Anyone think Kylin Hill will take the next step this year and be elite?

If he does it won’t be on his own like Norwood had to do. It will be a function of the offense working the way it should. And that is not to say the kid isn’t nfl material. He certainly can be. But he can be overshadowed if the offense doesn’t distribute the ball properly.

Kylin will make his biggest strides toward elite by catching a he ball out of the backfield and beating linebackers trying to cover. That’s one of the ways S Barkley made so many big plays. But Barkley was elite in almost every way.

You see him repping like 525lbs on squat? He’s already elite, the question is will he get the carries.

He lacks that top end speed to be elite, but makes up for it with quickness, power, vision and hands. Everyone is fast in the NFL, but have to be able to run away from the LBs who are all Willie Gay fast.

Meh. Most RBs in the NFL run in the 4.5-4.6 range in the 40

I think Hill ran 4.64 in HS, I’d be willing to be he’s in the 4.5 range now. He’s got more than enough speed. He’s not Norwood or anything, but good enough.

I think he was hurt last year, but 2nd half of the season he couldn't outrun SEC D's. I think it was the Bama game where he looked slow. Hamstring injury maybe?

I dunno what he ran in HS but a 4.64 is a big differ from a 4.5 flat.

I always chuckle when I see these statements. You cannot blink you eyes twice in .14 of a second.

How many 40 yard dashes are timed with full football gear on, including ankles taped?

Unless you are completely in the open field, the difference between 4.5 and 4.6 is absolutely useless and I posit that a guy running 4.9 with the angle can cut off the guy running 4.5.

Poor Jerry Rice. He must have been awful since he ran a 4.65 40 time.****

Being in the open field is how you run away from people, and a guy who runs a 4.64 is not going to outrun a guy who runs a 4.5 flat and especially a CB or S who runs a 4.4 to 4.45.

If there's a massive head start, of course the 4.64 is more than enough speed to get to the end zone, but that's rare. Most of the time you're breaking into the second level, make a guy (LB) miss and then you try and beat the safeties to the end zone, which are the fastest guys on the field. That .14 makes a big difference especially if you just need to grab and ankle or force someone out of bounds.

I don't know why you use Jerry Rice as an example. Obviously he ran away from a lot of people. Kylin hill has not.

He was the 3rd best RB in the SEC last year according to PFF. That’s elite.

Top speed matters at RB but explosion and how fast you get to top speed matters much, much more.

Hill has the potential to be as good as any of those guys. Our offense sucked last yr. Then we scrambled the 2nd half if the season to squeak out some wins and forgot to include our biggest offensive weapon. None of that is hills fault. Put him on clemson's team and he wins the Heisman

Yep. Fitz kept the ball way too many times and we never really tried to get Hill going in the running game or passing game. This was on Coach Joe and Fitz.

You can't use confirmation bias and say just because you're ranked 3rd RB in the SEC that means your elite.

He has quick acceleration, but he's not a home run hitter. I think Hill could be elite this year. He may have last year, but he didn't get enough carries. I just think his top end speed is going to drop him from that elite category into the 2nd group, which for a RB means 4th or 5th round pick. He did have an injured hamstring last year I believe and that could be impacting my thinking about him being elite if his speed was down bc of an injury. If all that sounds convoluted, it is because we're kinda splitting hairs.

Looking at SEC RBs last year, I'd rank them talent wise:
D.Andre Swift (elite)
Josh Jacobs (1st rd pick; not enough sample size to say elite, but very good if not elite)
Kylin Hill
Trayveon Williams (6th rd pick)
Benny Snell (4th rd pick)
Damien Harris (3rd rd pick)
Scottie Phillips

Everyone raves about Vaughn from Vandy, but I haven't seen him play enough. Bottom line is there's not a lot of elite RBs in the SEC last year IMO.

Agree to disagree then. I guess it depends on each individuals definition of “elite”.

Etienne, Swift, and Taylor are elite. Hill is a good RB, but not elite

This is wrong. Go back and look at the replay of our games, Hill has all the measurables to be elite, but to be elite you have to feed the beast. Give him 20-25 carries a game and you will definitely see it on the field. Reminds me of Dixon with a little bit of Robinson in the mix.

I be good with consistently good. He is really talented but we have seen flashes. Some of that wasn't his fault he dudnt get ball enough. Injuries hurt too. But he only had 3 games over 100 yards. He was nonexistent in some games. If he can be consistently good and possibly great. I'll take that. The talents certainly there.

You think hill is better than one of those 3?

We're not far off man. Elite to me means the total package and his lacking one tool. He's a 4 tool player,** but if he's completely injury free this year, maybe we'll see him faster.

He's an NFL RB for sure and a top RB in the SEC this year.

I'd rate SEC RBs for 2019:
1) D. Swift, UGA
2) Kylin Hill, MSU
3) J. Whitlow, Aub
4) K. Vaughan, Vandy
5) Scottie Phillips, OM
