Yeah, 2016 sucked.
But by 2016 Mullen had a track record of success to build on. Moorhead's only track record at this point is disappointment.

Now, I'm not one of the folks on here screaming "we have to fire Moorhead." But things look pretty bleak right now.

Im really not sure what this proves. Since we conplained about our team sucking in 2016 we shouldn't do it now?

Message boards almost in their entirety degenerate into havens for those who want to appear insightful for going against the grain. Of course they want the petty gripes to be forgotten because that is all they are. Emotional petty gripes.

The boards rarely start that way. Even this one. It started with funny observations that weren’t allowed on Genespage. Now it’s all a bunch of misery looking for company.

Shame that.

Mullen's frustration that he didn't get big job offers after 2014 was palpable and it showed up in various ways at various times afterwards. It simply got old to a lot of people.

This board was started because some folks were fed up and frustrated with our football program and were attacked for daring to have an opinion that didn't resemble sunshine and rainbows. It wasn't just "funny observations." The sunshine patrol at Gene's Page told them to "go start their own website," and they did.

Mullen had his flaws, but he also had proven himself a lot more here than Moorhead has. Joe may still prove to be a good coach, but a year and a half in there are quite a few troubling trends that certainly warrant being concerned about. The next time we look like a prepared, well-composed football team on the road will be the first time it's happened under his watch.

I'm concerned about us returning to something similar to Jackie's last two years. That's really what we looked like Saturday and it's very concerning.

Those were 9 bad years but at least 4 of them we had lame duck coaches (Bellard and Felker) that shouldn't have been there as long as they were. We have literally pissed off over a decade in the last 50 years keeping coaches too long by putting off the inevitable.

I think we're more talented than we were then, but the discipline and lack of organization sure looks similar, or at least it did on Saturday. Our tendency to totally unravel every time we go on the road is just mind-boggling.

That is ridiculous.

If Mullen had stayed, I'd argue we would be headed that direction, because he would have pouted and quit again after going 10-2 last year and losing the bowl game, and job hopping again, and tanking recruiting for like the 8th straight year. Moorhead has nearly corrected the recruiting gaps created by Mullen. Whoever the coach is, will be much better off in 2021 and 2022 due to that.

To my point, Mullen was given time to prove himself and there was plenty of angst along that path. His year 1 was magical because it proved that Croom really was a terribly ineffective head coach, so Mullen was praised (and rightly so) for putting a competitive team on the field with a bunch of player that one year prior looked like they had never played the game. I can remember being completely shocked that we actually had any players who could play the game, but we know that Croom did OK recruiting. Now we have Joe, who recruits very well, following Dan, who sucked for the most part, at least as it pertains to getting players at all position of need.

It's not at all ridiculous.

First of all, once aGAIN, you really struggle with reading comprehension. My point was how we look on the field today compared with how we looked on the field then. My point wasn't that our current future looks like five years after that point.

Secondly, you clearly don't understand how recruiting works. Joe has done a good job to this point, but it gets a lot harder when the results on the field don't mesh with what he is selling to those guys. We have a whole bunch of commitments that he's going to have to fight his tail off to keep in the fold. If a few of them flip, you will start seeing recruiting gaps.

Class won't fall apart unless they think Moorhead and Co won't be coaching them. And you are badly exaggerating all this stuff. The offense looks fine with Shrader in there (or a healthy Stevens). The defense is what we all thought it was, rebuilding.

The other stuff can be chalked up to typical SEC road woes vs. a very good team.

Good news is, Cohen and Keenum have plenty of sense and very likely see things the way I do.

^^^ This all day long.
Jackie was one of the better coaches we've had in a while, but even he spoiled his overall record here towards the end (finished .500)
We disposed of Croom in short order when it was obvious he was taking us in the wrong direction.

Last year we had a talent-laden roster yet still finished a disappointing 8-5 with a loss to 17n Iowa. That's on Joe. If Moorhead can't prepare a team to be competitive in SEC play, then Cohen needs to replace him with someone who can. We should never have appeared so inept against Auburn on national television.

How much time is enough? Not being a dick. Really just asking what you think. Honestly, I think it's always a real gamble coming and going. You cut bait too early, you risk turning off potential candidates and ending up in a worse situation than you were in. Wait too long, and you risk doing long-term damage to the program. It's got to be one hell of a high-wire act, and I'm pretty sure I don't know the answer.

I would concur that would be disturbing. I would also argue that in all my years of leadership, fear has never been a good decision criteria. Feelings are average companions and terrible bosses.

That's what I am afraid of as well. It's not so much of the talent difference between us and Auburn, it's the obvious fact that our preparation was terrible and we had only a couple of players who showed any poise, drive, and game savvy. We have a few on offense who are still trying their best, but their coach is overthinking things to the point that they become unsure of what exactly they are doing at times.

We didn't look like a bunch of monkeys 17ing a football, we looked more like the football.

My biggest concern is when the team captain gets tossed for an idiotic targeting call. That's not the leadership we need from our defensive players.

We have another champion of poor reading comprehension.

Concern is not the same thing as fear. And nobody is going to make any decision about the leadership of our football program based on my concerns. But that doesn't invalidate any of the points that myself, or so many others here are making. Everyone here should be concerned. If you're not, you may be part of the problem.

Ibleedmaroondawg was “afraid”, my apologies.

I will certainly take my fair share of blame for the state of the football program. I think they have a Sixpackometer in the locker room that is directly correlated to effort and execution.***

Jackie Sherrill won 3 SEC games his last three years. I’d say that’s a bit of a reach at this point.

All right then,

what you going to do about that strength and conditioning stuff?

I don't like getting blown out at the LOS. (something I religiously watch for)

Takes awhile to recover from such, can't do it mid season.

Crap, there is just a bunch of ****, going South here.

The inconsistency is what I find the most aggravating. Last year we looked decent some games like Auburn when we slaughtered them and crap other games such as Kentucky. This year I thought we had several little young player type mistakes going on and then Saturday was a complete disaster. Esp the first 6 minutes. My god. It was brutal to watch. We couldnt block, cover, tackle, get plays off, couldnt even decide what to do on the one yard line. Just sickening.
