Stolen from another board. What's your favorite MSU Week 1 memory? Least favorite?

My personal favorite is 2010, beating Memphis badly while learning at the same time that Ole Miss just lost to Jacksonville State. That was a fun night.

Most will say South Alabama for their least favorite, but mine is 2007 LSU. I will never forget the misery that was watching Mike Henig throw six interceptions and losing 45-0 on national TV. That was also the night that LSU fans trashed the inside of several buildings and ever since then we have locked down buildings on gameday. No more escaping the weather or taking a bathroom break in Dorman after that.

2008 opener was worst for me. I can’t remember who was suspended (I want to say Pegues) but I remember thinking I hope this doesn’t come back to bite us. I don’t think it was the main factor, but it damn sure couldn’t have hurt to have him.

Best i would probably go with 2014 throttling Southern’s ***** *** to show them they are an after thought in this state now

Kind of hard to beat the 2014 opener with the new stadium expansion and destroying Southern Mississippi after decades of no games.

I'd actually say 2008 was worse than 2016 just because everyone thought 2008 was going to build off of 2007 wheras everyone expected a step back from 2015 to 2016(though not THAT big)...

And yes I attended both of these. That rain pregame in Ruston was a sign I suppose.

2007 on that fateful Thursday night in the pouring rain. I’m pretty sure Zach Smith flinches every time he hears footsteps.

Mine has to be 2016 South Alabama.

While we can say Croom's Louisiana Tech loss was a fiasco, it wasn't entirely out of the blue. He did have a history of losing to Maine.

That South Alabama game was to start a season where we were somewhat optimistic, and we went out and **** the bed, and our fans sat in stifling heat watching the train wreck.

That game put me in the hospital, literally. For heart palpitations. Never been so mad at a game in my life.

My first thought was 2002, going to Oregon, thought we had a chance going into that game, Fant's tires, etc. But now that y'all bring up 2007 ... ugh, that certainly was bad.

2003. Oregon just torched Odell Bradley on another WR screen. Wasn't it 28-0 at the end of the 1st quarter?

Yep, I still remember ESPN cameras showing a mass exodus of our fans once they went up 28-0. We somehow came back and made that game interesting and only lost by a touchdown. That almost comeback gave me brief hope that it might not be THAT bad of a season, but then we lost to Tulane and Houston the next two weeks and that was the end of that.

Again, it was painful, but not completely out of the blue. That team was pretty terrible.

And I will never forget Toast Bradley. One of the most memorable players in MSU history....for all the wrong reasons.

I guess in some way the 1988 win over Louisiana Tech could be the best opening day. Changed "Oh and Eleven" to "Tech and Ten".

2008 @ La Tech was the first indication that the Croom Nightmare was about to end, so it was not so bad.
I drank the Kool-Aid after 2007 so 2008 was brutal, especially when you combine it with Ole Miss' rise under Snead and Alabama beginning the dynasty. We all knew Croom was terrible but most bought into the delusion because it just felt good to do so.

I don't remember anyone being optimistic. Mullen had tried HARD to get out of dodge that offseason, and had totally blown the recruiting class while Ole Miss signed a top 5 class. We had a QB controversy and the whole Simmons-gate that whole offseason. Not to mention all the players we lost after 2015.

Worst: getting bludgeoned by Tennessee in 1990.

Best: JWS cutting the balls of the UT bull-sh!tters in 1992. Big win over a quality opponent to open the season.

My actual answers have already been taken, but shout out to 2001 opening at home on Monday Night Football and beating the hell out of Memphis. No one had any idea we were about to drop 7 of our next 8.

2006: A little bit of optimism coming off of a dominant Egg Bowl victory, expecting the third year under Croom to show improvement, etc... Shut out by an okay SCar team. We completed 8 passes.

If you go back and watch the game, you will see that we had some issues. That was a bad Memphis team and they smacked us around for three quarters before we pulled away. The final was 30-10 but they fell apart late.

I actually didn't remember that at all. We apparently scored 30 points in 13 minutes in the second half. I guess that colored my memory.

I have to go with the Home opener rather than a season as a great memory. 1994 win over Tenn 24-21 showed JWS was really changing things.

2008 was the worst opener I did not attend. Just a sick, sick feeling in my stomach.

Worst I did attend were:

1988 comeback win over La Tech and knowing that Tech and 10 was coming.

1997 - I am pretty sure this was the year. 13-10 win but we all damned near went down from heatstroke. I had to take the Mother-in-law and kids home early

2003 - Oregon 42 - MSU 34

2006 - USCe 15 - MSU 0. I think I quit after that game until Croom was gone.
