A high dollar coach does not equal success in 2 years

See Texas A & M. I'm not saying they are doing as bad as us but look at the return on their investment... I'd be pissed if I were them. Sometimes round pegs do not fit in square holes. I don't understand all they hype for a proven SEC coach. I'd personally rather take our chances with an up and comer, similar to what Cohen did with JM. And all this talk about Cohen being incompetent is bull. The guy made the best hire at the time, he's not coaching the team or playing on the field.

This logic is fine and all... but there is nuance to this discussion that cannot be overlooked.

When you watch aTm play Clemson close.... beat LSU last year... score 3 times on Bama in the 1H last weekend... show improved culture and toughness... it's easy to see the progress from the previous regime.

What aspect of MSU football is better today, than it was in 2017? Our entire culture has eroded. And that's the problem.

agree about the high dollar part. one of our most successful coaches of all time was a math teacher at Natchez-Richard Williams.

A&M hasn’t moved backwards under Jimbo. They have either maintained or moved slightly forward.

We have clearly taken a step back under Joe.

look at some of the best coaches of all time:

Saban: won at Michigan state when they were down.
Spurrier: won at Duke-amazing
Urban Meyer: won at Utah

who is doing a great job at a school that doesn't have a ton of advantages? Bill Clark, Willie Fritz, and Dave Clawson all come to mind. None of these guys would cost more than 3-3.5 million.

A&M will be a consistent top 15 team in another year. I don't see them getting passed Bama any time soon but they are closer than alot of people think. They got a ton of young talent and alot of talent coming in.

If you watched them play Bama last week and thought that it was a team getting worse, then you must not watch much football. They had a pretty good performance considering how good Alabama is.

Once we get skull-17ed 63-0 you'll notice.

That's what I'm screaming...It doesn't take a high dollar coach to anticipate crowd noise and adrenaline overflow on the first offensive series in an SEC road game. He should have planned for that and had the first three snaps go directly to Kylin Hill in a wildcat formation. And the punt team buckled up and ready to roll if needed. Instead, we backed up 10 yards and yielded a gold mine of field position to start the game.

Thinking about it, it seems like we've started a lot of games over the years like that--especially at places like Alabama, Auburn and LSU.

And that is they key, get talent on campus and hope your recruiter can coach them.

Under Moorhead state has only regressed. No improvement whatsoever. Two different situations, and our schedule isn’t near as hard as A&M. The toughest game was Auburn and look what happened.

Dan Mullen had us at #15 in year 2, and that was with coinflip losses to Arkansas and Auburn.

A&M has definitely improved. It has been what ? 3 years? And they will continue to improve. They are right there competitive with the big boys. Paid out the a$$ for the coach but its improving. Great recruiting also. We have regressed. Some of that is talent level. Some is coaching for sure. Can Joe get it together in a year or two ? Idk...he looked like he is ready to give up at that news conference. If he goes and we get a new coach, regardless of who it is its gonna take a couple years to get better. Either way we go its gonna be a year or two before we look decent. We need a lot of improvement on both sides of the line first. Maybe Cross and Dolla Bill will be ready to roll next year. Maybe Crumedy and Pickering will improve. If not it doesn't matter what happens. You win in the trenches

IF they can stay out of the NCAA doghouse. AS they get better they will be stepping on some toes and that historically has not worked out well in the SEC.

No argument there, and I'm not advocating for Moorhead to stay longer than 5 pm today. My comments are more directed toward the folks screaming for "SEC experience, yada yada." I also don't understand all the IB bashing... The guy has our athletics in a great position across the board. By all accounts, JM was the guy, hell we were all dooped into it. I would say that no one is more surprised than JM himself about how bad he stinks.
