1) the same negative posters wanted to run Dan off early on

2) the same negative posters wanted to fire Dan every year for job shopping

3) the same negative posters wanted to get someone who could recruit

4) the same negative posters want to fire Joe in year 2 even though they were wrong about Dan

5) the same people who recognized Dans recruiting ineptness can’t seem to mentally put the pieces together that it might actually have an impact on the next coach. Who da thunk?

Yesterday sucked. Our general sloppiness, trash talking crap that starts at kickoff and the apparent lack of discipline and preparedness are bad indicators of where our program is, but they don’t necessarily mean that Joe should be fired. In fact, I can’t think of a single case where firing a second year coach (or really any coach not given time to prove/disprove their abilities) does anything positive for the program.

I’m not a Joe sunshine pumper, I’m a common sense advocate. The coaching carousel pattern is a recipe for disaster and at the moment, particularly because this coach CAN recruit, MSU would be well suited to evaluate end of season, set goals for year 3 and hold everyone accountable to those goals.

We have more young talent actually playing than I can recall in recent history.

Is there a group for people who are pissed at our team coming out and looking like garbage all the time but also dont want to fire Moorhead today? Im in that group. Moorhead had to figure some things out if he wants to be our coach in 2021 and he has shown no signs of improvement.

I have very little confidence in Joe as there are way too many red flags and excuses, but I’m also not an advocate for firing him at this point. For me, he deserves one more year to get things on track

That said, I’ve also been saying for 18 months that he has done nothing to embarrass the program, and that absolutely changed last night. Everything about it was completely embarrassing and on multiple occasions, inexcusable. We’ve got to let the season play out, but at this point, I can’t fathom him getting an extension

I disagree with “no”. I’m way more pleased, I general, our offense this year. It feels like we are very close to being very good, even if the measurables aren’t quite there yet.

By no sign of improvement Im talking about how last year in Lexington he looked lost and had no idea how to handle being in the road in the SEC. Its easy to chalk that up to being a new HC. Last night was his 5th SEC road trip and it was somehow the worst one yet.

I’m not one of those posters that feels like everyone’s gotta think the same way I do, and if you feel like the offense has gotten better, that’s fine

That said, we’re now 5 games into the season, and I’ll point out again that there is virtually zero statistical evidence to back that up.

2018 - 397 yds/gm, 6.15 yds/play. 70th in the country

2019 - 398 yds/gm, 6.05 yds/play. 79th in the country

But, but, but.... Fitz can’t run the RPO(Fitz ain’t here anymore). We’re playing a freshman(So is Auburn). The teams we’ve played are SO much better (KSU and Kentucky? Please... and it’s only gonna get tougher)

I’ve heard em all, and I’ve been fed excuse after excuse for a year and a half. At some point, the stats are what they are, and some of our resident geniuses will be out of excuses

Mullen had his shortcomings, but it became clear pretty early he could coach. This is NOT that scenario even remotely. Just saying people wanted Mullen fired doesn’t make it so. If they wanted him fired, I want names of who these posters are.

It is hard to have much confidence in a coach who had to run his offense last year instead of just using the playbook from the year before. Dang near any hs coach in ms could have won as many with the defense we had last year.

It’s a damn disgrace we only won 8 games with that defense. In retrospect, given what we saw yesterday, it’s a miracle our weaknesses weren’t exploited more often, but I guess wr’s enjoy not having their heads detached from their chests

No, you do not remember posters wanting to run Mullen off in year one. It was a love fest with him until year three.

You might remember us giving up the most points we’ve given up in a half since 1970 though if you watched the game last night.

1. Negative. False statement. Never wanted him gone early
2. Negative. Never wanted him fired
3. Nope. Not wrong to want a coach to recruit better
4. Nope. Never were wrong. Didn’t want him gone. Saw what his building early on. Haven’t seen that with jo
5. Recruiting is not the problem with Joe’s teams

Letting sell the wrong coach come in and destroy your program is also a recipe for disaster.

