Are our current problems due to a ****** coach or are they due to regional(other) limitations?

We were projected to be a strong team when Oklahoma State kicked the **** out of us. I really think a lot of you have gotten lofty expectations somehow and forget the realities. We still lose all our top recruits to LSU, Bama, Fla, Aub...etc. We are not a national product. We have 3 d1 teams in one of the least populous states. You same 17'rs that ***** about our current coach bitched about mullen, ***** about howland, bitched about stansbury, bitched about sherrill. I'm starting to think you're women because you love bitching.

The latest argument is "sloppy". There wasn't a single penalty until the 3rd qtr when we had a frosh qb at the helm. Sloppy.....

Failing to cover punts and giving your opponent great field position is sloppy play. Failing to tackle the guy running the kickoff back for a touchdown is sloppy play. Fumbling the ball away without being touched by an opposing player is sloppy play. Wasting the final 30 seconds of play with two running plays and no timeouts in a one-score game is sloppy play.

I think we all get the reality of competing for recruits in the SEC West, but (as Mullen showed us) a good coach can still produce winning seasons and decent bowl games in this environment.

Our current “problems” ain’t too bad. We’re a bowl regular & occasionally a top 15ish team.

If you honestly think those were called running plays then I don’t know what to tell you.

That was a freshman QB with happy feet trying to make a play.

Failing to cover punts and giving your opponent great field position is sloppy play. vs failed fake punt attempts

Failing to tackle the guy running the kickoff back for a touchdown is sloppy play. vs going through 6 guys that couldn't catch a fair catch

Fumbling the ball away without being touched by an opposing player is sloppy play. he was injured and trying to do too much (my weakest)

Wasting the final 30 seconds of play with two running plays and no timeouts in a one-score game is sloppy play. --- Freshman QB over his head dumbshit

Yep. He’s a true FR & when he’s confused, his instinct is to run. Much like another QB we’ve had recently. He’ll learn.

Coach gotta tell the kid to get rid of the ball in that situation. Sloppy.

Understood, but coach could have helped by calling two Hail Mary's before the kid took the field. Maybe with a planned rollout to give him some time to rare back and sling it.

ok, you just showed that you don't get football. Aaron Rodgers doesn't throw the Hail Mary till he gets to his 45. For us, it would have been their 45...we didn't get there.

Losing is one thing. Looking unprepared is my problem. Every offensive possesion against KState just felt off. I don't even know how to describe it. Like the whole offense is held together by duct tape and if the opponent pulls one strip off its all gonna fall to ****.

I was Mstating before Mstating was cool. Since '75 to be exact.

I take your point about the freshman being over his head and trying to make a play, but I stand behind my contention that the team was not ready to play. When a team isn't ready to play, it makes sloppy mistakes. And that reflects on the coach, every time.

I think that Mullen was the best coach that we will have in my lifetime. He wasn’t perfect, but he is/was twice the coach Moorhead is.

If you’re like me, you see the difference between the two. You hate to acknowledge it, and you keep looking for ways to prove yourself wrong. But if you call a spade a spade, you know that this isn’t going to work out.

I hope I’m wrong as hell on this.

Yet at halftime, people were calling the last pass and catch the greatest since Moulds. I still thought we were losing at that point tbh, not because of our offense but because our d is a sieve.

Two Hail Mary's from our own freaking GOAL line would have been more productive than what actually happened. When your only chance is a miracle, you have to give the miracle a chance.

"Sloppy" can and does mean so much more than penalties. I'm way more with Beerbully on this one. We have looked unprepared & sloppy in most games, and for sure in the K-State game. Looked like sloppy blocking on the O-line...more sloppy tackling by our defense until the 2nd half. Needing to call a timeout to avoid a penalty coming out of a timeout...sloppy. Poor ST blocking...sloppy. Players mouthing off at opposing players after the play....sloppy. Hitting their QB late on a play that extends their drive...sloppy.

Why would you associate "sloppy" only with penalties?

My honest opinion is neither. I just think that Joe may be a less than ideal fit for MSU.

Both MSU and OM have proven at one time or another that there’s talent in this state, and if you can plug some gaps one way or another with other recruits, it’s possible to be successful. It’s even possible to occasionally be in the mix for a division title.

At the same time, I don’t at all think that Joe is a terrible coach. I’m just not sure that he realized the type of player he’d be getting when he came here, and his “system” is just not catering to our talent. I’m still not even convinced that he’s getting as much out of Kylin as we could be getting in spite of his solid numbers this years.

Joe does not deserve to be compared to Croom, and any talk of firing him is crazy at this juncture, but I will say that I think the future with him is already in front of us. A good coach that is simply not a good fit for MSU

I do understand what your saying from just observing. I can’t describe it either. Is it just a lack of confidence in the offense that is manifested by almost a ‘timid’ look by some of the players themselves at times?. I keep waiting for something to click or for the them to ‘get it’ - since it’s a new offense.. etc. I don’t sense an identity and wonder if the team has a lack of identity and therefore can’t produce consistently because of it.
I continue to hold on to hope that things will change and improve quickly.

Of all the sloppy things we did this past Saturday, that one had to be the worst. Seriously, what 5th year SR in college runs with the ball held out in one hand like a loaf of bread? He was past the LOS so its not like he was still deciding between passing and running. He literally just kneed the ball out of his own hand for the fumble a gave KSU and bona fide gift turnover deep in our territory. That was so MState for a guy that has spent the majority of his career at PState.
