By all accounts we’ve got one of the best team vibes we’ve ever had. The locker room is very tight and the players are very much team-focused rather than me-focused.

It takes time to build a culture. Gotta be patient.

Build what "culture?" Dan built a great culture. We played hard and were disciplined. Dan's lack of effort to continuously go after real difference makers in recruiting (not just local guys like Jeff Simmons) is what held him back namely on the offensive line. We did better with less bc Dan and Heavsy are better coaches, but his lack of will on the recruiting trail caused us to have gaping holes and lack of depth at key positions. Had he gone after higher caliber OL and developed them, he might have raised his ceiling. Instead he went after low level guys and guys who were grade risks and most of the time the grade risks resulted in a bad outcome for us.

But the culture Dan built was fine.

Uh, yeah. At least for me. I’ve been vocal about wanting him to succeed because he is such a fit culturally and his style is a breath of fresh air when compared to Mullen. But naw, some of you just want to make it anti-joe.

That said, we have much bigger problems than youth and suspensions. And regardless of what happened yesterday, we have a bad loss on the schedule that we shouldn’t have, which will lead to unmet expectations aGAIN, unless we figure out how to pull a big upset somewhere down the line.

If you people who only live to bash those who dare to provide critical commentary would actually listen, you might learn something.

Got my upvote. Your last sentence was killer.

As I recall you are a self-admitted *******. In any case, I have seen plenty of your posts and consequently have no interest in a discussion of any kind with you. Carry on with your dreary existence..

He is managing the roster better than anyone in the past. I say in 4 years we are going to be begging him to stay. I hope we don't let him go, We need to match whatever it is. He is going to be successful. He's learning on the job and you can see him make corrections. I believe he is being more disciplined on the players while at the same time being a players coach. All i know is he had them up and ready for this game. Let's make it 2 games in a row and I'll be firmly back on the JOMO wagon again. If we just play hard and play to win, Ill be happy no matter the outcome.

More proof of your deficiency. "my dreary existence", lol. Again...telling post from someone who just doesn't "measure up". You know you can't engage legitimately without getting embarrassed, so instead we're treated to juvenile name-calling and childish comments such as this, as if you have even the slightest clue about my, "existence".

You are such an impressive poster. Can't wait for the next silly drivel to emerge from your keyboard.*

For those not unhinged by their bad temper, bad manners or lack of self-confidence, I'll point out what should be obvious. Nothing in my posts actually contradicts or even criticized the OP. In fact, I think CSD is probably correct. The joke I posted that drew SLDL's absurd reaction was to make fun of the notion people can't have legitimate concerns & criticisms while still liking and/or pulling for Joe and our boys.

SLDL's comments are indicative of the kind of poster GPers are known for...unwilling to accept any criticism at all without getting their panties-in-a-wad....even when it's an obvious joke.

What's your point? That lower salaries attracts and retains better assistants? Sadly, I've seen similar logic around here lately.

That it didn’t matter about money, the strength coach is going to the NFL when that opportunity comes up. You don’t turn down that opportunity. Same with bama, those guys were going to bama no matter the money. In a coaches mind, coaching at Bama is one of the top jobs and they view it as a way to move up the latter quicker or get a better Head coaching job down the line. Lukabo and Getsy went running back to NFL first chance they got and we upgraded at both of those positions with moorehead hires.

Well, my point was asst. salaries matter. You seem to be arguing that.

That it didn’t matter about money, the strength coach is going to the NFL when that opportunity comes up. You don’t turn down that opportunity. Same with bama, those guys were going to bama no matter the money. Lukabo and Getsy went running back to NFL first chance they got and we upgraded at both of those positions with moorehead hires.

Did we do a search before promoting the asst. strength coach? If we did a search and interviewed candidates and then decided we already got the best guy - then fine.

The post you replied to was just saying we need to give Joe the tools. You may be right about why those 3 left. Forget those that left; replace them with better coaches and pay the ones you want to keep before they start looking.

If we really want to move up a level in the conference, I think 2 things you shouldn't scrimp on is the asst. salary pool, and the recruiting budget.

Hiring and keeping great assistants who are great recruiters isn’t a part of a program’s culture? You should probably let Dabo and Nick know that.

I keep reading about how intelligent Moorhead is. Is he that intelligent, or is just that good at bullshitting and repeatedly spouting off attractive tag lines? He talks a good game, but in game coaching leaves me scratching my head.

