The game last night was horrific. The choices related to the suspensions and starting Stevens were head scratching.

But these aren’t things that popped up in ‘18 when JoMo got here. Sherrill against Auburn in ‘03. Croom pretty much every game. Even with Mullen, we laid eggs against A&M in ‘12, Auburn in ‘16. UGA in ‘17. These games are carbon copies of last night without suspensions and injured QBs. The list really goes on and on.

My two cents. Stability is a better bet. It’s what gave us 1998, 1999, 2000, 2010, 2014 and 2015. We have to hope that things align with the coach we have and I believe they will after tutorgate has passed and as Schrader develops.

I would normally be with you in a situation like this, but our current coach is not the answer.

It'll be more and more obvious against every team we play with a quality HC.

It amazes me the two or three sunshine pumpers that come out after every game the next day. We could get beat 45-0 to Tennessee and they will still do the same ol tiresome excuses every time.

Good post.

One good thing that came from last night is that we learned this offense CAN work against a quality SEC defense. Scored 23, and left a minimum of 11 points on the board with the Spivey drop and the Shrader fumble inside the 5. All that with a true freshmen QB and the usual **** for talent at WR is encouraging.

The bad news is basically everything else. The discipline / preparation appeared 10x worse last night than they ever had been in 2 years. The effort was pitiful, especially on defense. Two delay of games in the first series (including right after kickoff) is flat out unacceptable. Unfortunately, effort is the hardest thing to consistently correct, which is why guys get fired all the time in college football. Because there are a lot of good systems out there....basically everybody has one.

Bottom line...everyone’s gotta be patient. That includes both the Joe haters and the Joe supporters. If we are as bad off as many think we are, we’ll drop a game or two to a UT/Ark/OM type team, and JoMo is officially coaching for his job in 2020...likely needing 8-4 or better. If we aren’t, we’ll win those out and get to 7-5, hopefully tack on another solid recruiting class, and go from there. A loss to Top 10 Auburn on the road, no matter how it happens, was never going to move the needle in the grand scheme of things.

I agree that SOME stability is good. However, nothing good is going to come out of our current special teams coaching and strength and conditioning program. I am as pissed at Morehead as anyone and I don’t think firing him right now is a good idea but he needs to make some personnel changes in a bad way.

What exactly has joe done to make people think he’s gonna be a good head coach? He’s a better recruiter than Mullen but every other aspect is just pitiful. He had a generational talent at RB at penn state and it made him look like a genius.

Tutor gate and this musical chairs suspension ******** has a LOT to do with the effort. Because we did what so many fans wanted, we essentially communicate to the team that we concede a game. That leads to an *** kicking.

Should have suspended them all the first 8 games. And that’s on Moorhead. And our administration for overthinking the stuff.

Stability is great. IF you’ve got the right coach. Our baseball program had 4 coaches in 4 years & that’s working out just fine. Moorhead will get another year for sure, but if he’s not working out by then, we need to move on.

Correct. After all the ups and downs of my 42 years of watching MSU sports, it never ceases to amaze me how surprised people get.

Let's get something straight up front. Just because someone doesn't think Moorhead can get it done doesn't make them a "hater". So let's "nip it" right now.

Whether we like it or not....JoMo will get another year, maybe two. Canning a guy after 2 years will not look good when trying to hire another guy. Three wouldn't be great either but if we have a Croom type final season next year then it could happen.

Horrific is an apt description. It is not the first time we've gone to Auburn and got our asses kicked. It probably won't be the last time either. I can stand losing if the other team just beats you. I can't stand shooting yourself in the foot while it is going on.

Auburn was the better team. No doubt about that. However, blown coverages, dropped passes, not lining up properly, stupid penalties were huge in our demise. The good news is these things are correctable. The bad news is do you think Moorhead and company are capable of correcting them. I have my doubts.

Moorhead is not getting the team ready to play though. That’s the major issue.

Shrader appears to be able to execute the offense. Shoop is a capable DC. But Moorhead will not survive if we’re committing 5 personal fouls a game and turning the ball over 2 or 3 times game in and out.

Last night was a train wreck and utterly painful to watch. But an honest and unemotional reflection on it all has to include both causes for optimism and causes for concern. Optimism: Joe's offensive system has now been shown to work when players execute, his recruiting is an upgrade, and players love him. Pessimism: Game management, players' discipline and poise, etc. I have no doubt that there's a big learning curve from being a P5 coordinator to a P5 head coach. I see the potential with Joe and hope he figures it out.

notice they almost never post during the game and after delay of game kickoff penalties. Wonder why that is...

As much as I think Shrader is going to be great, reality is that those points you refer to us scoring (moving the ball, etc) happened again the Boogs’ third team. Gus was feeling charitable. They could’ve scored 80 and shut us out if they wanted. That’s the JoMo reality.

Is he really a better recruiter than Mullen? Shrader is the read deal for sure, but otherwise recruiting looks very similar to me. I hope Joe can get it done, but I don’t feel good about the direction of the program.
