Maybe we are going about this the wrong way.

Instead of Wealthy Alumni donating to the University, maybe they need to co-oping to bring a Target to Starkville.

But seriously, has anyone thought of forming a consortium between MSU Donors and Oktibbeha/Starkville Leaders to get some fast moving developments to bring in higher end shopping and restaurants around the perimeter of the University and not just on University Drive? In the 12 by-pass the newest businesses are a Car Dealership and a Walmart Neighborhood Market. Wowsers! Way to step out there and bring some new shopping opportunities!

Target has the best shopping carts, bar none!! Light (all plastic) and do not rust.

I've heard the mayor talk several times about the on-going efforts to attract "higher end shopping and restaurants" but the issue, plain and simple, is that we don't have the population density for something like Target.

It's just one reason I think Starkville, Columbus and West Point should all be making a concerted effort to grow towards each other and not away from each other.

I don't know as much about Columbus or West Point but Starkville seems to be pushing west along Hwy 12.
They literally just annexed the area immediately east of campus.
Also, for those that don't know, campus is not in city limits.

Target isn’t exactly humming on all cylinders. It’s just like all the other retail stores trying to figure out how to compete with online shopping trends.

That annexation hasn't happened yet, and property owners in that area are suing to stop it.

That's nothing. You're talking about a half a mile.

Trust me, Starkville/West Point/Columbus are working together about as well as you can do it. The Counties too.

And damn good soft pretzels. Only better one I’ve ever had was at a German restaurant in hot springs

In all honesty, does Starkville have the population/demographics period? I feel like we keep trying to develop Starkville in our heads based on 6-7 weekends out of the year, and the reality for the rest of the time is that the general population probably isn’t going anywhere other than Walmart and Popeyes

Aldi's is pretty unique, but I would love to see Wegmans expand into the golden triangle.
