That's what, 40% increase in the last 12 months? Won't be cheaper than cable for much longer at this rate. I assume youtube tv price increase won't be far behind.

May be time to see what specials comcast is running for the next 24 months.

The whole streaming model is starting to really decline from an appeal standpoint. I’m thinking of just doing Google Fiber TV as opposed to any of the streamlng services. Can get it for $90 per month, but its way more channels than any of the streaming companies, and I have pretty good assurance the price will stay where its at. Add **** channels and increase price by a disproportionate amount has become the standard operating procedure for all these companies. Before long you’re looking at maybe a $10-$15 savings vs. Cable / Satellite, which really isn’t worth it for compressed content streams and an inferior interface.

Just got the email. I’ll be cancelling after college football anyway. I can catch the basketball games on watchESPN; I’ll just miss being able to DVR them

I’ve decided I’m going to do away with tv after football. Pluto tv is a game changer for me

The discounted streaming was always going to be short lived once a lot of people got on board. Somebody has to actually pay for the content that is produced. When streaming services were a small part of the market, they could get good deals and people willing to cut the cord could save money. Now that it's becoming a significant part of the market, content providers can no longer sell to streamers at a discount because it undermines their ability to extract value from the cable and satellite companies.

The benefit to streaming is going to be that some people with very narrow tastes will be able to save money by buying a la carte over buying a cable or satellite package.

You wont be able to DVR them, but the games are available to replay right after they end. Pretty much a difference without distinction.

What I don’t understand is why I have to pay a minimum of $50 something / month (minimum) for the ESPN family of networks. ESPN represents something like $8.00 on a standard cable bill? Cool. I’ll pay twice that for just those channels on a direct streaming platform. ESPN can cut out the middle man and go straight to the end user a lot more efficiently than they can by continuously hitching themselves to these providers only, and likely gain back a lot of lost revenue from the cord cutters. It’s worked out pretty well for HBO. I could easily get every channel or show I needed with a standalone ESPN subscription, Netflix, Amazon Prime TV (which is free with Prime membership) and perhaps HBO Now. That’s $30-$45 per month over the long haul, less than half of what I would pay for all the same content from the streaming companies or cable.

It was a less risky move for HBO. HBO was already offered pretty much as a stand alone channel on cable and satellite. It was pretty much a straight pass through with a markup for HBO channels. With ESPN channels being bundled, I am guessing they don't really know how it will shake out if they offer a stand alone streaming service. And because ESPN has probably overpaid for a lot of its content, they can't afford to take that risk and be wrong.

My 2 year deal with Comcast cable is about to end. If they won't extend for another year or 2 at a similar price, I will probably drop and just go bare bones with Pluto and maybe Netflix. It used to be if you drop cable for 4 months then you got the new customer rate when subscribing again. Not sure if that is still true but if so....I can play the game.

Even at $55 I'd be paying less than I did to Comcast and wouldn't have to help funding all those ******** Home Shopping, screaming Baptist preacher, screaming Spanish preacher, free music, infomercial, sailing, travel and soccer type channels I NEVER watched but had to help pay for.

However, once I actually cut the cord I found out I didn't want to watch much of anything anymore so I make out now w/ local channels via an antenna, regular Hulu for ~$12 and all the free channels on myRoku's. I subscribed to Sling strictly for ESPN but once the regular college season is over I'm out of there too cause the bowl games aren't worth a damn anymore anyway.

So what happened with Disney+ on launch day...

Imagine if a stand alone ESPN app were the only place available for college football or Monday Night Football.

Not sure what are best options. I live in a remote area and have a great local cable company but Tennis Channel is an absolute must and they do not carry it.
A shame as they are also the internet provider and would be nice to bundle. Their pricing was always reasonable and no "games" to get best deal. Ended up with DirecTV Now (ATT) at $45/month and quickly went to about $60/month. Use Apple TV for interface and it is good but hate the remote. Watching TV should not be as hard as it is.
Just give me a good remote and reliable content and recording. fyi, recording on ATT TV is awful. records thing you did not request. records parts of shows sometime even if you had double checked the length of the show and available space. About the only good thing I can say about it is that if you have a weekend place you have portability that works exactly like home. Of course I am open to suggestions.

Just dropped Uverse last month and signed up for Hulu. Haven't been unhappy with Hulu, but pissed the price has already gone up. Guess I will contact Xfinity now and see what kind of deal they have.

The writing was on the wall for the streaming services to start going up. They see the demand sky rocketing.
