My thoughts on yesterday...

1. It was hot as balls.
2. The cups still smell like ***, and somebody should probably get fired over the improved metal detector process.
3. The pace of the offense was much better from game 1. Even when we had the true freshman in, I feel like we were much better with our offensive tempo. Did we even have a penalty called against us yesterday? Very clean game overall.
4. We are soft in the middle defensively. I still don't see a lot of complexity so I tend to believe we are only showing base stuff. Southern had their way on the ground early in the game but we adjusted to it. It was nice to see us pressure the QB a little. We miss Willie Gay big time.
5. Shrader is going to be a good QB for us.
6. Stevens is really good on the deep ball.
7. For the first time that I can remember, the pregame flyover was timed perfectly.
8. My heart sank when they were helping Kylin off the field. You know your RB is special when he can heal from a torn ACL at halftime.
9. I'm impressed with the quality of the underclassmen on the team. A lot of young guys made a lot of significant contributions.
10. Southern Miss is a better football team than ULL and we beat them pretty easily while staying base on defense and playing a lot of freshmen.

On to Kansas State. Long range forecasts tell me it will be 97 degrees. Can't wait.

Believe I remember a delay of game on Schrader. Would attribute that to first game acclimation. Other than that I cant disagree with your assessment particularly the mid defense softness. It's like a big hole on the field.

Don't forget Tucker Day. His performance so far has been exemplary.

He had a couple of good punts and he had one that he didn't hit well, but the USM receiver didn't play it well and it got a long roll.

But yes, Tucker Day deserves mention.

No to Usm being a better team than ULL. Defense yes but ULL would beat the Buzzards.

Middle of our Defense is not good. Worries the hell out of me right now. We are going very base these first two games like you said, but we should be getting more penetration and causing more disruption. I was hoping for a Cole blitz off the edge all game and we finally called one and we saw what happened. A big sack.

The DL overall was much better at getting pressure on the QB this week than last, and that might be because of Autry. He is a difference maker and he's going to cost us a game this year maybe two. I really like our secondary, but if there can't be consistent pressure up front, we'll get some passes caught on us.

CJ Morgan isn't impressing me either.

It's not just getting pressure on the QB, it's that we got bulldozed through the middle several times in the first two games. Look for Kansas State to try to run it down our throats.

For the record

Y'all should go watch Brian Cole postgame interview and hear what he said about J Jones and M Emerson.

One comforting thing about all these improved passing games in the conference is it won’t affect us. Teams won’t need to air it out because they will gash us in the run game. Silver lining I guess.***
