Yup, thought about making a thread but didn’t want to post any spoilers. I watched 6 episodes, I’ve enjoyed them.
I think they were. And the kids from Independence seemed to believe they were all headed to Div 1 and the NFL. I guess simply due to TV. The people in Independence don’t care as much about football as scooba.
That’s not due to tv. That’s what kids playing JUCO and D-1 football everywhere think. A lot of parents too.

Is Jason Brown really that much of a scumbag in person? Part of it has GOT to be a put on for the cameras, right? It started out last year as what seemed like a desperate yearning for "street cred", and then seemed to just morph into a situation where he just gonna make sure he says and does the most outrageous **** regardless of the consequences.
The popularity of that series gave Brown and a number of those kids an inflated sense of their potential. My nephew played for EMCC the last two seasons. Sure, they all have aspirations, but Indy just didn’t have what Buddy had in scooba and it showed. The difference in the coaching staffs is what stood out to me.
Scooba was a last chance. Indy wasn’t much of anything.

Now I assume most are getting Pell grants or the equivalent, but can you imagine being one of 200 in the middle of Nowhere, Kansas as part of a two-year football program? I was amazed he has that many guys there for that. There's no way the vast majority of them will ever see the field. I'd assume he can reach that number due to the popularity of Last Chance U. I can't imagine Itawamba Community College or the like being able to retain that many for any other reason.

If Wikipedia is to be trusted, that means 12.5 percent of the students are on the team (1600 enrollment).

Yes, that was the context of the statement: That Independence CC isn't doing very well attracting local high school grads to attend as students for the sake of school - show said they're losing students they'd normally attract to small 4-year schools - and the student athletes brought in by the football program are integral to the school's bottom line - their tuition dollars are critical to keeping the lights on and the doors open.
They're in the obvious situation of being in a small pond with another fish. Coffeyville CC, as I mentioned before, is located in the same county as Independence. I'm shocked that 1: two jucos have been operating in one county for more than 90 years; and 2. that they've not merged.
The roster number is a curious deal. I pulled up Itawamba Community College's (Fulton, Miss.) 2018 roster and they have 46 guys. I did the same with East Mississippi CC's roster and they have 55. I'd think those two totals are probably about average.
It's a two-year program in every case - how many guys could you legitimately expect to coach up and improve in two seasons, let alone play?

On the show, Coach Brown is asked by a guy how many players he has, and the guy asking guesses 150 - Brown says it's more like 200. I have no doubt there could very well be another hundred or more there associated with the program who haven't won a jersey. This makes it seem like he's running a racket.
I've enjoyed Last Chance U because it really spotlights a fact about CC football, which is it's as fast and violent as any brand of the game you'll find anywhere. There's virtually no real academic qualification required to go - In Mississippi you have to have graduated HS or gotten a GED, and you have to have taken the ACT. Just taken it, no certain score to make to enter - and there are hundreds of guys every year who miss out on D1 offers because of their grades. I've seen some unbelievably athletic play at the CC level.

I think someone had mentioned here previously that they wished that Last Chance U would have gone to Coahoma. Well, they didn't but the documentary has gone to a college with its own set of issues.

All four seasons...that **** just sucks me in instantly. It's like watching a slow motion train wreck. I'm though 4 episodes of this season. Without spoiling anything, it's particularly compelling this time around because of the way the Indy's season is progressing. I love that two major characters from the first Independence season are back.

The producer said on Twitter there is a possibility for Season 5, but he wouldn’t say what school. I really enjoy this show, and I hope it doesn’t end anytime soon. I hope they come back to a school in MS.
There’s no way Netflix doesn’t make another season, that’d be a huge mistake by them. With Disney pulling out, they’re content is gonna struggle. LCU is one of their biggest success as a service.
They’re already losing hundreds of thousands of subscriptions. First time since their conception.
Also, I’d like for them to go back to EMCC. They’ve won the past two juco championships I believe.
I wouldn't be surprised if the show goes to one of the California community colleges if only because the CCCAA (that's the California Community College Athletic Association) doesn't provide athletics scholarships-- which means that there are a different set of challenges to explore.
Edit to add: Another possibility is Snow College in Utah which is independent this upcoming season because all the Arizona CCs that had been in their conference are no longer playing football.

They did. But I’d be surprised if Buddy would agree unless he was given an offer he couldn’t refuse or the school was. But how could they top what they’ve done?
The show thrives on the hapless backstories of the players and a coach. If the head coach isn’t a loose cannon, it just won’t measure up. Who’s gonna be more marketable than Buddy now straight outta MFin Compton is headed to LA county jail?
I’d spend the next year finding another coach/Jc situation before I pulled the trigger on an uninteresting season.
Buddy was upset they left in the first place, I read an article where he was kind of campaigning for it a while back. I dunno how he feels now.
Jason Brown definitely upped the ante. But from my perspective, I just like seeing what goes on in football programs and you can find interesting characters in most teams... especially one of the best in the country.
I feel like that’s why the vast majority watch it, it’s around the time we start to crave football and LCU gives us a neat perspective.
I love watching both programs, even if a lot of it is coaches and players hamming it up for the cameras.
When the LB got the concussion on the kick return, chills went down my spine. I've heard that sound before coming from a player (a long time ago) and it never is easy to get used to hearing. There were a few of those hits this season and the crew did a good job showing what a "collision" sport football really is.

I doubt EMCC wants them back. Hell they're 23-1 with two national championships since they left. The thing that amazes me the most is the talent gap. Compare the first two seasons to the last two and EMCC's athletes are bigger, faster, and stronger than anything ICC had.
I do wish they'd come back to Mississippi though. I might be a bit biased, but I think we've got the best JUCO talent in the country.

That’s not being biased. That’s the truth. First of all, not many states have JUCO football. Second of all, compared to the states that do, we blow them out of the water when it comes to talent. According to 247 rankings 7 of the top 20 JUCO recruits play in MS. 6 of the last 10 JUCO national champions are from MS.

I remember the opposite but I may be wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time. I know he was still his same old self for the last two seasons. The players weren’t as colorful. Brittany leaving and Marcus changing positions sure took some dramatic air out of the balloon.
It’s clearly stated in the article he wanted them to come back.
But who knows if he still does. It’s my opinion that he would welcome them back but I have no inside info, just my opinion.
I also really liked Davern and Trickett.
Any semi-big names there now?
Kansas jucos get more than you’d think— largely because there are only so many athletics scholarships that can be dedicated to out-of-state students by Mississippi CCs and more importantly Kansas doesn’t have any out-of-state limitations.
