'll be retained if State makes a bowl game. Nevertheless he'll be informed of needed staff changes. If he refuses, then all bets off the table and he could be gone. He may be gone anyway if his agent finds a landing place and he leaves on his own.

I'm afraid you're right and although I ought to be conditioned to this crap after all these years, what a 17ed up position for us to be in.

The Kentucky 2018 game was the one that put me onboard the Doubter Train. We lost thanks to pre-snap and post-whistle penalties that killed drives and prevented our defense from getting off the field. It was the sort of game I felt like a coach with a lot of fire in his character could have won with an on-field *** chewing and a halftime locker room paint-peeler. All we lacked to win the game was focus, and we never came close to finding it.

Everything since then has felt like a continuing divergence from the path. We're so far off the trail in the heart of Mirkwood now, I don't believe there's any hope of finding our way back. Better to start a new quest with another group.

He won't be the coach in 2021. That ship has sailed. He'll either bolt for a better fit (like Rutgers or similar) or he'll be canned. I hope he bolts because that means we turned it around a little bit and I'd always rather see us win than bottom out.

https://www.thezone1059.com/jake-wimberly-ondemand/

here is the link to wimberly's on demand. it's the second one.

from what i'm listening to it's still very much up in the air like if we play well and on fire and still lose that they will still bring him back which i think is a mistake considering how that would be outside of the norm. basing the decision of moorhead one game is a mistake. it should be the whole body of work to this point.

it sounds similar to what cohen said a few weeks ago on finebaum about being competent and how you play the game which is odd. it just sounds a little more geared now to that competitiveness not being there as when to cohen said it on finebaum he made it sound like we were being competitive.
