Defending Texas A & M and Kellen Mond

Texas State was not much of a test, but Mond threw some really pretty passes and his receivers had no problem hauling them in. Like Tua, it looks like the only way to defend him is maximum pressure. We will get a much better idea of what A&M is from the Clemson, Auburn, and Alabama games before we have to play them, but I hope we can still pressure QBs this year almost as well as we did last year. I did not believe in Mond last year, but he is starting to make me a believer this year.

I saw a Texas A&M team that struggled to get first downs against Texas State. I do think that they will play Clemson close, but not looking for much from aTm this year.

They also looked to struggle getting movement on the offensive line. Not many teams are very good that can't run the ball. Also the back they have this year is not nearly as good as Williams from last year.

they have a freshman right guard. He is going to get abused in SEC play.

They did last year and it didnt have a bearing on our game.

That was at A&M and they were still working the QB situation out. I will be a little more worried this year if they play CLemson close @ CLemson and with Lawrence having a year under his belt.

A&M is a good team with a brutal schedule. They may be a Top 15 team and still lose 4 or 5 games. Have to play Clemson, Georgia, and LSU all on the road, plus Alabama at home.

Only because Fitz was our QB and had a good running 4th quarter. We were down 1t the half 10-7.

We still won the game fairly easily and Stevens has a similar skill set.

I don't get the A&M love. I expect us to beat them aGAIN.

I hope your right, but we have not seen Stevens take a snap and no way he runs like Fitz did.
Fitz was really special for a running QB.

Fans show their true stupidity when they fail to give Fitzgerald his due for the true force he was.

They will soon find out about that. I hope the upgrade in wide receivers can help offset the production.

Or maybe this year we will finally get to see what Kylie Hill can really do and we want be as dependents on the QB run as our only running game. I would rather see skyline do his thing and Stevens get 750 yards than a QB rush for 1000 and the RBs barely get touches.

I think it's both.
Fitz still could have had great numbers. He just kept it too much or made the wrong reads.
There is no reason he and Hill both could have had great years running the ball last year.

I'm not discounting Fitz and his running ability. And no, I haven't seen Stevens take a snap for Mississippi State. But he is the identical size that Fitz is, has demonstrated against Big 10 defenses that he is a physical runner, and he is actually faster in the 40 than Fitz was. Plus, he can throw it better, which will make him even more of an effective runner because defenses won't be able to load the box on him like they did against Fitz.

I think you will see a lot of long QB runs this year because the passing threat will open up the field.

I think offensive production will be significantly better just because it will be more efficient and there will be more options. I hope I'm not wrong.

I think a bigger factor than passing ability will be TS' 3+ years of exposure/learning Joe's system, making him more likely to make the correct reads almost instinctively, rather than taking that extra second Fit needed to "figure it out". I firmly believe we struggled last year much more from the "reading" than we did the actual passing. It seemed to me even on plays Fitz ran, he was often just a tad longer taking off due to having to think about the pass reads, and vs elite defenses that split-second was often the difference between a tackle for loss or no gain and a 4 or more yard gain.
