I’ve been perplexed by the current and quarterback situation. After naming Stevens the starter and KT’s intent to transfer, there has been no discussion of Mayden. It’s all about the true freshman. According to practice reports I read, Mayden was showing out throwing the ball and seem to be much more consistent, other than Stevens. Why doesn’t he get any consideration to be the back up or starter next year? I will hang up and listen.

Maybe he’s not as good as Schrader? Or maybe he’s suspended for 70% of the season? Or maybe Jomo is a racist? Ole Miss trolls have been pushing that narrative lately. I’ll let you decide.

It’s sad if they can say these things with a straight face. They’re not exactly a fan base I’d think is capable of identifying real racist matters.

Listen to Ole Miss fans and you’d think our locker room was splitting at the seams, and JoMo is dealing with a full blown mutiny for not giving the job to KT.

Meanwhile, Rich Rod and MacIntyre are going to turn their roster into an 8-4 team, despite the fact that Matt Luke is a cool 4-12 in SEC games- and this will be his least talented and most inexperienced team to date.

That’s why I ask such questions, because I also know nothing. I should have known better than ask fellow Dogs, a player depth question. I just need to find a Rebs board to assist.

Not to hijack but speaking of QB's...Nick Tiano with UT Chatt on ESPN3..wonder how he would fit in Moorhead offense

I have confidence that our coaches are on top of our QB situation. I'm sure they have a plan for Mayden and all our other QBs.

Just let it play out, and let's see what happens.

Gonna be hard to be the back up when you’re suspended 8 games imho. But that’s jmho.

My guess is that he is suspended also. And I agree that we should trust what the coaches are doing, esp since they have watched them all play and know who is suspended and who is not. With the portal you are rarely gonna be able to keep 2 or 3 starter quality QBs on your roster. These coaches are gonna play the best players they can find. Winning is all they wanna do so they can get raises or better jobs. We have a clear starter this year and we have an heir apparent. The rest of the QBs can accept that or hit the portal.

I was pretty excited about Tiano when we signed him. Same with Mayden. Both surefire QBs I expected.

If Stevens doesn't get hurt and all we need a backup to do is for mop duty, play Logan Burnett some. Of course Shrader can play in 4 games w/o burning his rs and Mayden will be available for 4 so we should be able to get by. That is of course Stevens staying healthy.

Mayden will be available for 4 games, but lets get real here. If a player is suspended for 2/3 of the season, their *** isn’t gonna be getting the practice reps they need to get better during the other 8 game weeks. Nor should they. The guys that will actually be on the field need the reps. I wouldn’t be surprised if Logan Burnett is outsnapping Mayden in practice until the suspension is up. By that time, Schrader will have long since passed him, most likely.

Again....I'm only talking about mop of duty and a way to save Schrader's rs year. If Stevens gets hurt and Schrader is indeed getting most of the reps....then the rs year will have to be burned.

What do you mean “if” Schrader is getting most of the reps? It’s 100% guaranteed that Schrader is getting most of the reps. He’s the only scholarship back-up QB who isn’t suspended. He will get any mop-up duty for the first 4 opportunities that present themselves (at minimum), and an overwhelming majority of the back-up practice reps. By the time Mayden is off suspension, Schrader will have way more practice reps and game reps than Mayden, and will be the first man up in any scenario.

Btw....whoever it was that commented about KT going to A&M to beat out Mond might wanna watch the amazing touch he has had in this game

Didn't see the game, but did notice Mond's QBR for the game was lower than all 3 of KT's starts at MSU.

And, again...to clarify, I mentioned aTm as a place KT might have a chance to earn the starting position because:

1. Mond has had one bad year & one good year. I clearly said it could boil down to whether last year was a fluke for Mond or part of his growth and/or development under the new coaching staff.
2. KT & Mond are part of the same recruiting class. KT was the higher-rated of the two.
3. After sitting out a year, KT would still have 2 years left, while Mond, if he stays for his senior season, has just one more. So, even if Mond stays the starter next year, KT would still have 2 years of eligibility to start, unless one year was burned by aTm.
4. KT is criticized for his lack of passing ability, yet as a high-school senior he threw for over 3,800 yards, 46 TD's, 7 INT's with a 60% completion %. While he was at it, he rushed for another 1,434 yards and 26 TD's.
5. For his HS career he threw for 7,642 yds and 94 TD's, as well as rushed for 4,634 yds and 58 TD's

Granted, that was high school competition, but a kid does not reach numbers like that in high school if he can't throw the ball worth a damn. So we seem to be judging this kid on how he did in the 3 games he played...in particular the one game under Moorhead...out first game ever in Joe's system. I never said KT was better than TS. I just stuck up for the kid vs those who either attacked his supposed lack of ability, or claimed he would have no shot at a P5, or places like aTm or LSU.

