Reporter who wrote about Iowa State fan’s racist tweets fired for his own racist tweets

I dont understand any of this. Its all just so absurd.

- Its absurd to look into the background of a private person who became an accidental celebrity for 15min.
- Its absurd to tweet overtly racist ****, even if its to friends and even if its obscure references to a TV show.
- Its absurd to fire someone just because that person made some offensive tweets of their own years ago before associated with your company, all because they happened to be the person who was tasked with looking into the private person's online history.


Its all just so absurd.


I look forward to everyone at The Register having their online history investigated in the coming weeks. A precedent has been set.
I will be there next Thursday for a meeting, I expect a lot of empty desks, at least if they are consistent.

Sounds like the hospital is still getting the money and both dumbasses, the 24 year old and the reporter, are learning valuable lessons. Don't say racist stuff.

I fail to see what the problem is or why I should be outraged. Seems like no innocent people were harmed and it all turned out fine

Oh, poorly worded. I have a meeting there every month due to being on the board of a nonprofit teen mentorship organization. Itll be fun to bring this up and hear about the fallout.

I just don’t understand doing a hitpiece on some guy raising money for a children’s hospital. And yes, he should have not said those things but the guy was going to be famous for five
minutes.
