No Alumni Association tailgate in the Junction this year

If you were a fan of the bbq setup the alumni association had set up for many years in the Junction just across from the stadium, it's not happening this year. Looks like instead, they're doing something at the spaceship (NOT near the stadium) and will be charging $20 for adults and $15 for age 7-20 to come in and eat.

I don't know about yall, but I'm not driving to Starkville so I can go out of my way to the Hunter Henry Center to pay to eat.

More room for blue tents in the junction now***

I haven’t been to the alumni tent in years so I don’t know how popular it has been the last few seasons, but I can’t imagine moving it away from The Junction and charging 20 bucks for it will make it more popular.

I suppose they're making the move due to logistics, easier to base out of the Hunter Henry than to transport everything to the Junction? I've never done the Alumni tailgate for home games. Does it stay busy?

Yep, something tells me that if its going to $20 a plate for what used to be free and in a much better location, you will not have any issue with lines if you want to go over there.

I appreciate the change. Of course, the Alumni tent wasn't an integral part of our gameday plans for food, so it might be rough for some.

I never visited the Alumni tent so it's a moot point for me. I do park much closer to Hunter Henry so I might actually stop by now just to check it out.

$20 bucks a plate for a pork sandwich, beans, chips and a cookie? That will definitely thin it a LOT.

Being at the hunter henry center is probably fine, but charging $20 a plate seems like missing an opportunity at this point. We need to be making it easier and more enjoyable for people to come to the game and tailgate. Having a $15 option to stop in and grab some bbq seems like a good thing. Alumni association makes a little bit of money and people that don't do a tailgate setup have a reasonably priced option to hangout with food. I mean, they're not obligated to do anything and $20 a head to get seating and air conditioning might not seem like a bad price for a lot of the games, especially compared to the cost and hassle of tailgating yourself. But still seems like a missed opportunity to make the gameday experience more enjoyable and reasonably priced.

ETA: with beer and wine included, that's not really over priced, and if you get a discount for being a member, it probably ends up being a good/great deal depending on whether you like the beer or wine offered.

Looks like that $20 ticket includes beer and wine. You can also receive a discount if you're an active Alumni Association member. According to Google Earth, it's about 350 yards from the stadium (5 minute walk).

If true then the $20 makes more sense. Surprised the Alumni Association would get into the business of providing alcohol on campus though.

I only make it down to one or two games a year (usually one) at most and don't have the wherewithal to set up a big tailgate, so I ate there almost every game I went to. However, $20 is a little steep to say the least, not to mention the walk to get there. Guess I'll probably going to the cafeteria more often . . . . . . or waiting until the stadium gates open.

Are you saying that you previously drove to Starkville on Saturdays... so that you could eat at the Alumni tent?

The distance from the Alumni Center and Davis Wade shouldn't really be a major factor in reference to the cafeteria.

The Alumni Tent was very busy, it was usually packed and often ran out of food, I rarely ate there but walked by it every game.

I’ve eaten there a couple of times over the years but walked by it every game.
It will open up some space for the blue tents for sure like someone else said.

Funny you mention that, the Hunter Henry is the only place on campus that can be advertised as alcohol accessible.