I don't think much of Moorhead as a coach(he's no genius), but he's a good guy and I'd definitely buy his book if he ever compiles a comprehensive list of catchphrases(especially the "THREE THINGS" section).

I still think it's too early to categorize the K State game as a "bad loss." At the end of the season, if they suck, then yeah, it's a bad loss. If they end up being a bowl team, not a bad loss necessarily.

I think Joe is a work in progress and he is learning to be a head coach in the

SEC. There are going to be head scratching moments on the path but I like what I see for the most part and I think he is
a great guy and a good fit personality wise for State. He has had a tough hand of cards dealt to him this year with the
suspensions, injuries. and youth but I haven't heard him make any excuses.

I would like to see the tackling improve and I would like to see him bring the fire from his belly but so far so good for me.

Also, I think he is a good recruiter and will only get better.

The people who are the most negative are probably rooting for him the hardest. The desire for him (or any MSU coach) to be successful is what fuels the disappointment when they aren't. I'd love for him to succeed. But that desire isn't going to make me his polish turds.

BTW, it was a nice win today. We absolutely had to have it and we got it.

Nothing would make me happier than for Moorhead to prove me wrong. If Joe really is playing the long game and is trading short term bumps for long term success, then I will be happy as hell in the end and own up to misjudging him.

I didn’t think we’d beat Kentucky, but my *** was sure as hell sitting in Davis Wade Saturday cheering, yelling, and ringing, hoping we would.

I’d rather that I was wrong and State wins than State lose just so I can be proven right on a message board.

Just because someone says “I don’t think Joe’s a good fit/coach/playcaller/motivator/leader”, that isn’t comparable to something like Coach34 shitting on and rooting against Tyler Russell for 4 seasons.

Introduce yourself to a mirror. People like you are a cancer to MB's everywhere. You appear to lack the ability to carry on an intelligent, reasoned debate, so it's, "you're an *******", etc.

Sad.

I see your new change of attitude is working well.lol

IF this is true, why did Willie Gay pull two totally immature, self-serving stunts and get himself thrown out of the game IN THE FIRST HALF in his first game of the year!! I'm sorry, but if that is the "culture" he's building, I'm not buying. If one of Saban's players had pulled that kind of stunt, the guy would have been on the bench the rest of the game if not off the team already. Instead, JoMo was congratulating the guy. All that said, I'm still pulling for the guy and hope he turns out to be really successful for us.

It is. You are trying way too hard. I never said I would refrain from criticizing altogether. Also, I believe I mentioned I expect to fail repeatedly.

Considering what that guy posted and why, I'd say my response was quite subdued..certainly warranted.

It was a bad loss when it happened. It's still a bad loss today. It will be an infuriatingly bad loss at the end of the year.

I'm certainly hanging with him for now. This past Saturday showed me that without the suspensions and with a healthy team (especially at QB) we could have been an 8 to 9 win team even this year. I believe the suspensions and the Stevens injury has already cost us 1 win and will likely cost us another win or two. BUT, Moorhead is going to win with Schrader as his QB. It may take another year or so to win at a high level but GS is the best looking true freshman QB I have ever seen at MSU. Put that together with Moorhead doing well in recruiting to put more talent around Schrader and I believe its just a matter of time until JM puts together a really, really good team. And we have a lot of really good JUCO defensive players coming in for next year.

This forum is loaded with ex college players, ex coaches and current coaches obviously. It's a shame we cant get a couple of y'all to coach the team. We would be beating Bama, LSU and Auburn every year then ***

I agree that assistant salaries matter but when it comes to the NFL and Bama those two will win everytime no matter what the salary is. I have no idea about the assistant strength coach but do now the Piroli exit came very late in the process and summer workouts were just about to start. I have no idea how the strength and conditioning hiring process goes but would figure it would be hard to replace with someone from the outside who would bring in a new staff and try to get everything going with such a short turnaround, but thats just my opinion on the matter of why they hired from within.

I'm with you on this. As I get older, my drone goes higher.

Lettuce all "drone up" ........look around at the bubbling **** shows that surround us in the SEC.....and thank our lucky stripes we have someone that is even capable of competing in division games this year.

Shrader is a hillbilly buffalo beast.

I don't think beating AU is out of question. A&M....beatable......Win our favorable games + bowl... 7-8-9 wins......Who is complaining?
