Took over a 1-11 North Texas team four years ago and has posted back-to-back 9 win seasons.

Was team captain for Oklahoma on the 2000 National Title team, coached RB’s under Mike Leach at Texas Tech. Was Asst HC and OC for the Larry Fedora-led North Carolina team that won 11 games in 2015.

He’ll have a big time job in a year or two, though North Texas just increased his package to about $1.5M.

Solid recruiter as evidenced by UNT moving from from a ranking of 115th to 105th, then 79th, and then this year 58th and moving up, as well as the fact he married very well.

Would be a great fit for our grind it out culture. Maybe Cohen will give him a look.

Along with Dana Holgerson, Littrell is part of the Hal Mumme coaching tree which includes guys like Leach, Dino Babers, Art Briles, and Sonny Dykes, so you know they can put points on the board.

I think if Cohen could get a guy like Littrell or Norvell or even Billy Napier (who has ULL at 4-1 now and running roughshod through their conference) he should think about making a move.

I know I’ve done a total 360 on Moorhead, but Saturday night’s performance was completely unacceptable, and unacceptable means you don’t accept it. You act in a way to prevent it from happening again.

Tutorgate (and the subsequent handling of it) is quickly becoming a fireable offense. The spin is we couldn’t act before the season because the NCAA took until week zero to rule on it, so we played out the season and now we’re making the change.

I'm sorry, but this is foolish to discuss. Moorehead will get this year and next. You don't want to get on a coaching carousel. It never works well. You have to give a guy time. Look at Maryland after Durkin, Tennessee, Arkansas, FSU, A&M (barring the 2 Manziel years) etc. etc. Moorehead walked into a great situation for 1 year, last year. There are holes all over the roster from Dan's mismanagement of it even without tutorgate. Every DLmen we have is a freshman or RS freshman. We have no depth at LB, the OL woes are well-documented, if Kylin goes pro we have Weatherspoon that's it, no WRs, and well you get the picture. Speculate away, but barring some epic collapse of 2002 proportions, he will get this year and next at least. He is setting up the roster to have a really good 2021 and 2022.

Just makes no sense to me why we’d rather discuss and get excited about a new coach but not even show up for home games.

Mullen is the guy that left massive holes in the DL and DB positions, not Moorhead and Shoop.

I agree. Mullen bailed and left it in rough condition as far as back ups. But I'm sure Cohen reads this and he probly has feelers out to Littrel or whatever his name is this morning.

I was of the same thought with regards to giving Moorhead more time but I’m telling you guys, whatever he is doing Sunday through Friday to have the team prepared to perform is not correct.

It does not appear that he knows what to do. I agree he probably gets his third year but I think it has to come with some pretty specific goals and metrics to hit or you’ve got to make a change.

The schedule right now is actually being kind to Joe, as he’s got 2 weeks to prepare for a big name opponent on the road that is fortunately putting an awful product on the field. Even as bad as Tennessee is this could serve as some proof that Moorhead can prepare a team to perform on the road in the SEC.

There are coaches out there proving they have the talent and knowledge to build a program and right now we do not have one.

It's probably futile because Moorhead is here for a while.

But when we do make our next hire after the season next year, I hope we learn the lesson that is here for us with Moorhead. You have to go out and find a guy that is from the area and understands the type of player and the level of toughness that's required to compete in the SEC.

We're kicking around names of guys who have great resumes - but don't necessarily fit that criteria. Moorhead was a head coach with a track record of success, and the hottest coordinator in the country. And yet, it's not working out.

Save the effort in researching and posting until at least this time next year. You’re just cluttering the board with nonsense because JoMo isn’t getting fired this year.

Do those holes in depth chart get us delay of game penalties on the very first play from scrimmage? Does it make us call time outs for having too many men on the field when we just came out of a play stoppage? Does it make us get undisciplined personal foul penalties?

I don’t understand how some of you are just glossing over the complete erosion of fundamentals in our program. Moorehead either does not value or cant teach fundamentals. If we were getting beat simply because of talent, I’d be fine waiting on moorehead to fix that issue. But it’s not just about talent. Our team beats itself a lot and that reflects directly on the head coach.

I don't know if I agree with that. The biggest issues I have with Moorhead (mental errors, turnovers, penalties) would be present rather he's coaching in Mississippi or Massachusetts, IMO.

Those mistakes are there. But there is also a general toughness that you have to play with and that starts with S&C and a philosophical approach to mental and physical toughness. You won’t be successful in this conference without it and people coming into it have to learn that.

that's where I am. I would like him to figure it out but i don't think he will based on what we have seen. everywhere you look, you see regression on our team. I don't think he is a great developer or motivator. I don't think he is quite the offensive genius nor great play caller he was billed to be. I also haven't seen much of anything that garners him any respect as a head coach. The only thing people will say about him is that he can recruit, seems smart, and is a nice guy. Recruits take a while to pan out to see if they are actually worth it. Shrader might be the one thing he can hang his hat on right now. Being a nice guy doesn't win you football games. Being smart doesn't win you football games either.

Wait, I've lost track. Are we firing Cohen first or Joe? Can we just fire Cohen and Keenum first and battle Ole Miss out for the best replacements, then let the new guy fire Joe and get somebody good?***

Who are you to say it's foolish?!?!? Do you have any idea the level of coaches and AD's that are replying on this board with great answers? Until you've coached at the same level as the resident SPS experts on leadership, you have no right!***

I agree. Another case in point, we have the ball on Auburn's 3 inch line and Moorhead mandates "check with me" before the play is run. One of our lineman jumps after the delay, probably because of all the crowd noise, and we don't score. In fact, we fumble the ball back to Auburn after the 5 yard penalty.

I still haven't had anybody explain to me why a QB sneak isn't the playbook. This instance you describe had we had a quick-go QB sneak ready to go would have never happened. It also would have been 35-17 to start the second half instead of 42-10. Still completely unlikely to come back, but not impossible. There are so many complete 17ups in that game that it is hard to point to any one of them, but this one just killed me. Mullen was guilty of it too. Getting in the shotgun at the 1 inch line. My GOD. Grow a fricking pair, line up and run that 17er in.

Being the offensive coordinator at Penn State is almost like being an offensive coordinator in the NFL, maybe even easier because you will always have better talent than 85% of your competition with the least bit of effort.

Moving him from a job that cushy to what is EASILY one of the hardest 10 P5 jobs in the country is asking a bit much. We need to look at people who have won at places who have no business winning, because that is what they are facing here, except on a much larger and much more difficult scale. At Penn State you have the luxury of being a savant. At Mississippi State you have to be one of the world's foremost experts on herding cats. We went the other direction and it's playing out about like you would (or should) have expected.
