ranked #19. Highest ranking in school history since 1978. Back to back wins over top 25 teams for first time in school history. For those who don’t remember Byrne was hiring Hudspeth if Mullen didn’t take the job.

Also for those that don't remember, he was fired from ULaLa for going 15-22 in his last 3 seasons and finishing 5th in the Sunbelt all 3 of those years........

True, but they were under NCAA investigation for those years...

They were under investigation for assistant coach David Saunders having recruits take their ACT in Waynesboro. Same guy that coached at OM three different times and caused OM's investigation in 2012-13. Hud was not named in the investigation and kept coaching at ULL. However, the NCAA troubles had to hurt ULL recruiting.

Before the investigation (and subsequent vacated wins), Hudspeth went 9-4 each of his first four years at ULL, and they ULL went 3-9 the season before Hud got there.

we can't hire someone with any NCAA trouble in their background at all right now. We are already on probation.

I like Mark, and was glad to have him apart of our program the two stints he served. But in no way do I think he should be on the list to be considered for HC when we make an hire. My one concern when we hired Joe, who I otherwise thought was a great hire, was his lack of experience in P5 football programs. Joe was a GA at Pitt and had 3 years at UCONN when they were in the BigEast (I dont really count that, but ill give it to him), before his 2 years at Penn State. Mark has only had 3 seasons at P5 program, which are both his stints here at MSU. I think we need someone who has more experience at the P5 level to be our HC, specifically in the SEC.

ETA: This can be a HC at the group of 6 level, but with past experience as assistant at P5 level. This is also a big concern I have with Bill Clarke at UAB.

A coach having success at the FCS level? That’s neat. Where have we heard this story before?

Exactly. Even if he was the best choice (he's not), we couldn't hire him right now anyway.

In his defense, probation sort of messed up those last years. He also has a great body of work at UNA.

I absolutely think we should hire him after next year.

Hud feels like a lazy hire to me. Nothing is all that impressive about his resume. I think people are infatuated with him because he’s from MS.

This is understandable, but many thought Freeze, Orgeron and Swinney were lazy hires. 2 of the 3 have worked out and Freeze would have had he had more experience (and thus kept his jake and boosters in check). I must admit I am surprised by Orgeron.

He also took them to a bowl in 5 out of his 7 season there. Prior to his tenure, ULL had never played in a bowl.

I probably should have said this to begin with but I certainly think we could do worse than Hud. I do think this team would be more competitive under him. I just think we could do better. The NCAA issues give me pause about him and I also wonder why things just went completely flat for him at Lafayette. Maybe it was all the ncaa trouble but maybe there is more to it.

Or Hugh Freeze. I do think he'd turn out more like Coach O though. Or Dabo.

Bottom line is he's a guy who is a recruiter at heart, but also has a good offensive fundamental acumen. He'd kill it here.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. I have been attending games since 1961 but if that nut job Freeze ever sets foot on our campus in any capacity I will be through forever. I will burn my damn MSU diploma if we EVER have a relationship with that fraud. Sex trafficking for football recruits. No sir, I will not support that type of recruiting for anything. If it takes someone like Freeze to compete then just tear the stadium down and call it a day. What the hell are you thinking?
