So I wake up and see people complaining over Pruitt's tug of a player's facemask. Really people? I wouldn't want any harm to come to a player, but I wish our coach would show some of that fire.

Why are people upset by this? Zero chance this injures the player. People are too soft these days.

Not much to it at all but people being outraged by that is to be expected nowadays. Ridiculous though.

People that have these “problems” don’t have a clue what goes on during a FB game. Nut shots, punches to the stomach, stepping on hands, bending figures back, etc. Their little snowflake minds would melt.

The first comment I see, "but you grab my kids facemask and I’m swinging on sight."

I love how stuff like this bring out the hypocrites. Have you ever seen the movie Idiocracy? Soon it will be based on a true story. GOOD LORD it was a tug on his face mask!! It's not like he shoved him into a pit of rattlesnakes.

I don't know what experience you 17ers have, but I had a coach for 2 years that looked like he could been playing middle linebacker in college still and he use to pick me and many others up off the ground out of piles by our face mask telling us to get our sorry asses off the grass. Sometimes you gotta get peoples attention.

If this is the "snowflake generation" does that make the boomers the "enabler generation" because turning a blind eye to warning signs is how you get Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State, Bobby Knight type situations and on and on and on....

Good question. Not my quote and not my opinion

My dad would have said, "My mom used to do worse than that getting me out of bed in the morning."

Pruitt's frustration at a 14-point swing is certainly understandable. He probably felt like jerking the helmet off and punching him ... then there would be room for criticism.

If I recall correctly, Woody punched a guy on the other team. I was watching the game at the time.

Good Lord help us. Coaches have been grabbing players by face masks since they first added face masks to the helmet. I had several coaches who did it over the years that I played. If they really wanted to get your attention, they grabbed you by the face mask and pulled you in close to them so they could get right in your face. To me, the worst thing about it was not the face mask grabbing-it was that they would pull you in so close to them that you could smell their breath. Damn, I hated that.

We’ve reduced the game of football to something just slightly more violent than a pillow fight. The flags for “unnecessary roughness”, “targeting”, etc. are designed to protect players from serious injury-I get that. However, over the weekend I saw a number of calls for those things that didn’t seem to rise to the occasion of unnecessary roughness. They were hard hits, but the players in several cases shouldn’t have been flagged for anything. This helmet grab thing falls under the same category, which is an overreaction.

Pruitt is a hayseed, or at least that’s the way he comes off. I’m sure he played for coaches who grabbed players by their face masks. The worst thing he did was to grab the kid on the sideline in front of the television cameras.

When Lou Holtz was at USCe, I saw him go out on Scott field, grab players face mask, twist it sideways, and pull him off the field chewing is *** the whole way. The player was looking out the ear hole when he got to sideline.

I would rather a coach grab my facemask than slap me on the butt. Just sayin'.

Society needs to catch its ******** meter up to the 21st century

There is no outrage. There are a dozen trolls on twitter getting mad on the internet. Society and the traditional news outlets pay these idiots too much attention. I’m growing very tired of the news cycle being driven by which idiot has figured out how to scream the loudest.

If one of my sons ends up playing football, I won't have a problem with coaches grabbing their facemasks when they make boneheaded plays. Now, if they do something that would seriously hurt them, that's completely different.

"Enabling" is also apt when referring to "participation trophy" generation.

You think we were out there at 6 years old purchasing them for ourselves?

(Also, the whole "participation trophy" argument is stupid, and it often used by idiots like Colin Cowherd).

Regarding the "snowflake" thing, it still boggles my mind how half the country has hopped on board trying to demonize respecting other people.

This thread reminds me of a funny story:

I played football under Freeze at Briarcrest. One day, Hugh grabbed the facemask and shook the head of one of our buddies so hard he apparently did like permanent damage. Nothing major like a ruptured disk or anything but to this day, when this guy turns his head in a certain direction, he feels pain, and immediately is reminded about how much he hates Hugh Freeze. And he’s not an MSU guy that just hates Freeze and is making this up. He went to Ole Miss. Any time Hugh is brought up, I ALWAYS bring up the neck injury and laugh my *** off.

And to make matters worse, this guy went on to become a military pilot. And he said he would be on no ****, combat missions in Iraq, and when he would have to turn his head to see his wingman, he was in constant pain. And just could not stop thinking about Hugh Freeze. And how much he hated him. While dropping bombs. LOL.

So you can add unpatriotic abuser of military personnel to the list of Hugh’s wrongs against society.
