Question...Did Moorhead call plays at Penn St? For some reason I’m thinking that Franklin ran the play calls.. if that is true then how did he get branded an offensive guru? He brought Andrew Breiner to the program who was also from Fordham and what exactly what does he bring to the game? Something sticks out in my mind is when Moorhead came to state, he was clear that he (Moorhead) would be the play caller almost like it was because he didn’t get to do it in his previous job???

he was on the sidelines at Penn State which is pretty unusual for an offensive coordinator. At least he was for the Rose Bowl game vs USC. But yeah, I think he called most of the plays.

Breiner is QB coach. Getsy was OC but he went back to the NFL. We also lost our D line coach to Alabama and our strength and conditioning coach to the NFL last year. Plus our linebacker coach. Plus Hudspeth left and so did Charles Huff our running backs coach. Not much turn over. Not to mention 2 NFL offensive linemen and a couple NFL d linemen and a NFL safety. Who did I miss ???

Moorhead called all his plays at Fordham and all the plays at Penn State. They were running the most basic lame dick pro style offense before Joe got to Penn State and they set school records the next two years with Joe. But there he didn't have to focus on all the responsibilities of a head coach, he just had to install his offense and call plays. Franklin kicked asses so Joe could be the good cop. I think we are seeing Joe's inability to do the head coaching tasks undercut his ability to do the things he was good at before.

And

I heard Joe Moorhead, say, that they never completly turned him lose to do what he wanted to do.

But regardless of all, lack of discipline, this ya ya stuff after every play, and getting whipped at the Line of scrimmage, falls

directly on the head coach. Not to mention, motivating players.(that is a given).

Not only did Moorhead call all the plays at Penn State, part of his alleged "genius" was his ability to call the right plays at the right time. He was considered kind of a wizard in the way he would set defenses up and then dial up a big play.

When Stricklin was discussing the Florida coaching search, he said something about how hiring a coach isnt like buying a new TV; you can't just look at the side of the box and know what you are going to get. Well, our box was apparently littered with false advertising...