Not the same people. I never once wanted Mullen fired. I’m not a guy out here demanding 10 wins a year. I just want a competitive and competent team. I understand the limitations that state has but I want a coach that does not get a delay of game on the first play from scrimmage. Seriously, something like that happens every game. And those are signs that he’s in over his head.

I never wanted Dan fired but I really hated him job-hunting every November.

If I knew he was going to do what he did the way he did it, I would have wanted him gone after the 5-7 year.

I too have like some of the things I have seen on offense from our Freshman QB, Hill and Mitchell.

But... I do not like things like our opening possessions or the 1st and goal at the half yard line because it showed just how indecisive and unsure Moorehead is. You cannot overthink those situations or you will get the results we had from your players because THEY will mirror that second-guessing from the coach and have zero confidence. You could see it in their body language on the field.

I want Joe to make it. It would be simpler. He just needs to grow a pair and trust his instinct instead of trying to outsmart everyone else in the league.

O please. The year we went 5-7 and nearly lost to Ohio in St. Pete, nearly half of the posters on this board wanted him gone.

I saw positive signs that Mullen was going to be a good coach in 2009 when he took a ****-for-talent team and went 5-7 with them. There were all sorts of positive signs that Mullen would end up being the best coach in MSU history. Moorhead literally has ZERO of these traits. I don’t understand why, and I like Joe, but he’s proving to be an average to below average coach.

Maybe it’s his scheme, but I think it has more to do with his attention to detail. Joe is not a perfectionist like Mullen was. In our part of the college football world, you have to be a perfectionist and demand that from your players.

I was team Dan from day 1. I don’t follow recruiting so the knock on Dan for that never meant anything to me because he developed good players on the field.

Look the initial expectation for Dan, and the initial expectation for Sloppy Jo can’t be the same thing. Both inherited two totally different situations. And that does not excuse JoMo, as he knew what he was coming into.

I supported Dan for many years until he decided he was bigger than the program and was doing us a favor by being here.

I have tried to support Moorhead.

I guess you were upset when people were calling for Croom's head, too?

Your memory sucks.

Even if we're good on offense we're bad on special teams and bad on defense and not focused whatsoever in every other aspect of being a good football team.

I think the offense is a lot better with Shrader. We still scored over 20 points at Auburn and our own self destruction in the red zone and 3inch line took off at least 14 more points. Last year on the road we couldn't even get first downs.

This is where you go wrong. Comparing Moorhead to Croom is asinine. It's like you weren't even here back in those days. You're worse than these kids who know nothing but Mullen. They don't know what bad football is, and apparently you've forgotten too.

I didn't compare Moorhead to Croom. Maybe instead of flaming the board 24/7, you should go back to college (if you ever went to begin with) and take a remedial reading comprehension class.

It really doesn't matter. If our coach sucks, we suck. If our coach is good, by the time he can build anything he and/or his assistants are scooped up by a name program. The die has been cast. Our last chance to do anything of note in football was the Bama game in 2014. That was the absolute apex of our program. We will not be allowed to compete past that. Funnel more resources to baseball and basketball where we have at least a puncher's chance of winning something that matters.

I think you nailed one of the biggest problems. Ifs a good bit of the laid back whatever attitude. He’s not demanding enough. It’s been evident from the start. Undisciplined, care free, laid back.

I agree. I think state is much better if we a qb that adds to the run threat instead of everyone honing in on hill or pinning their ears back on pass rush. If the qb can run it adds that threat. Shrader also throws well enough to keep it balanced. Plus he reads well enough to give or keep

I know what you mean... Croom never gave up 56 points to anyone in 5 seasons. Joe did it less than halfway through year 2. Bad thing is I have a feeling this won't be the only time someone hangs 50 on us this year.

And yes - I did sit through a ton of those Croom games, even had season tickets for the first 2 years.

Ok, let’s name names....since half of this board wanted Mullen fired, it should be pretty easy to give a few posters that were leading the “fire Mullen” charge after 10-3, 9-4, and an obvious rebuilding season of 6-7 in 2016 in his 8th season at MSU.
