Received an email just a few moments ago about parking going up from $20 to now $30. Thoughts? I personally thought this would’ve been announced way ahead of the first game and not 3 days before hand.

For the poster bitching about fan loyalty the other day I give you exhibit "A". The schools have become so money grubbing and greedy that people are just flat being turned off. The gouging will continue until folks say "enough" !

I think they’re hoping this causes more people to park further out and ride the shuttles, thus helping with traffic. The shuttle lots on campus are only $10. You can also park downtown and ride the Main Street shuttle or the Game Day Shuttle for free.

Not sure what changed enough for them to go up to 30 on that with a 50% increase. The areas now at 10 used to be free a few years ago I thought. Guess it’s the price of being In the SEC. I do see all of this defaulting someday just not sure when. They went down on concession prices. Had to make it back somewhere. If only they could sell beer to make it back....

Nationwide attendance problem and schools wonder why. 30 dollars for parking is ridiculous

The interior campus lots went up to $30 and the ones off campus or on the edge of campus dropped to $10. No, I don't have a list of which is which. I know the goal is to get as many people as possible to park off campus and take shuttles into the game. I guess to help reduce traffic on campus after the game.

Probably my last year to buy season tickets. They are pricing me out as I am retired and just don’t have that kind of expendable income. I closed in my patio, mounted a TV, and added a deck. So grilling and watching via TV next year is going to be more fiscal and fun.

That's pretty bad, I think I only paid $175 for a season parking pass right by where we tailgate

Looks like people cannot afford 10 for parking.....but stadium beer tho.....

This really is an underrated and great point. I don’t get why everyone is so worked up about the prospects of getting to buy cheap beer for $12 at a football game. I can drink as much beer as I want before and after the game at the tailgate.

I may be there with you. Every year it seems that they charge more and more but provide less and less. I haven't been this apathetic about MSU football in 20 years.

Even if they start selling beer putting airplane bottles in your pockets and mixing a drink or 4 is the way to go economically. It’s really about the principle of it all at this point for me. I should be able to buy a beer if I want to at a sporting event. But anywho that topic has been beat to death so let’s not open up that can of worms again.

Same, I drink as much beer as anybody on here and I couldn't care any less about beer sales in the stands. I tank up before the game (yes I have the first 4 seats on my row for ease of pit stops) and then I have more when I get back to the tent. I have been known on a few occasions to knot the sleeves of my jacket and put a few beers down each one to smuggle into the stadium but I'm not going to pay champagne prices for warm Natty Light draft. They get my Bulldog Club donation, football season ticket $, football parking pass $, baseball season ticket $,baseball parking pass $, basketball season ticket $, regionals, bowls, etc but I draw the line at cheap warm Natty Light.

Pretty sure parking passes have gone up to $190. At least that's what I got charged for Lot 36, but over 7 games that still averages out to less than $30.

Alabama on-campus parking is $30 across the board, and none of their non-reserved lots are as walkable as our $30 non-reserved lots.

the point for me to post what I did was to point out that people ***** about a $10 bump on SOME lots (ignoring the $10 drop on the other lots) because they feel "squeeze"...while out of the other side of their mouth they are screaming "WE WANT BEER!!!!! NOW DAMNIT, NOT THE EIGHTBALL!" which will cost a person more than $10.

it's pretty clear they want to use one of the tools they have, paid parking lots to try and address the traffic situation which seems to be a thread on here at least for 1/2 of the home football games. you want to park close enough to walk? pay more. you want to take the shuttle? here's a discount.

The fact that our parking costs the same as the most successful program of the last 60 years, despite their smaller campus, isn't much of a defense.

i understand what they are trying to do.

the difference in beer sales is that people would be paying for a product they didn't have before. the 30 dollar parking is paying more for the same product at a 50% raise in the price. anybody would complain if something they were paying for suddenly went up 50% just because. nothing new with the product it went up by 50%. doesn't matter if another product decreased by 50%. The universities are just trying to find ways to make money anyway they can for whatever they can.

Not saying that you’re wrong, but that listing is from the ‘17/18 year. Now that we’re two years down the line, my bet is that some of those trends have started to turn

Exactly and that goes back to my point on "loyalty". The schools NOW want to treat fans strictly as profit centers to be exploited for all the money they can be shaken down for BUT in return want the "loyalty" that fans USED TO feel towards their dear old Alma Mater who was literally grateful for their attendance at the game. Money and greed has screwed up yet another part of our culture.

I still can't believe anyone would pay to sit in 100 degree weather to watch a football game.

Per the NCAA, SEC football paid attendance was down by 1,080 per game in 2018. Big 10 down 851, PAC-12 down 3,159. Big 12 and ACC slightly up at 134 & 378, respectively. I suspect this year's numbers will continue that trend.

It will be interesting to see what effect the tax law change has on athletic dept. contributions revenue. I'm sure TV money will stay strong for the foreseeable future though.

I can't believe there is someone who would read or post on a MSU football message board that can't believe some people will pay to sit in 100 degree weather to watch a MSU football game.

Yeah, valid point about the tax law. I can vouch for my group in by saying that the tax law change resulted in a 60% YoY drop in BC donations along with 6 less season tickets purchased. It was an absolutely killer for us, and I have to imagine that there are quite a few others in the same boat

About 20-25 years ago, we used to tailgate (IBBC) in what is now the Junction, Lot 14 I think at the time. It was maybe 100 yards from the south end zone ticket office. Parking was free.

I believe this is three fold.

1. The planned parking garage came in over budget.
2. They want you to park off campus and bus in. Exiting campus after the game is a cluster17.
3. In the grand scheme of things, $30 to park isn't that bad. I would charge double that. People will pay it.

Yeah and the overall atmosphere on game days was terrible and we looked like a junior college with everyone all over the place.

They definitely want you to park far away and ride transportation in. I gladly paid 30 bucks for the Bully Grass lot today. I've paid 20 at the ERC for years on years out there (now its 10). I'm just tired of the cluster 17 line for the ride getting back, and at 10 bucks that line may get longer. At least I control a bit of my destiny now as I'll walk to my parking spot in BG.
