You really think Anheuser Busch is looking to associate with someone who made a joke about black people dying in the gas ovens? Like, that's the hill you wanna die on?

Besides, AB honored their commitment to the children's hospital.

Way to raise the overly emotional bar there, buddy. You took what the OP posted and completely flipped it to have the most negative interpretation possible. Go be overly sensitive and dramatic some place else.

I merely explained to you why A-B chose not to associate with the guy. It's not an interpretation; it is literally what happened. If you want to support the guy have at it, scooter.

Funny you used the word, “support.” A fundamental societal disconnect right now is that we are trying to link ANY kind of friendship or association with someone as “supporting everything they’ve ever said or done, even if it happened when they were a kid.” Where is the logic in this?

If someone wants to go be friends with a 24 year old dude from Iowa, free country. My point is any reasonable person will realize it's a completely untenable position for A-B to have direct association with a person who has publicly made jokes comparing black mothers to gorillas.

EDIT: having said all of that, it was probably a waste of resources for the newspaper to look into the guy's background in the first place. Although my guess is someone Googled the dude's name and easily found his Twitter, so it wasn't exactly Woodward and Bernstein-level investigative journalism. He wasn't profiting off the deal. But they did, and here we are, cat's out of the bag, and there's no way A-B can associate with him. And I doubt they're associating with the reporter either.

That’s not the angle you took with your post and you know it. The OP was not even speaking of A-B.

I’m guessing AB advertises on Comedy Central

Which is the channel that airs the show this guy was quoting. Where is the outrage for this?

Some guy doing a really good thing said something stupid when he was a teenager. Let’s shine a negative light on a positive story.

Insulin costs $70 in Canada and $700 in US. Crickets.

Unfortunately this is how things work now. Good or bad, you gain any spotlight, you are going to be looked into as far back as your internet foot print. Scary thought huh?
your 40 year old self will be judged by the actions of your 20 year old self.

Saw the sign a couple weeks ago and laughed at it. I didn't know it turned in to such an awesome story, especially for a rival fan. Kudos to the guy for facing the backlash head-on as well. However, as others have stated A-B didn't really have a choice in this day and age.

The real question here is: Is it culturally appropriate for me to continue my Natty Light consumption?

WHich is a completely irrelevant. Nobody was criticizing A-B. They were criticizing the *** clown reporters that thought they needed to include a 16 year old's quotes from a popular TV show in a story 7 years later.

Good. I hope people track down whether they said anything that could be interpreted as inappropriate, even if it was a quote of somebody else, and try to get them fired. Don't care if they get fired, but hopefully they will at least sweat enough to think about whether they want to be total jackasses going forward.

General comments in no particular order...

1- There is no benefit to use Twitter/Facebook/SocailMedia under your own name and post anything beyond pictures of food and pets. 0 benefit. SocialMedia has done more to change the culture(s) around me than most anything else since Ive been alive, and I cant say its been for the better.

2- Why parents dont all monitor their kids' social media is beyond me. Just like learning to walk, learning to piss in a urinal, and learning to drive- kids need help learning how to use social media.

3- Being in Des Moines, this story has been all over the place for a couple weeks now. Even as one who doesnt use social media or read/watch local news- its impossible to not know about the story. Its a 17ing shame that this appears to be the end of the story.

4- Once again I am thankful I didnt have access to such archived technology when I was a teen in high school.

5- I continue to be confused as to what causes a company or people to boycott one person/cause while others are supported, even though they too do things that are offensive/distasteful. I hope sociologists someday figure out why one person or cause is accepted while another is bashed into oblivion, even thought they are effectively the same in offense/distaste.

Do you think only those among us who have done no wrong should be allowed to report?
Serious question as this would have a significant impact when it comes to reporting on people who actually are bad/********/criminals.

I think there should be generally one set of rules applied to people. I think generally people shouldn't troll twitter accounts to see if anybody tweeted something stupid when they were a teenager. But people who disagree should certainly have the standard they want applied to other people applied to them. There is literally no reason anybody needs to know some random guy raising money tweeted something ill considered when he was 16. There is at least some reason to know about the character and intelligence of reporters, so it's good to know that he is simultaneously has the type of character that he will trash another person for tweets when he was 16 despite his own tweets (at an older age) that are similarly bad and also has the type of intelligence that he would trash somebody like that and not think "I should protect and/or delete all the awful **** I tweeted in the past since it's obvious somebody is going to look into it after I do something so ******." If somebody is stupid and of low character, how can you trust them to not mislead you because of a lack of character or because of being too stupid to know what they are saying is misleading?

On a related note, if you haven’t seen the latest Netflix special from Dave Chappelle you might give it a watch. Very funny and sadly accurate..

a quote from Dave:
“Doesn’t matter what I say, they’re going to get everybody eventually. Like, look, I don’t think I did anything wrong, but…....

....but we’ll see.”

A lot was funny. Some was just terrible. Real highs and lows, not much in the middle.

I agree, there was a lull in the middle but the overall message was good. Basically, “would y’all mother17’s please chill the 17 out?”

I give him credit for putting it all out there and pushing the audience, but the funniest bits were his home life toward the end. The home defense bit is especially good.

Still much better than his last attempt...

but he's still not back at the top of his game...maybe he really can't be in the current culture, which is much an indictment of it as anything else that springs to mind for a broad cross-section of America.

Meanwhile, the cost of insulin in Canada is about $30/vial while the same drug in the US is $300/vial.

Its always interesting to see the **** that isnt actually important in life, but takes up so much emotion and energy. Its quite the distraction from **** that is actually important.

Reporter who wrote about Iowa State fan’s racist tweets fired for his own racist tweets

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines Register reporter who wrote about racist tweets posted years ago by an Iowa security guard is no longer employed by the Iowa newspaper because he also made offensive comments on social media.

In the story, Calvin noted King had posted two racist tweets more than seven years ago, when he was a teenager. People angered by the story found old tweets from Calvin that made offensive comments about race, gay marriage and other topics.
Calvin couldn’t be reached for comment. His Twitter account is no longer open to the public.
