If we win this game, how many of you think that this might be a turning point or nothing changes your mind about Joe.. My two cents say it won't matter if we win by three td's. ARK is a cellar all around team and I
m so tired of this ,,, were getting better smooth talk from Joe with his awesome offence mind.. I want so bad to have a coach NEXT year with grit and pass the right way and pound the ball all game long...

Bill Clark could move to the top of the list with a win over Tennessee this weekend.

Norvell should be getting some looks too.

Why do people think Hud is so damn good. I, for one, hope he never comes back in any capacity.
Because he IS good. My evidence:

1) He brought UNA back to prominence after they fell off a cliff. That proves he knows Xs and Os.
2) He helped engineer some good offense out of nearly nothing for us in 2009 and 2010.
3) Look at our offense last year when he was near, and this year now that he's gone - seems he was the common sense part of the equation.
4) Four straight 8-4 seasons and bowl games at ULL, who had went 3-9, 6-6, 6-6, 3-9 before he got there and had never really won much of anything.
5) He's an MSU guy and understands exactly what we are.
6) His temperament is very similar to Mullen's, which is what we need for discipline/fundamentals in the program (this is why they butted heads).
7) He knows the Louisiana, East Texas and Alabama recruiting landscape, and now Tennessee.
8) He is a great recruiter, as evidenced by the decommitments we had when he left, and what recruits say about him.
9) The big boys were all on board with hiring him back in the day. Many wanted to hire him to replace Croom to begin with.
10) He's winning at Austin Peay.

Literally the only piece of evidence against him is the NCAA stuff, in which he was not even punished. All things considered, I think he weathered that storm very well because he still went 6-6 and 5-7 at the end. He obviously recruited well because Napier came in and didn't drop off the cliff his first two years.

This would be a home run hire for us. And he'd stay here. It's where he wants to be, and we're going to let someones else get him.

Maybe if Moorhead goes 6-6 and gets another year, and Hud has another winning season, maybe that will change some people's minds about him when we go 3-9 next year and are 100% coach shopping again.

Good lord, I hope Cohen's smart enough to have told him we're not interested. SEC defenses would shut his offense down like they do Moorhead's, but we'd give up 20 more points per game.

Bill Clark has a $9 million buyout. Scratch him off your damned list.

No it’s not. Per USA Today it’s $7,012,500 as of 12-1-19. He signed his new deal last November so that may be when the buyout drops per year but don’t have info on the exact date of the drop.

$7m is still surprising. Hard to imagine a coach would sign a contract that requires $7m for him to take another job. Clark must really like living in Bham.

Pathetic we will "be showing signs of improvement" by being able to win a road game at ARK.

That looks to be close the total amount of the contract, so that is not out of line with other contracts. He will make between $1.45-1.65 MIL per year for 5 years. And it may be a pretty high number the first year or two of the deal...don’t know contract details are not available

I'm no Norvell apologist, but I don't know how you can say this. I mean, SEC defenses would shut down his current offense and score on his current defense, but he's not recruiting a whole lot of SEC players right now, either. He would have SEC players here. All he'd have to do is make the right DC hire. His run-heavy offense would actually be a pretty good fit here if he found the right QB to run it.

Why? That sounds like an Arkansas fan saying the ship has sailed on Gus Malzahn. That's crazy.

I can’t say it’s sailed forever but he has to win without cutting corners. Either multiple years winning really big at the FCS level or parlay Austin Peay into a G5 gig and win there as well.

Yes I know he wasn’t “named” in the NCAA deal at ULL but I also know that he (and coaches all around the state in HS, JUCO and colleges) knew what Saunders was about and how he “handled” things. Saunders wasn’t an unknown wolf, he was very well known with how he did things. The very same reason Boone refused to hire him for an on the field position. And Hud absolutely knew who he was hiring and was warned by many not to bring him on board.

It could greatly solidify his ultimate demise considerably if we lose. Arky is so bad this is a game like the USM games of the 80s. Nothing to gain and everything to lose. Win and big deal, you are supposed to win. Lose and the biggest data point thus far has been recorded that screams, 'Joe gotta go'.

It's not improvement in my eyes. It's just a reality EVERY win is precious under this regime and I don't take wins for granted. I didn't under Dan, but now every win means more. We've lost like 5 of 6 games and haven't really been competitive. It's like I'm watching Croom coach a team with 7-5 or 8-4 type talent.

Good post. Games like this provide no upside for Joe and likewise for Dan. Any game you should win only has downside and that's if you lose.

Moorhead has nothing to win in this game and everything to lose.

At this point, what would a win prove? He has a team on par with San Jose St? That he was more prepared than Portland State or Colorado State?

It’s just like the Tennessee game. Best case scenario coming out of that was that you proved yourself to be as good as Georgia State and BYU and better than UT-Chattanooga. Nothing to gain, everything to lose.

So, no, I don’t think a win that puts Mississippi State on par or above the prestigious G5 and FCS schools listed above buys him any credibility.

If we were to lose this game, which I don't think we will, there would be no recovery for Joe. There is no scenario where you keep him after that. Winning in a blowout does nothing. I'm sure the quislings on Facebook will think it's a major accomplishment but anybody with an ounce of football knowledge knows it's not.

This is a little naive. I'm not saying Hud should be the guy, but there is no coach out there winning that is not cutting corners. He made a mistake getting too close to Saunders, but lots of schools were using Saunders' services or similar things.

Hud has a good track record. If there is not any NCAA stink on him, we could do much worse. I would be very tempted by his record as a head coach if the alternative is going with another coordinator. Two terrible hires in a row would be disastrous for us, and I think there is a very low probability Hud would be terrible.

Why is that? I get him not being an exciting hire for head coach, and people thinking we can do better, but he's basically won everywhere he's been. And we seem to generally have looked better on offense when he is here, whether that's luck or actually do to his input. The only blemish is that things fell apart on him at ULL, but that's typically what happens when there is an NCAA investigation.

If he beats Tenn this weekend he will climb to the top of my list. I think he has feasted on **** competition.

I have no candidate throw up there and won't until we are actually looking. We have no idea who or what might be available by the end of this season or the next.

What Hud brings to the table is that he is the only guy in contention who has truly gotten it done at multiple places and levels (except HC in Power 5). He excelled in DII at North Alabama, D1 FBS at ULL, and DI FCS now at APSU. That counts for something. Norvell and Clark still have that “hot upcoming guy” vibe, but neither has had an extended run of success outside their current location. Moorhead was the same, where he only had success one place, and not at the highest level.

Hud has also excelled as an offensive coordinator for.....wait for it....US.

ETA: Bumphis is also his WR coach.

Uh, Hud was not ever our OC. You can church it up that passing game coordinator means he had some involvement, but the only true OC’s we’ve had for the past decade are Joe Moorhead and Dan Mullen.

Uh, the point stands. You will argue with a brick wall. I don't care what stupid name they give it to sound innovative.

Offense was better under Hud, considering the personnel. Moorhead is a good playcaller, but Mullen is not. Neither matters. I'm convinced that the few games last year that we did have a decent gameplan, Hud was the one who made Moorhead do it.

Wow. Please call a doctor if your Hudspeth boner lasts longer than 4 hours.

He’s a decent coach and probably a nice enough guy....I’ve already said as much. But let’s not just make **** up here.

I think that Joe has generated too much bad faith for one win vs. a ****** team to move the needle. As plenty have said, if he goes 3-1 down the stretch then I think that all things considered the 2019 season shouldn’t be held against him. I wouldn’t say it’s a success unless we somehow blowout the three wins and win the bowl game convincingly.