I've tried to point out the 3 games we have on KT were all tough situations the kid was thrown into, with only 2 that had him getting any starter reps prior to the game, vs Louisville in a game in which our coaching staff had already departed for Florida, and the aforementioned first game in Joe's system, where despite averaging 10.9 yds per carry, Joe had him throw the ball 31 times, and run just 10. You don't think Joe had made his mind up prior to the game that we were gonna force passes no matter what?

Care to look at how so many other QB's who turned out to be really good, had poor performances at first?

My main point was, and continues to be that some here have been too quick to discount KT's potential, especially given we really have no clue how the young man might do if given more of a chance to be coached up another year. I'm fine with TS being named the starter because I trust our staff to have evaluated both QB's in practices and camps. I'm very hopeful TS will prove not to be a, "practice warrior", but I also hate that KT is looking to transfer. I'd feel a lot better about the next couple of years if KT stayed to see how much better he could get with another year in Joe's system.

I also don't buy into what many here claim, that Joe showed he had no faith in KT because he didn't put KT in last year for any minutes or when Fit was struggling. I think it more likely Joe decided Fitz needed every snap he could get because he had missed all those pre-season snaps due to his injury, so was never really going to get near enough as it was. All the way up to the last game, Fitz never really looked comfortable against any good defense, so I lean toward believing Joe was just hoping Fitz would eventually get comfortable enough as he got more and more snaps.

This is just my opinion. I don't disrespect other's opinions unless they get nasty, misquote or use my comments out of context. I also don't consider my opinion to be more valuable than others, though I do try to back mine up with facts and relevant stats, so appreciate differing opinions when they, too are backed by the same, and reason, rather than pure emotion or a desire to just be an *******. Not saying you're being one, but there are plenty here who have been.

So burn his rs year even if it's just mop up duty. That makes no sense if you have 2 other guys that can run out the clock.

If he’s going to be the starter next year, burning his RS and getting meaningful snaps in as many games as possible is the correct course of action imo.

If he’s better than both of the other guys right now, he will be the one who runs out the clock or comes into an actual real game scenario, because he will have earned it. We go up big on ULL tomorrow, Shrader is the one who needs to go in and run the actual offense (not the clock killing offense), because he’s the one we will be relying on if anything happens to Stevens, and the only way he can be truly game ready is to play. The best players play, and he is #2 on the depth chart.

And besides, when we know going in that Mayden will be out of the picture for the 8 games of our choosing, why would we not choose the first 4 games to be half of that suspension, since those are definitely all in the Top 8 of the easiest opponents? Therefore Shrader is the bona fide back up for those 4 games, and will definitely come in for parts of some of them. As stated previously, KT leaving and the combination of the Mayden suspension and Shrader being better anyway completely took away the chance to RS him. It is what it is.

Mond had a 160 quarterback rating Thursday night
I'm going off what ESPN says, which is 92.
https://www.espn.com/college-football/boxscore?gameId=401110731

160 seems off to me, given he has an INT to go along with the 3 TD's. But ESPN could certainly be the one that is wrong. Either way, I don't think one game vs Texas State is something on which to "hang your hat". Mond may well prove to be really good, continuing on his progress from last year. But I think you'll agree Texas State isn't much of a measuring stick, is it?

ETA - Texas State is a really bad football team with a really bad defense, unless they prove to be vastly improved from last year, when they went 3-9, giving up 35 or more points in 6 games vs a Sunbelt schedule.

Sure. Didn't have the 2 minutes it takes to read the post, but had the time to waste that it took to actually reply. So, you cared enough about the thread to actually get into it, and felt your time was too valuable to bother reading the post, but then took perhaps a minutes less time actually responding to the post that was too long to read.

Got it.

He looked really good to me. Like better than any quarterback we have ever had. KT was an incredible high school quarterback. I'm not sure what the issue is with him but Jomo and Briener apparently are not at all impressed with his play. He couldnt unseat Fitz last year. Maybe they don't know what good quarterback play looks like tho ?? I guess we can wait and see what he does at the next school, tho I haven't heard of any interest in him so far but I'm sure several large programs are soon to be knocking on his door.
