If he gets to 6 and that’s still a big if, I think that will become or new normal struggling to get to 6. Our best years will be 8 win tops and 5-6 will be normal. Not Croom bad but worse than Mullen.

This getting to 6-6 is great and all but does Joe want to be here next year? That's the real question.

Joe probably thinks 6-6 this year was a pretty good finish with the suspensions, injuries, and youth. He's staying a getting errbodys ring size for next years championship run.

He’s not getting to 6-6. Both UA-T and Mississippi are going to curb stomp us.
IF. Ole Miss loses tonight, they ain’t beating LSU, which means they will have at least 7 losses going into the Egg Bowl.

They will play with tempered emotion because they will actually have nothing to play for....aGAIN!

Giving Dan a drop grade for 2010 he averaged 7.4 regular season wins from 2011 to 2017. Adding in bowl wins we averaged 8 wins on the money. Dan was at or 1 game + .500 every other year save a back to back 10 & 9 win seasons with Dak. I don’t get why we continue to have to act like his tenure was something that it wasn’t. He was up and down and the best then the worst then our yankee then **** Dan Melvin fast enough to make your head spin. Now he’s the idyllic visage of yesteryear where we could hold our heads up high in Bulldog solidarity.

Is there any possibility Moorhead is auditioning for the Rutgers job, i.e. in his own head?

No.Me and my family are extremely happy in Starkville, Ms. and love being a part of the Bulldog Family. We are working to get these seniors another Bowl trip and get extra practices for the young players. We will go watch film tomorrow and give the team a few days off before we start preparing to play #2 Alabama. We are looking forward to the challenge ahead of us and expect a sell out crowd in Davis-Wade in 2 weeks. We haven’t even thought about the Egg Bowl because we have two tough opponents before that game. Still a lot of football to play but I like the way our guys are playing hard and competing and we will get better.

Thanks and Hail State!

They'll be pretty motivated to keep us from going to a bowl (assuming, of course, we beat Abilene Christian).

I mean... would y’all have preferred we lost today or that we lose the Egg Bowl? I’ve been frustrated with him too but come on. Let’s not act like 6-6 is the end of the world. It can always be worse, just look at our opponent today. Ole Miss is about to miss a bowl game for the 4th straight year.

I’m skeptical that he’s here past next season, but I’m willing to cut him a little bit of slack on some things this year and will be rooting for him to be successful next year.

Makes sense you would say that. You like watching linemen pass block on running plays because if they road grade they are ineligible. Maybe the **** makes sense somewhere but not here and not in the sec west. Feel good, we arent the worst yet,, Arkansas lost to our Maine this year. You may want to lower your expectations just a little more next year if this regime stays.

It's going to be tough to make a bowl next year as well. The offense will struggle in the passing game, and the defense may not be much better.

Disagree. Next year is an even year, when we always have our strongest chances of success. Our auto losses to LSU and Bama will be on the road, all swing games (Ark, A&M, Auburn, Mizzou) except Egg Bowl at home. UK, who will be bad again, on the road (winnable).

Go back and look at our program from 2009 through now. Only 2 of 6 odd numbered years resulted in more than 6 regular season wins (2015, 2017). 4 of 5 even-numbered years resulted in 8 or more regular season wins (2016 being the only exception).

Yes, the even years are easier. But this isn't Mullen's offense anymore either.

Agreed, but its not Croom’s either. We’ll have a much easier time making a bowl next year than this year, and we’re still very much in the hunt for one this season. Ark / A&M / Mizzou / Auburn all at home. Win 3 of those 4, take the 3 NC patsies, then find one more between @UK, @OM, and @NC State and we are an easy 7-5. A lot of margin for error in that schedule, and also room to get an inside straight to 8-4 / 9-3.. Bottom line, if Joe wins on Thanksgiving, there is a very strong chance he’s still here through the end of 2021.

Well, you’re welcome to start yelling Hotty Toddy any time. That future sounds way worse to me personally, but you do you. He loses that one, all bets are off. He wins and Rutgers comes calling (which I think is pretty unlikely at this point), thats another way out. But I don’t think him or anyone else would have trouble getting 6 or 7 wins with next year’s team and schedule, provided that the roster stays relatively intact (by that, I mean no QB transfers).

If Moorhead stays and still can’t get a bowl next year, obviously you fire him. The decision making criteria is pretty set in stone for every eventuality after Thanksgiving, if wins and stays. Him losing to OM would really disturb the masses, and I’m not sure which way it would shake out honestly.

No offense but if the “easy 7-5” you mention includes complete unpreparedness in blowout losses to Bama, LSU, Texas A&M, & Auburn, where we start the game with false start and delay of game penalties I think I’ll pass. Two more years of what we’ve seen the last 21 games sounds absolutely awful.

You can “pass” all you want to, I probably wouldn’t be all that excited about it either. That said, Mississippi State University is not ever going to fire a football coach following a winning season, barring a major character issue / scandal or NCAA situation. That’s just the facts.

“I know“, he sighed, acknowledging the bleak future that awaited them all.

Do you know how many SEC West teams run RPOs, where the linemen have to be careful not to go downfield too early?

All of them.

Well, maybe not Auburn very often. They prefer to just run.

Anyway, RPOs are not the problem here. The problem is a coach who either is not getting through to his players, or is telling them the wrong things. Maybe both.

Uh he’d be right.

Not really. 6-6 is going chalk. And going chalk in 4 games where we have a big advantage in 3 games and are completely outclassed in 1. Beating Ole Miss only seems like a step in the right direction b/c we have turned so ******, so fast, that people have adjusted their expectations downward.

We have problems at DL and Dan left us short of playmakers in general on defense, but we're still decent on defense when everybody is playing and we still have good offensive talent. You give us a good offensive coach and an offense that fits us and this offense would be difficult for non-elite defenses to handle, although we still probably lack the WR talent to be effective against elite defenses. Moorhead basically missed his opportunities to impress this year. All he can do is disappoint from this point forward unless our offense actually has a pulse against Bama before garbage time.

The only thing I can think of that might be realistic that would show some improvement by this coaching staff is if we could finish up the season without having a presnap penalty on our opening offensive play. Going three games without starting off with a presnap penalty on our opening offensive possession would potentially show that he is getting better at preparing the team to play, which is sort of disgusting to think about, but that's where we are.
