OM signing 5* WBK players?

I saw the tweets saying that OM has the best WBK class in the SEC and had signed 2 five star girls. But I know nothing more.

Did Vic have any interest?

Funny how things have changed... 3 years ago OM fans were clamoring about how “it’s just womens basketball” when we were getting rolling. Now they are having to change their shorts when they get a couple 5* and are saying they are going to compete with Vic.

Vic signed a 5* and a 4* in this class. We were going to have a small class due to us only losing 1 player next year.

This is probably fair for a large portion of the fan base. But, I still don’t care about it. And it’s just because I just am not entertained watching it. I think it’s cool how State’s fan base has embraced it, and hope Ole Miss does the same. I just won’t be one of them. I think it’s cool that the OM girls coach signed two 5-stars, I won’t pretend I didn’t notice it or care at all about it. But, I’d personally trade both 5-stars for a good 3 star placekicker.

I’m not going to let myself get emotionally invested in another sport that will just eventually let me down.

We did not really recruit Bracey, the five star from Ruleville. The 5 star from Maryland was a very good signing though. I think we are more than content with who we got, though.

One would think that if the State of MS had a 5 star recruit in any sport that we would go after her. As far as scholarships, didn’t Breamber enter the portal?

So, there was a 5* in the Ms Delta and we didn’t offer? Are we already loaded at the position she plays? Tell us more please.

The young lady from Ruleville has been a verbal commit to Ole Miss for several years.

The girl from Maryland did not have offers from any top schools. So that should tell you something. Some speculate that is due to attitude problems.

The SEC did not get any of the really top players this year. We and South Carolina made our hauls last year, and we also got Sidney Cooks as a transfer. She was the #5 recruit her year and a McDonald's All American.

My understanding is that we signed the number 25 player in the country that was at this position, so we did not pursue the one from Ruleville. Very good sign for Ole Miss though, no doubt about it.

The Bears must be cheating in girls basketball, again. No other reason that anyone would allow their children to go there. They are either still on probation or just recently off of probation in that sport so they better be careful. They just can’t help themselves. Any time that we have some success it just drives them over the edge.it must be hell inside their heads. 😜

I dont think the girl had any offers from big schools. That tells me she is a talent with some baggage. Attitude issues, injury risk etc.

The guard we signed was player of the year in Tennessee and rated the 29th best player in the class of 2020. The guard from Ruleville was rated 48th best player in the class. Anyone who has watched our first two games this season knows we are loaded at guard and all of them will be back next year. The forward for Pearland, TX Vic signed yesterday was rated the #1 player in the class of 2020 after her freshman season, got hurt and missed all of her sophomore year. As a result, she dropped down to barely in the top 100. Vic thinks she may still be the best player in the class.

Neither of Ole Miss' signees had offers from any of the elite WBB programs. It also appears Vic never offered Bracey, the girl from the Delta. But, still a good get for Coach Yo considering where they are with their program.

This is a fair assessment. I want MSU to succeed at every sport, but ultimately the MSU fan base has gravitated towards WBB because we haven't been just 'pretty good', but elite the last 5 years or so. If Schaefer leaves, or MSU WBB drops from a consistent top 10 team to a bubble NCAAT team, the fan support will decrease dramatically.

WBB is a completely different animal than MBB. MSU struck gold with Schaefer (who is a great ambassador for MSU), invested time & money into the program which is essentially all you have to do to be successful in WBB. A good portion of athletic departments don't provide the attention to detail or invest in their WBB program like we have. This is why the gap between the top 20 WBB teams & mid-majors or bottom p5 teams is much wider than in MBB. You see our women hammering lesser teams consistently because that's the nature of the sport. In contrast, our men's team has to play very well against mid-majors and average teams to win because the margin for error in MBB is razor thin. I believe this has caused somewhat of a disconnect in our fanbase (along with many other reasons) from MBB and focused more on WBB.

This is really well said. Great post.

Obviously not all 5 stars are created equal. Jessika Carter and Daphane White were similarly ranked coming out of HS. One is now starting at MSU and the other at MGCC.

Time will tell on the Ole Miss class, but I do think their coach is a good one.

Disagree with your premise on why there's such a big dispararity in WBK. The reason there's a big disparity is there's simply not that many elite or even great WBK players. There's the elite players, then a massive drop off, then you have some good players then the rest are just bodies out there playing. Most women focus on other things other than playing sports. I think we know what they are.

It's the same way with male models.

poor eddie munster. probably selling hotdogs somewhere.

That’s really, really funny. I’d never heard that comparison, but holy hell is it spot on. I’ll smile now every time I think about him looking like Eddie Munster.
